The "my team drafted a defender" thread

Recommended Posts

For all of us who don't get a FFT thread because no fantasy-relevant player, this is your thread.

DAL drafted Taco. I should probably be happy about this because the boys got a consensus top 20 guy at 28, but honestly I'd be more enthusiastic had we drafted a consensus 2nd round guy: Watt. I just keep clinging to that Justin Tuck comp, and hoping that we make a splashier...uhhh...splash on day 2.

What about you other offenseless (inoffensive?) fans?

49ers got two of the best defensive players in the draft. Hopefully Foster grows up, but this was a pretty good start for the new regime.

I like this pick, Taco Charlton. He seemed to be the guy I saw mocked to the Cowboys the most over the past several weeks leading up to the draft so I'm not surprised.

I had a hunch we would take a CB but that didn't happen. We could use a good pass rusher as much as anything so I'm happy with it.

Taco seems like a big, long, athletic, pass rusher who still has a lot of developing to do but has a huge upside. He has a great coach in Marinelli to help him reach his potential.

I've seen several Cowboys fans say they prefer Watt but I'm happy with who we got.

Just saw that the Steelers draft Watt, wow they really drafted a Defence steal.

And I agree about the Niners good start.

Raiders drafted a rapist :dunno:

Ha ha ha, you're a funny guy. Not that you're a clown and you amuse me, but that you make me laugh. What's more you embrace your title. The Raiders are the cleanest team in the league, with ZERO players in trouble the last three years. They have a well known stance against abuse on women, stemming from what happened to Freddie B's daughter. Mckenzie did his homework on this incident, and the kid will get cleared.

I might comment on Tyreek Hill, but as a Raider fan I could care less.

The optics of both drafting Conley and signing Zamora make it seem that their stance on taking a player that might have questionable off-field decision making has loosened...right?

As it pertains to the thread itself...

The Eagles got arguably the best corner in the draft (pre-combine) in Sidney Jones. I hope the plan is to exude patience with him. Derek Barnett looks like a solid pick. Not elite upside (IMO), but safer than Brandon Graham. There are certainly flaws in his game, but he seems like he's willing to put in the work to make himself better. He's also ridiculously young. He's the 3rd youngest player ever drafted by the Eagles. Coincidentally, Jones is the second.

I don't know much about Rasul Douglas other than some highlights on DraftBreakdown. His size stands out. 6'2 and 209 pounds, but so does his inexperience in FBS competition. He's a project, which makes Jalen Mills a whole lot more important in his second year. Some of the inabilities from this secondary could be masked by an improved pass rush, but I still expect the Eagles secondary to struggle frequently this season.

Who's optics? The Kobe Bryant case taught me many years ago that rape allegations aren't always cut and dried. Mckenzie and Mark Davis did their due diligence, the kid even passed a polygraph for one team (rumored to be Baltimore), I'm good with it.

As for Zamora, I have no idea but will trust the team's judgement. Not a lock for him to make the squad.

Not to ride this thread off it's rails...

But even the most ardent supporter of a team could perceive the bad look from taking a risk on one, or both. I'm willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt, however the PR campaign that flew immediately after he was drafted with the polygraph diatribe didn't fly with my in-laws who are all Raiders fans, and a couple of them that are season ticket holders. They love the upside on Conley, but they simply did not feel that the team had the ability to be 100% sure drafting him. For a team on the precipice of a Super Bowl run, they wanted a safer pick in the first round (Kevin King was a popular name at our draft experience).

My thing is: I'm not surprised the Raiders would expose themselves to the upside that each player brings...even if it results in a few pockets of fans being upset at the (perceived) morality issue with each player. This was a rumbling talking point surrounding the Raiders leading up the draft. They had the ability to take players that might have a ding or two on their off-field record and not alienate a fanbase that will be losing the team in two years anyways.

My league uses IDP, so every position matters. Not just offense.

Also, as a Browns homer, I'm quite disappointed. This draft was great for defense and they got Garrett and M Adams, but they could have done so much better.

Ok, if they wanted a TE, why not go OJ Howard at 12 and Melifonwu at 33? Ok, so the trade was important to them, so take Melifonwu at 25 and stay at 33 to draft Njoku. Another option, Foster at 25 and either the S or TE at 33. Nobody else was going to take Njoku, not even the Steelers. Peppers was a wasted pick, he was mediocre at the college level and is a pothead. That's a bad combination!!

The 1 was a no brainer. So, in actuality, this draft exposed the Browns brain trust as incompetent once again. It's not that the players they got are terrible or outrageously egregious reaches. They just weren't the best options available, not even close in the case of Peppers. Also, in the 2nd round, you can afford to take a project player if you're a good team like the Steelers, Pats, Cowboys, Broncos etc. The Browns are terrible! They need a playmaker from the 2nd round who can play this year. I think Kizer was a wasted pick, plus he or Kaaya could have been had in the next round. Obviously, I'm high on Melifonwu as I think he'll be an AMAZING FS in the NFL. I'd even be thrilled if they had taken him to pair with Peppers(SS) at 52. Nope! Not the Browns. They got Kizer probably because they felt that they "have to take a QB!" No, you have to take a player that can play!

49ers and the Skins robbed 4 great defensive players whilst everyone was stretching for offense. Couldn't be happier with the picks.

Skins had a dream draft of players falling. Biggest need was D line and two studs just fell while other teams were taking offense. Love it.

me too. depending on which big board one is looking at, DAL got 3 of the top 40, 60, or 70 prospects. not only that, but they got a steal in woods, and lewis insurance in white.

i hope it's not just rose-colored glasses, but the more i dig into taco info, the more optimistic i get about the pick. got better every year despite getting bounced around in scheme and position. not an elite athlete, but substantially better than average for the position. and he's still raw, which means a lot of room to grow. i suspect that if DAL had the exact same draft, except with awuzie in the 1st and taco in the 2nd, there would be far less criticism.

But that's not who the Raiders are anymore. They are the most trouble-free team in the NFL as I stated earlier no arrests or problems in the last three years. No other team can say such. They've been epically vocal in their speaking out against domestic violence against women. I just think this is a case where Reggie McKenzie and Mark Davis did their diligence and they came away satisfied. As a Raider fan I got to trust him

The Browns just signed CB Jason McCourty. Suddenly, their defense doesn't look like a complete dumpster fire. This was actually a great signing this late into the offseason!

Well, the pass rush will be a whole lot better with Garrett in there. Thats for sure.

and a good pass rush will cover up a whole lot of other deficiencies in a defense. (especialy at CB and Safety if the QB has on avg 1 second less to hold onto the ball)
