The Pre-Draft 38...

Recommended Posts

As a culmination of the profiles and "others" I've posted over the last two months, here is the way I would rank the 38 players I profiled from a fantasy perspective prior to the draft. In essence, this is how I think the board should stack for dynasty owners without knowing "fits". These ranks will differ slightly from the way I ranked them earlier because the first rankings were based strictly on tape, while these rankings take into account how their games will translate to fantasy.

1 Leonard Fournette

2 Christian McCaffrey
3 Dalvin Cook
4 O.J. Howard
5 Corey Davis
6 Mike Williams
7 Joe Mixon
8 David Njoku
9 Zay Jones
10 Evan Engram
11 John Ross
12 Curtis Samuel
13 Kareem Hunt
14 Cooper Kupp
15 Bucky Hodges (will he be listed as TE or WR; TE listing puts him in the first round)
16 D'Onta Foreman
17 Marlon Mack
18 Jamaal Williams
19 Alvin Kamara (the right "fit" makes him a likely rookie draft first-rounder)
20 ArDarius Stewart
21 Chris Godwin
22 Josh Reynolds
23 JuJu Smith-Schuster
24 James Conner
25 Samaje Perine
26 DeShone Kizer
27 Deshaun Watson
28 Jeremy McNichols
29 Adam Shaheen
30 Gerald Everett
31 Mitch Trubisky
32 Nathan Peterman
33 Patrick Mahomes II
34 Brian Hill
35 Jake Butt
36 Davis Webb
37 Joshua Dobbs
38 Brad Kaaya
******* I acknowledge this is a somewhat flawed list, as players like Tarik Cohen and Michael Robets should be on it. But for the sake of consistency, I thought I would do it this way.

I think Fournette is by far the best prospect for fantasy football in this draft. I feel like he's about as close to a sure thing as you can get.

Outside of him I don't see any of them I feel that good about. I know this is a fairly deep draft, especially at RB, and many of them will pan out, I just don't feel that confident about any of them to say they're a lock.

Any thoughts on tier breaks Doug?

Thanks for the all the hard work

I'll give you my initial impressions above (I'll bold where I think each one begins and ends).

Cook may have some value, depending on where he ends up and if he takes being a "pro" seriously.

I'm from Colorado and I don't have any faith in McCaffrey....more like a Danny Woodhead guy.

Sleeper: Engram, TE. He has the measurements to be good, maybe not for 2017, but watch out for him!

I agree Fournette is easily the best prospect, all things being equal. I do think McCaffrey is going to find a good enough fit to be in the discussion, however, and I like the comparison I made with him to Westbrook. Shady McCoy has lasted a while with a similar build, although I don't see McCaffrey as quite that elusive.

Were it not for Cook's off-field and Injury history, he'd be my #2.

Its possible your top 8 get drafted tonight, but maybe 1 or 2 drag into tomorrow. Exciting stuff!

Oh I believe he will be a name we all come to know pretty well over the next couple of seasons if he can stay healthy. I see him though as more likely an RB2 or flex as to where Fournette I believe will be a solid RB1.

He could be a PPR stud along the lines of a Danny Woodhead. I believe Brian Westbrook is a long shot. I see more of a Devonta Freeman upside minus a few TDs.
