This years Dak...not stats, just out of nowhere QB

Recommended Posts

so looking around the league, last year, I tabbed Dak as the best rookie QB before the draft, I really liked him coming out of college, however nobody saw what he did coming at all.

This year I think that guy is CJ Bethard. Its easy to say Watson, Tribusky, even Mahomes (who I am really impressed by)

I think Bethard plays quite a bit this year, and performs pretty well.

This really isnt a fantasy thing though, just kinda putting it on paper

Lol no you didn't.

I'm going Trubisky

Drafts second overall pick isn't out of nowhere, he's supposed to be good.

I did, I was all over the Chargers message board hoping they would select him in the 2nd round last year

I also went out on a huge limb in the past, and said Matt Ryan would be better than Jay Cutler

Another good video from the film room about four of the rookie QBs... From earlier in the preseason

Dak's scouting report was actually a fair bit better.

for Dak, the knock on him was that he wasnt exceptionally good under pressure. Otherwise the skills were all good, and he could make all the throws.

I think Dak did well because he had a top O line that kept the pressure off of him and a top RB which also slowed the pass rush in a significant way thereby mitigating his greatest deficiency.

This kid has no such luxury and the report I saw suggests his deep ball accuracy is terrible.

That being said, he is probably best suited to a west coast offense (West coast offense doesnt do a lot of deep throws... it's mostly short to medium throws)

but he also has pocket awareness problems that will hurt him if he doesnt get that issue resolved. Otherwise, the report suggests hes a smart kid who knows where to go with the ball and such, so maybe with some coaching he could be an eventual starter in a west coast system (or a system with a top O line like Dak had)

Right now that does not exist in San Fran.

Shanahan runs a ZBS which does a decent job of masking mediocre OLines. But you are right. I don't know any of there linemen by name

As a Bears fan I hope it's Trubisky and I really think he's pretty good but I don't think the Bears have to start him most of the year.

As an Iowa Hawkeye fan I really hope it's Beathard. It's been way too long since an Iowa QB was relevant in the NFL. Loved the Beathard to Kittle connection yesterday.

Hes a rookie QB. Even if its andrew luck its still out of nowhere for a QB to be solid in year 1.

I think I'm with Tanatastic on this.

if the QB was selected in the first round, he didnt come out of nowhere.

first round picks who are QB's are generally expected to be either a solid starter or a stud QB at the time they are drafted.

whether that happens in year 1, 2 or 3 of their career, it is expected.

A few of you are missing my point. I'm saying the top taken qb is not "out of nowhere". Dak was, since he was a 4th rounder and not even supposed to be on the field.

You are somehow still having a completely different conversation than me. I'm not concerned with Trubiskys details at all. Just reread my posts in this thread I guess, I donno.

The rookie is not often the assumed starter unless he's a top 5 pick. Even then, it does not always happen.

I understand you completely and agree, the reason I mentioned Bethard, is cause quite frankly nobody really knows who he is, he wasnt highly rated by many, but he comes from a football family, calling Trubisky, Watson, Mahomes, even Kizer, doesnt really strike me as an out of nowhere

Watson is the obvious answer. He looks really good. And if he were on any other team, he'd be the guy. Problem is, Tom Savage is a lot better than most people think. And considering the fact that the Texans win with defense, I don't see him getting replaced any time soon.

If we're not including 1st round picks, then I think Kizer will have the best chance of success.

Opportunity: We all know about Osweiler, and there are already murmurs that Kizer will supplant Kessler as the #2...if he hasn't yet. Even if he doesn't, Osweiler won't last long, and Kessler was injury prone last season and hasn't looked great as of late. If Kizer doesn't play his way into a starting spot, he could easily Fitzmagic his way there. Plus, Kizer looked great his first preseason game. We should know even more tonight.

O-line: Many analysts have Cleveland ranked as having a top 5 OL going into the 2017 season. As evidenced with Dak, a rookie QB usually must have a solid line to perform well.

Weapons: Coleman, Britt, Crowell, Duke Johnson...middle of the road....probably enough to not hinder QB performance.

Schedule: A mixed bag throughout the season.

I just can't see Beathard coming in and succeeding right away. The opportunity may present itself if Hoyer goes down with an injury again (since Barkley is terrible). But the 49ers O-line is garbage, the offensive talent is pretty limited, and playing against the NFC West is really tough. Not to mention he was drafted 2-4 rounds ahead of his projection, whereas Dak was considered pro-ready when he came into the league.

Pat mahomes. Smith gets hurt early and mahomes is allowed to show off his cannon hooking up with hill like a drunk Alabama girl with her cousin. All the time.

I haven't heard great reports, but I'd say if you are going with someone out of nowhere it would be Nathan Peterman. Buffalo is in firesale mode and if they could get rid of Taylor for something I think they would. Even if that doesn't happen, I wouldn't be surprised to seem Peterman play at some time this year, as Taylor is clearly not the QB this regime wants.

Being a 9ers fan I'd love to see BeathaRd come outta nowhere & put up good numbers. However, I think that may be a Longshot for him to accomplish. Hoyer & Barkley ahead of him so it might take quite a bit to get on the field.

My money is on Trubisky.

The writing was on the wall for Barkley when third-round rookie C.J. Beathard played ahead of him in the Niners' second and third preseason games. Barkley had a quiet preseason, completing just 13-of-21 passes for 197 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. With Barkley out of the mix, Beathard will open the year as the primary backup to Brian Hoyer in San Francisco.

one step closer

I say Trubisky or Kizer but there may not be a good rookie QB this year, at least for fantasy purposes, not like Dak

Huge limb on Matt Ryan? Matt Ryan never showed anything but star potential from the time he was starting at BC. Drafted number 3 in his draft class. Cutler was number 11 in his draft class.

Mahomes has the sickest physical skills.

Undrafted rookie qb cooper rush has the sickest mental skills.

Trubisky has the best combination of mental and physical skills needed to be a star.
