$20M for OBJ?! See ya..

Recommended Posts

You've got to be kidding me! :shocking:

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Odell Beckham has told people close to him he is targeting over $20 million per year on a new deal.

Beckham is signed for one more year at $8.5 million, so contract extension talks have already begun. "He's in the twenties (million per year)," said Garafolo regarding Beckham's asking price in annual average. "He wants to be in the low twenties." The "low twenties" is lower-end franchise quarterback money. Antonio Brown is presently the NFL's highest-paid receiver at $17 million per year.

AB was the ONLY consensus All-Pro in this year's voting. And he's done it (i.e., overall best WR) for something like four straight seasons.

OBJ stating his floor is $20M a year is craziness. If that is the case - the NYG should franchise him. Have some other team shower him with $20M, and get one or two first round picks in return.

Why would the giants even consider paying that much? It's not like that puts them over the top in competition. Unless they feel they owe the fans some entertainment value which if nothing else, that drama queen provides in one form or another. God knows the rest of that team is like watching paint dry.

I would agree that no one player his worthy of being paid that much money.

But I hope he gets all of it, shame on the owners for paying him, and not for him asking for and then receving that much.

My first round pick this past year. Lucky for me I picked Gurley round two. He is on my do not draft list next year.

I think you have to put the number in a bit of context. The cap goes up every year in a healthy way and contracts signed a coupe of years ago can look paltry in comparison at every position save RB.

Here's the context I see, Jarvis Landry was just slapped with the franchise tag and its 16.2 mil a yr. Not only is a team willing to pay him that amount, but it looks like the contract has value to other teams at that number who are willing to give up some sort of compensation to trade for and pay him that amount.

If the current market is such that Landry is 16.2 million................. heck yeah Beckham is 20+ mil for me.

Not arguing any human being deserves to be paid that much, that its smart to pay any WR that much, etc.

I'm just saying I don't think its out of line with the current market

The salary cap is likely to go up over $10 million this year alone. The collective bargaining is also coming up in 2021 which would likely be in the middle of any long term contract from the Giants.

OBJ has the potential to be in the Hall of Fame someday. He is worthy of $20 million a year because he makes the Giants owner John Mara much more than $20 million a year.

In a Kim Kardashian kind if way... yeah, he does. There is definitely a large part of the audience that is attracted to the spectacle of some personalities. He brings in a lot of talk on radio and TV for sure.

I don't know much about their salary cap situation, but that probably plays into things. And he's no Antonio Brown on the field.

Giants stadium was sold out long before OBJ ever came along, and will be long after he's gone.

Where does most of their revenue come from? Ticket sales?

I don't know, but in a city that big they won't ever lack for fans I guess. OBJ helps gain football interest from other markets.

you guys are just jealous.

he is worth every penny. :dunno:

its quite possible he's worth that, but it will require a paradigm shift in NFL team thinking to make it happen.

If I were Mara I would understand my superstar WR is worth more than my current QB.

But I'd be reluctant paying him more than Eli and setting a precedent.

Mike Evans got 5 years and $82.5m. That's $16.5m per, so $20m per for ODB sounds fair now.

Unless you feel that Evans was overpaid.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22715325/new-york-giants-aware-odell-beckham-jr-video

The New York Giants and the NFL are aware of a potentially troubling video involving wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. that was leaked Friday while he was on a Nike-sponsored trip in Europe.

The seven-second clip posted on social media shows Beckham in a bed alongside a pizza holding what appears to be some sort of brown cigarette or cigar. There is a woman next to him with a credit card and what looks like a white powdery substance aligned in rows.

Sure. He may just want to not get suspended before all is said and dome.

Giants should start over. If they don't draft a QB at 2 this year they will soon be a bottom dweling team with no qb and an overpaid diva WR that may ruin any young QB who comes in.

So true. They may not even resign the diva for that much money after all the unstable crap he pulls. If they hate all of the QBs, then it needs to be a trade down and try to build their lines. And no, not like what Beckham understands as lines.

Would Cleveland give up their four for Beckham? They have the money and their offense would be ODB, Landry and Gordon, Hyde in the backfield and a young QB on the way. Cover that.

Beckham too the Browns will hurt so much when it comes too ff.

They still don't have QB worthy of successfully using the weapons they already have.

Don't forget about D Johnson and their young te.

Might be good for the Browns, but awfull for ff.

All depends who can work a deal. Browns have all the cap room but hr may not want to play there as he is a diva who likes to be in NYC lights. If they try to ship him to a bad team and franchise he would probably play hard ball on the contract.

Teams like to put butts in seats right?

So I think if they could they would, but again when it comes too this site, it would hurt in ff.

Cleveland would still control him for two more years. If he wants a long term deal they have the leverage, or he risks it and plays it out. His agent would advise him to sign?

I saw something - I think today - that OBJ will NOT play this year without a long-term contract. After what happened to him last year, with his ankle. So, he won't play for the ~ $8.5M, fifth-year rookie deal option.

Could be his ticket out of town. But the Giants won't, and shouldn't give him away. He's still a valuable commodity

He's only worth what someone will pay for him.

Between his on the field dumbassery, his off the field dumbassery, and his desire for a GIGANTIC contract, that's a lot for GM to consider before giving up a draft pick.

But some places need the fans to pay attention. I'm thinking the Chargers could use some excitement? Cardinals? Sell it that Fitz will mentor him into being a half way decent person?

You make a good point on the fans and attention to the team. But as much excitement this guy brings on Sundays (when healthy), he also brings crazy attention like being in photos with him and some chick in bed with coke involved.

He also has weird attention grabbing actions in games that are off the play.

And I get the feeling that Fitz could not reign him in because beckham only respects himself. He doesn't even give a crap about a contract he signed with the giants.

He has elevated the giants to an 0-1 playoff record in his time with the team. He is not worth what he asking unless someome wants to pay that I guess.
