how to set up draft buddy for different lineups

Recommended Posts

hello everybody, I've used draft buddy for a number of years now, and I'm always pleased with the results. however, there's one league that I'm a part of that doesn't quite fit the mold, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I can do.

the league I'm having trouble with is a fairly old-fashioned, 12-team, touchdown-heavy one. the reason I have trouble with it in regards to draft buddy is due to the team lineups. in this league, an owner can choose between 3 different lineups. each lineup must contain the following; QB, RB, K, D/ST, and one group of:

1. RB, RB, TE, TE

2. RB, WR, WR, TE

3. WR, WR, WR, WR

so far, the best way I've found to deal with this is to create 3 cheatsheets, one for each lineup configuration, and decide which one to roll with when it's my turn for the first round pick. usually, that choice is #2 or #3, as people in the league draft running backs early and often, even if they are chasing the trend and could get a top-flight WR or TE instead. I was wondering if anyone can think of a better way to do this, preferably keeping it within 1 cheatsheet.

thanks!

Hi knight11e. That is a pretty odd set up. Has anyone gone with the 2 RB + 2 TE option very often (which would actually be 3 starting RB)? You really can't use 3 WR, 1 TE, eh? That's too bad, because if you could then I think I'd be inclined to just combine the WR and TE into a single position using that option in Buddy.

I think realistically the middle option would give you the most balanced lineup, the first one would rarely be used, and the third could be pretty desirable if you can get some stud WRs while the rest of the league is gobbling up RBs in the draft.

If we throw out the top option, then we are down to set starters of RB = 1, WR = 2, and then a Flex RB/WR and a Flex WR/TE. Instead of using the O-Flex position, which doesn't quite account for both of these Flex spots, lets put in some decimal amounts for the starters to approximate the anticipated number of starters at each position, to give us a reasonable ranking. I'm thinking something along the lines of:

starters RB = 1.7, WR = 2.7, TE = 0.6 for the 5 starters (above options plus 1 RB)

This would seem to put a little more emphasis on the RB/TE (middle) option while not closing the door on the last one. I would run this, and then if you think one of the positions is overvalued or undervalued relative to the rest, make some tweaks and hit Compile Cheatsheets, again.

Cool?

ah, very interesting, I did not know you could use decimals for the number of positions in a lineup.

I'll give this a shot and see what I'm working with. thanks for the quick reply!
