Movie especially for folks with daughters

Recommended Posts

It's called 'The Eagle Huntress'. You guys can all do the Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB and whatever searches yourselves.

However, it's really more of a documentary. It's about a young teen girl in Mongolia. There, they hunt game with Golden Eagles. You have to capture your own Eagle, imprint on them, train them, get them to trust you, the whole thing.

It's also historically and culturally a 'guy thing'. So, she meets a lot of resistance, but her Dad helps her and encourages her every step of the way.

She ends up at a competition and - well, you figure it out.

Anyway, I could totally see this becoming Disney-fied. And I guess that wouldn't get all bad. Though, I'm not sure how they'd handle the hunting thing. "Nice Carrots you caught Aroof!"

But the fact that it's not - that it's real - is pretty cool. Not to mention that this is still a 'girly girl' of young teen years. She also speaks multiple languages and has her heart set on becoming a surgeon - got admitted to a fancy school and everything. - All against a backdrop of an ancient and men-driven culture.

Anyhoo, If I had a daughter growing up, I'd sure want her to see it. Very well reviewed and rated.

Rewatched this last night. Really incredible. Grumpy misogynistic 50 year old sob and I'm cheering and laughing and crying like she's my own kid.

Really can't recommend this enough. And I didn't realize until last night that Daisy Ridley not only narrated it but helps produce it as well. Along with a bunch of other familiar names.

What's amazing is that it's real. She's real. They have genuinely grumpy old misogynistic mongol men who refused to accept her. And still, don't read further if spoiler.

Spoiler- she wins the competition. Spoiler alert I guess.

But on second watch, this really is a great love story. It seems like dads and daughters relationships are always cast aside. Dads always the idiot and the daughter is the one rolling her eyes and storming off and being a bich to the dad.

But in this case, Dad saw her not as a daughter but as a child. And had a huge faith in her all the way through. and, she loved her dad and respected him.

So maybe it is a Disney Fantasy. LOL

This could so easily be made into a Disney cartoon. And whole story lines and characters created to quote make it more accessible to Western audiences. AKA, more marketable.

I'm glad they kept it like it was and it is. A real story about real girls. Not do I'd beauties. But real girls and real characters.

Sure hope you guys make an effort to watch this. Especially if you have kids.
