BON JOVI to join R&R HOF - JUDAS PRIEST fails to make the cut

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame has officially announced next year's inductees: BON JOVI, DIRE STRAITS, THE MOODY BLUES, THE CARS and Nina Simone will all join the class of 2018. Sister Rosetta Tharpe will be given an Early Influence award.
Passed over were British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST, who have been eligible since 1999 but were only nominated for the first time this year.
The 33rd annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will be held at Cleveland's Public Hall on April 14, 2018. An edited version will air later on HBO and there will be a radio broadcast on SiriusXM. Ticket details will be announced in the near future.
"It's a Christmas miracle," BON JOVI keyboardist David Bryan told Rolling Stone on Wednesday. "[We were] guys living the dream, getting on a bus with no guarantees in any way shape or form or anything. It was, 'Let's go out and make this happen.' And we actually did."
The induction ceremony this year will feature a BON JOVI reunion: guitarist Richie Sambora left the group in 2013 under less-than-amicable circumstances. Jon Bon Jovi later told "Today" that he had moved on, though he insisted that he still had a special place in his heart for his former bandmate.
Drummer Tico Torres told Rolling Stone that Sambora and original bassist Alec John Such "are a huge part of us. We'd love it if they played with us." David Bryan agreed. "The idea is that it's a celebration of what we were and what we are," he said. "You'll see the current lineup and then see the original. It should be a fun night."
Ballots were sent to a voting group of more than 1,000 artists, historians and music-industry professionals.
The public was invited to participate again this year in the fan vote, which drummed up record numbers with more than 6.8 million votes cast. (Of those, 1.1 million were for BON JOVI.) The top five artists made up a fan's ballot, which counted as a single vote.
"Clearly the enthusiasm of the fans was mirrored by the larger body (of Rock Hall voters)," said Greg Harris, CEO of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame And Museum. Overall, "this is a really fantastic group because they span from the 1950s all the way up until today."
Rock Hall rules state that artists become eligible 25 years after their first records were released, but the Hall also claims that other "criteria include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock 'n' roll," which is, of course, open to interpretation.
Despite being eligible for induction since 1999 — 25 years after the release of its first disc — KISS didn't get its first nomination until 2009, and was finally inducted in 2014.
DEEP PURPLE was eligible for the Rock Hall since 1993 but didn't get inducted until last year.

The funny thing is that Bon Jovi always complained that the RR HOF was just a political thing with Jann Wenner from Rolling Stone. They said some not so kind things about Jann in the past and the whole process. Wonder what changed.

It is political and the fact it's on HBO makes it worse.

You need to create the edjr Hall of Fame, since none of the current ones are working for you. You could have different categories like for the best HOF's.

It's about focking time Dire Straits made it in.

While I was familiar with a few of their songs it was this song and video from 1980 that made me a huge fan.The entire album Making Movies is   and is worthy of HOF recognition on it's own.

The fact that Dire Straights wasn't in the HOF actually makes me think edjr has a point about it being a total joke.

A lot of folks would say the same thing about the Cars.

Ed is right, the rock and roll hall of fame is a focking joke. Worse than Ozzie Smith on the first ballot MLB hall of fame.

Seriously. What may be even worse is that NO ONE gets in with 100% EVER! Who didn't focking vote for Hank Aaron, Ted Williams, Ty cobb, Willie Mays...etc on the first ballot.

Judas Priest is far more worthy of the honor than Jon Bovi IMO.

This gives the HOF a Bad Name

Nice. :D

although, not true.

The R &R HOF was made for Bon Jovi.

Sure they were a hair band, but they were the only band to make it out of that era, still making albums, still selling out stadiums, even without their best band mate, Richie Sambora

You may not like them, and that's fine. They are R&R material if there ever were.

You should enjoy this, Ozzie Smith is front and center of... The Dumbest Baseball Movie Ending Of All Time

At the end of The Scout, Steve Nebraska (after much drama) leads the New York Yankees to the World Series. In this particular fictional World Series, the Yankees are playing the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, we’re down to the final out of Game 7 and, stepping up to the plate, is ... Ozzie Smith.

Ozzie Smith is one of my favorite baseball players of all time. Ozzie Smith was a pretty okay hitter, but is considered to be the greatest defensive shortstop of all time, which is why Ozzie Smith is in the Baseball Hall of Fame. We are told by Bob Costas’ voiceover (watching this scene again, you can actually hear the contempt in Costas’ delivery; I assume he used the same contempt when he endorsed his check from 20th Century Fox) that Ozzie Smith has been on a power surge as of late which means that we, as the audience, should be nervous because Ozzie Smith just might hit another home run. This is ludicrous.

I tried to find this clip online, but it's not available, it's pretty funny as they try to make it a big fierce pitcher/hitter dual...with Ozzie Smith!
