What are your thoughts on drafting Luck this year?

Recommended Posts

Im in a contracted keeper league. Top QBs always seem to go for what they are worth overall. So no keepers there. You all think Luck will be a bargain this year or will his ADP be around normal?

If he misses the whole preseason, where will he go?

I believe I took him in the 6th round in the July Mock on here. I thought that was a decent deal.

I wouldn't draft him at all... regardless of the round.

I'd pass on him this year. Has he even started throwing yet? That's an important ability for a QB.

He's becoming close to a DND. Between injuries and a difficult schedule there's just too many other solid options at cheaper price typically. He's becoming a low end QB 1, that requires a solid backup in my opinion. Most of the time he's being drafted as a mid range QB1, which is too high for me.

I'm steering clear due to a weak offensive line, and that brutal schedule. No thanks!

He's on my radar for one of my leagues, but we start 2 QB in that league and the dynamic is different for leagues where 2 QB gets to start.

Then you is a fool.

I don't like Luck this year do to schedule and injury issues. I'd take him if he dropped from QB4 to QB12. That would be worth the risk. I don't think there any chance that is going to happen.

I agree. Almost every player is worth taking at some point. How could you pass on luck at the end of a draft?

Look at his FF Playoff schedule... From what I remember, it is brutal. No thanks.

Speaking of playoff schedule or schedule in general, look at the NFC East teams and who they have to play. It's brutal guys....

I really hope all in my league feel the same way most people here are feeling. Maybe I can get him cheap and platoon him.

If you arent targeting a QB you may pick up a second 1 before you choose Luck and then u ask do you take Luck as a third QB and it weakens your team. Last year i was surprised to see Rivers at the end of the draft and tht about a third QB thinking I can change out QBs due to playing a weak team.

That sounds like a terrible strategy unless it's a two QB league or one with really big benches.

yea i stuck with 2, just thought it could be possible with Lucks bad schedule he could go undrafted if the scenario went like I stated. But yea I draft 2 QBs and start the hot play for the week, and target people I can get later. -Eli, Roethlisberger, Stafford, Dalton, and Carr would be some of them and I would take them over Luck, but to each there own.

Come on guys, let's be realistic here... do you really think everyone in the league would allow Luck fall past the 10th round? No. It's why I said that I wouldn't take him. I'm not taking him as a QB1. I'd take him as a backup... round 15 or so. I honestly don't think Luck is all that great anyway. He's a solid QB with more hype than production. If his defense is even remotely decent, then he's no better than Joe Flacco (for fantasy purposes).

I agree that he won't fall that far which would result in him not worth being drafted. I can't agree that he's not that good though. He's been great when healthy. I don't think it's far to use the seasons where he was injured.

His career passer rating is 87.3... Andy Dalton's is 89.1. Luck is overrated.

Whoop de doo! That's not a significant difference for me and doesn't score me any more points in fantasy football.

In one extra year of football Dalton has played in 23 more games which is meaningful but Luck has been the better QB in the games he's played.

Dalton has 3,136 more yards than Luck but if you average that out it's only 136 yards per game more.

Dalton only has 10 more TDs than Luck which averages out to .43 TDs per game more. Not impressive.

Dalton has thrown 13 more INTs than Luck which is actually a better ratio than what Luck has but not a big enough difference for me in fantasy football and probably the biggest reason for the rating difference.

So in 23 extra games over Luck, Dalton could only muster up 3,136 more yards and 10 TDs. I'll take a healthy Luck over Dalton.

Dalton has also had an all pro WR, all pro TE and multiple solid backs around him for his career.

Even with that he hasn't been able to throw for more yards or TDs per game than Luck.

The last year he had a healthy AJ Green and Eifert and M.Jones he was QB7.

Cincy is loaded this year, I think Dalton will be a top 10 QB

I don't see an over rated QB.

He's played in a whole season four out of his five years that he's been in the NFL.

And he has an avg finsh in ff points scored for qbs of 5th in those four full seasons.

I will take that over rated QB any time.

Except they lost their 2 best offensive linemen and Dalton sucks under pressure. Yeah, good luck with that.

Luck also averages 5 more pass attempts per game. For a full season, that's 90 passes. Yeah, I'm sure he could throw for a lot more yards with 90 extra pass attempts. In the NFL, I'd take Dalton over Luck. In fantasy... Luck will regress to his talent as coaches will realize he isn't as good as they hoped/wanted him to be.

This is a fantasy football forum though and we're talking about drafting. Luck has already proven he can be the best fantasy QB in the league when he's healthy. I'm sorry but no matter what you say about Dalton I haven't seen anything to prove he's better than Luck. I will agree that Dalton is a great value this year and could finish as high as a top 5 QB but he's still not as talented as Luck. Luck has the ability to be the best which is saying a lot with QBs like Rodgers and Brady to compete with.
