You know what's really focked up? I pretty much quit drinking at 18yrs old, and bunny has a healthier liver than I do.

I don't think so. I'm to scared to go and get the tests you had done. Wouldn't. be suprised if I'm right there with you.

Currently turning yellow from jaundice... Look way too much like a Simpsons character. Lost 39lbs, or I'd have had to say Homer.

This is really terrible news. I can’t really express it well but it’s given me a shiver down my spine. I always have a fear of these kinds of things, or doctors giving me bad news, I’m not sure what it is. But this has me feeling really uneasy. Don’t care if it’s just a person on a forum, I’m living vicariously and it’s washing over me like it’s someone I know outside of the internet. Like I’m trying to imagine the fear and feelings one must go through when they get the news. Really scares the hell out of me. Not gonna say I’m sorry cuz that amounts to a hill of beans and you are last that. I Just pray you get some good news coming up here. Damn.

How did it start? When did you know something was wrong?

Stomach ache the day after Fathers Day. Went front 5-6 bowel movements a week to 4-5 a day. Nothing really serious until the start of September. Pain got worse, got difficult to urinate or have a bowel movement. Made a doctor's appointment then. Ended up in the hospital the Saturday before my appointment, after shitting blood for about 2.5hrs at work. Tests, tests, more tests, had colon cancer. More tests, more tests, turns out it's stage 4 colon, liver, and lung cancer. See an Oncologist Monday, hopefully get more answers then.

The bowel movement you talk of is happening to me.Havent laid a nice log in months. No blood yet. All violent splatters recently. Pasting the porcelain.

Good luck my friend. If I see you at the pearly gates, I'll tell you an ass story that doesn't involve French kissing the balloon knot.

Nobody will believe me. Butt you.

Get checked, man. It's worth it. There's way too many things that can go wrong.

Update #3

Saw the oncologist, Indian doctor that speaks very good English. Seems like a good man. Surgery this week to install a port, possible stint for the liver, them start chemo next week. Chemo for 3-6 months, then more tests. Will refer me to the right people for medical marijuana card and medical disability. Having real problems with my current painkiller, Tramadol, so he's recommending Motrin.

Still not making any long term plans. Current weight loss: 45lbs since the start of September.

What Drob said. Your mention of a port made me literally shiver. Had a few "drains" installed, as well as a thing called a PICC line, when I was in the hospital. I hate blood and all things that poke at the body so any of these makes me go uck. Best of luck man.

Be careful about taking too much Motrin, as it promotes bleeding (among other things). If your pain is severe, you should be offered narcotics. Now I know all about how opioids are overprescribed, the epidemic of addiction, etc., but cancer pain is still a very legitimate reason for strong pain meds. In the old days docs were overly reluctant to prescribe them, then a campaign to manage pain as the "fifth vital sign" promoted their overuse, and now the pendulum is swinging back the other other way. Of course, there are potential side effects to manage if you get placed on stronger pain meds. Med MJ is +/- for pain management.

Not sure what you mean about long term plans, but you really need to make an advance directive and designate a surrogate decision maker.

I'm going to go a little old skool Mephisto-like tough love here:

Are you a focking idiot? You have a daughter who needs you and you are too scared to get tested because they might find something you can treat now vs. later? Do you understand how stupid that sounds, and how irresponsible it is to your daughter? I thought you were a man. Apparently not.

Pssst...many alcoholics have mental illness they are self medicating, including anxiety. Avoiding problems is much easier than facing them.

Avoiding the moltrin until after the surgery, I bleed too much as it is. Currently on narcotics, still have every focking side effect from them, without much results vs. pain. No long term plans is as easy as it sounds.. not convinced I'll still be around 1-2yrs from now.

Yeah, I'd avoid Motrin as well. The thing about opioids is finding the correct dose - you keep upping the dose/frequency until you manage your pain or the side effects become unbearable. They all work basically the same way, with no one drug superior to the others if the dosing is correct. If your oncologist can't control your pain he should refer you to a pain specialist, who can perform local therapies like nerve blocks in addition to titrating narcotic and non-narcotic analgesics.

The 5-year survival rate for stage 4 colon cancer is ~11%, so the numbers aren't on your side. But every patient is an individual, and treatments are improving all the time. Nonetheless, you need to plan for the possibility that your health takes a turn for the worse and you can't make decisions for yourself. It's best to do this when you're capable of expressing your wishes about the aggressiveness of care, rather than leaving the decisions to someone else.

Update #4

Made it home late last night, got a much more thorough picture of things. No stint for my liver, too late for that. My liver is currently 75% tumors. Doctor says chemo is up to me, it'd likely only buy me another 3 months or so.

Dead man walking. It's been fun, guys. Arguing with some of you, making fun of some of you, and bonding with a whole lot of you. I'll keep posting updates... miracles happen, after all.

Good grief. :(

I figured when the end was near, I'd re-read Tuesdays with Morrie and some of Carl Sagan's stuff when he was terminally dying. At least you don't need loved ones wiping your ass for you on the way out like Morrie.

But, yeah, miracles man. Hopefully it's not the way out. Nothing wrong with proving everyone wrong.

Easy to say from our seat but the only difference between you and us is you had somebody tell ya a probable date. We are all working our way out. Do some things you enjoy and check off a bucket list item or 2.

Peace brother. Tell the ones you love that you do. I was very close to this myself earlier this year, it blows my mind that you are going through this. Are you married? Have kids? Sorry if I missed this before.

Been married 28yrs. I've got 3 kids, and 2.5 grandkids (daughter is pregnant.. no, it's not mine).

Positively heartbroken man. Thinking of your pregnant daughter. She's got to be going through the wringer in a whole range of emotions. Make sure you try to video something for your grandchild. And a good guy from what I could tell.

Words fail. Be a little selfish. If not now, when? Do what you want while you still can. And just think about the Legacy you're leaving behind. God bless.

Ps; what part of the country you live in?

Jesus, that's terrible. Really sorry this is happening so fast. Focus on quality of life, to which chemo rarely adds. Ask to talk to a palliative care doc and when the time is right, consider home hospice.

Hospice, Home hospice is great.

They loaded my dad up on preloaded syringes of morphine.

I never gave him any. But damn those shots sure took the edge off the guilt of bogarting his stash.
