July PPR Mock - Results and Analysis

Recommended Posts

On my cooks pick vs Rodgers, i like Rodgers a lot. If he didnt have such a tough start to the season I wouldnt have passed on him. There is not a lot of data to support my pick, but he played pretty well for a rookie. Now he is the focal point for Drew Brees. Plus he will take a few carries each week. Cooks is the ultimate muti tool receiver imo. He has blazing speed to go deep, plus great quickness to work the field underneath.

I know there are a few people who post here whose opinion I highly respect who agree with me. He had the highest upside of any receiver imo. I got Drew Brees late who I believe will not be that far off from Rodgers.

Edelman may not have Brady for the first 4 games. Idk that Garrapolo can sustain Edelman in Bradys absence. Plus its not like Edelman was incredible last year. I think his SB performance is pushing his perceived value a little higher than it should be.

Emmanuel Sanders had a career year. Imo Manning really showed signs of slowing down the second half of the season. I fear Sanders will be the victim of noodle arm syndrome first, with Manning needing to rely on the more physical Thomas to bail him out.

I could be wrong on Cooks, but to me there was no obvious receiver that should be taken ahead of him without some reasonable concerns about their situation.

Mike:
Excellent review by Jason, I appreciate his time and effort since we all put a lot of time into this Mock. He writes well and he has good insights. Thanks for having him write this and post it!

As to my team, etc., yes, I liked drafting from the 12th spot. Based on this mock and the comments, when I had the opportunity to select my draft position in one of my Leagues I selected the 10th slot.

Lastly, the best part of these June & July Mocks are the running commentary and willingness of participants to constructively critique each selection......that is where the real learning takes place, not so much which player you select.

Kind of like how Jason just learned Cooks was an awesome pick :)

10 Things I Noticed from the Mock - Nice mock analysis by Jason Katz.

If you want to perk some interest on the site for the mock, you need to make a few comments and assessments. jmho

#8: The FFT mocks aren't good indicators of where Defenses are/should be taken. In the June/July scoring system, the defenses/special teams only get points for the points they score (kick, punt, fumble, INT returns, safeties, and now returns on PAT attempts). Even ignoring the volatility of defense from year to year, that's just not very many points.

Last year, the top scorer was the Eagles, with 48 points. If you hit on a middle round QB who (conservatively) turns out to be startable, and that's 300 points. A startable RB is in the neighborhood of 150 points. A startable WR being around 180 points. TE 160 points. The points just aren't there to justify taking a D before the last round.

- loving Hawkeye and Robb's work here

Hawkeye has great receivers. His rbs however have some serious questions. Lamar Miller has an absolute bear of a schedule. Probably the toughest in the league. Then Ellington has been dinged up a bit with foot issues, plus he plays in a tough division, plus he just hasnt shown to me he is a good rb.

Thank you Frozenbeernuts for your kind words. I hope Cooks gets 130 receptions and 1800 yards this season for you!

I like the slot I drafted from and will try to do the same in my money leagues.

Thank you. I was happy with it but it has some obvious weaknesses. We'll see how the season goes.
