The kid has talent and a premier ride. I liked Junior, but something just didnt seem right. I dont know if it was talent or his level of interest or focus or what. I really dont think he needed racing to be his life like it was with Dale Sr. I think he shoulda won way more races with Hendrick than he did. Was shocked to hear JR retiring so young then realized he just didn't have the same fire his old man did. Obviously the fan base has dropped off tremendously. 20ish years ago, I used to go to 5-8 races a year. I havent been to a race in probably 5 years and have only gone with free tickets from 2010 on. I just cant get into like I used to. Its not that its too expensive or too far to drive but its not the same. I usually have the TV tuned in on Sundays, but Im not on the edge of my seat. I personally think the decline started when they started pulling races from smaller tracks to give more races to every cookie cutter 1.5 mile oval in the country. Wilkesboro and Rockingham were 2 of my favorites. Nascar would kill to have the level of interest that was present in the mid 90s. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The last great rivalry was Jeff Gordan vs. Dale Sr. Then for a while it looked like it was going to be Gordan vs Jr., until Jr. went and signed with the devil himself. Replacing Kyle Busch, who went on to be a much better talent than Jr. ever was. I still follow it pretty close this time of year, as theres no other sports that interest me at this time. I just didnt like Kevin Harvick. When Jr. signed with Hendricks and then Kyle Busch wrecked him at Richmond I became a KB fan. Now I just root for KB and anyone who wrecks Kuntelowski. Just listen to Darrell Waltrip when KB wrecked him. Its like he just found out his dog died or something. I know its early, but im really interested in seeing how good Blaney is gonna be. He had some real flashes of greatness last year in the 21. The miniscule percentage percentage of actual racist fans are gonna hate him no matter what. If he has a chip on his shoulder, hes gonna turn alot of people off.
