Reaching for a couple guys?

Recommended Posts

Hey folks - I have a draft coming up soon and I'm trying to get some feedback on some potential picks. Please link if you have some questions I might be able to help with.

I have the #3 pick in a 12-team, snake, redraft (see below for scoring/other info).

I'm solid at #3, knowing I probably have Tomlinson - I'm concerned about picks 22 (late 2nd), 27 (early 3rd), 46 (late 4th), and 51 (early 5th).

Wish such a long wait between "bursts" of picks, I may see a lot of the guys I'm interested in disappear if I think I can wait for them.

I really like Chester Taylor and normally would expect to see him go mid-late 3rd round. I'd rather have him over the likes of Kevin Jones, Julius, and Dillon who are most likely the RB's left at this point (if someone like McGahee or Bush fell to 22, I'd obviously grab them instead). For ME to get him, I'd need to grab him at 27th at the latest. Unfortunately, I know the guy with picks 1/24/25 is also high on him, so I expect he'd grab him at 24/25 first.

So...is it really reaching to grab Chester at 22 to ensure he's not taken before my 3rd pick at 27? That might downgrade my #1 WR, who I expect might otherwise be Chambers/Boldin/Moss to Roy Williams/Burress/Wayne. Is that downgrade worth getting Chester over Kevin/Julius and Dillon as my #2 RB?

I also like what I saw in Culpepper last night. In most mock drafts I HAVE been doing before last night, he's lasting solidly to round 6/7 (picks 61-84). I expect that will jump with his good performance in pre-season. Would I be out of my mind to get him as early as Round 4 or 5 (46/51)? Remember, I'd have to wait for pick 70 to get him deep in round 6 and I think he'll go late 5/early 6 if I don't get him first.

Thanks for any input you have!

First, I would imagine one of the better receivers would still be there with your third pick (nothing wrong with having Reggie Wayne as a #1 WR); second, there is definitley nothing wrong with reaching on Chester Taylor in the second. I picked him with the last pick in the second round and am quite happy. Minnesota has a mammoth O-line, and their passing game isn't quite as desparate as you would think from listening to these boards.

I also happen to have Culpepper (4th rounds) so I imagine I like the way you are leaning on your picks.

I am also targeting C Taylor and Culpepper. I think you have to do what it takes to get them else you will end up with some scrubs! My draft is in 4 hours!!
