Bears hire Matt Nagy as HC

Recommended Posts

Good luck Jordan Howard owners.

Kareem Hunt averaged 20 carries in all of KCs wins this year and 12 carries in all of their losses. Good going Nagy giving Hunt 11 carries vs. Tennesee in KCs playoff loss. Especially after being up 21-3 and Kelce out for the game.

Doesn't the Head Coach have some input on the play calling, I think they do.

I think this could be very good news for you Howard owners.

Your Welcome.

You may have missed it but some weeks back Reid gave up play calling to Nagy. I don't understand your point.

If you believe he really did.

I don't think any coach truly gives up anything.

Maybe you don't understand that.

That's why they have the title Head Coach.

Yeah it's a good move for Howard owners, and unlike KC they don't have a lot of other choices.

KC is diffently a more talented team, and Howard is the Bears best player.

So I would think they would use him.

Why would he not want too use his best player?m

And didn't Hunt win the rushing title m?

yeah because Doug Pederson didn't work out in Philly after serving under Reid as OC. Our playcalling was just as lame when Pederson was the OC

So you are thinking that every head coach calls all the offensive plays during the game.

Wentz is the guy in Philly, not Pederson.

Andy Reid just doesn't know how to prepare a team for post season play. That's his problem.

Bears got Nagy as a HC, and that's their new problem. They will need Trubisky to step up quick for them to be a decent club.

Nope not saying that the Head Coach calls on the playes.

But your saying he gave up play calling. Yes?

I'm saying he the Head Coach in this case Andy Reid didn't give up all play calling as you noted.

So which one is it that you believe?

Ps even without Nagy the Bears need Trubisky to step up, so what's your point?

Which plays did Reid call?

But back too the point.

If you own Howard I would be excited about this move.

Good luck.

The team reported that Reid gave up play calling to the OC. Since you said that Reid is calling plays, how are you determining this?

I heard that Nagy called plays for 4 games during the year. Reid relieved him of play calling duties for the playoff game so he could focus on a head coaching job elsewhere. Seems to have worked in Nagy's favor, not the Chiefs. Very well could be hearsay, but I believe it.

I'm would agree Scott.

I think a Head Coach might give up some play calling, but no Head Coach ever gives up all of it.

They are the Head Coach for a reason.

Good post Scott.

Hunt did lead the league in rushing, that should be exciting too those that indeed own Howard.

Either way will shall see.

I dont think this hire is negative at all for Howard. They were comparing Trubisky to Alex Smith and 670 the Score said Nagy stayed in contact with Trubisky all year, so it looks like a good relationship already there. Howard should prosper.

And if Nagy was the sole play caller as the OP seems too think, then I would be nervous if I was a Hunt owner, and not a Howard owner.

Chief homer here. Reid definitely had his hand in the play calling in the playoff game.

I wouldn't want either of them. But if Trubisky pans out I like the Bears moving forward. Just don't draft another injured first rounder.

Da Bears decided Nagy was their McVay. Nagy was high on Trubs last year before Reid fell in love w Mahommes so that's a good start imo.

Not worried about Howard, he'll be fine. Have to find a true WR1 who stays healthy, have to shore up the oline. I'd keep Fangio at DC as well.

all I'm saying is no one knew what to expect with Pederson when he was OC under Reid, because you knew Reid had a heavy hand in play-calling. Turns out all it yielded was clinching home field for the Eagles throughout after securing Pederson. Nagy is just as much an unknown commodity at this point. What we know with Reid is that his players are loyal and they know how to win, what he lacks is some of the stuff us fans think we could be better at, like in-game management or game planning. Some of that stuff should be easy enough for someone with sound football knowledge. Learning from Reid on motivating players and managing a team has worked out for several coaches in the league. Just wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Nagy find success as well. And at this point we know what we have for Reid, and I'm willing to take my chances on an unknown commodity more so than continuing to put up with what we know we have in Andy Reid.

Well Nagy just mentioned he wishes he could go back and change some things in the playcalling. Seems to me like he had his hand in that offense on Saturday.

I don't have a source for this because I don't remember where I saw it but I read that said Andy took back play calling for the playoff game.

I don't understand why he would do that? They were in a superbowl run and they were hot going into the playoffs. Why would you put a guy looking for another job ahead of a playoff run? Especially Reid with his own and KCs history of bad playoff games.

If he did do that, he should be banned from coaching for the next 5 years. That's pure disrespect to the fans that have been supporting them all year.

Just heard on NFL.com. Nagy confirmed he called the plays in the second half of the game against the Titans. Terrible.

And that would mean Reid indeed took back the play calling for the first half.

So that's why he will retain the play calling after the promotion of his Rb coach too the OC postion

Sorry KC, but Howard should be just fine in getting a coach that just left a team with the leagues leading rusher.

How do you know he called the first half? Nagy was only asked about the second half. Earlier you said Reid called the game. You just say crap and hope it sticks.

I never said Reid called the whole game , I said no coach gives up total control.

Number two if Nagy only called the second half, then who do you think called the first half?

That's right Reid.

So I ask you, if Nagy called only the second half then who do you think called the first half? M

Come on it starts with a R.

Sorry. No way the playcalling went from Reid to Nagy and then to Reid for the 1st half and after being up 21-3, Reid decided to munch out on the buffet in the pressbox and give 2nd half playcalling to Nagy.

It was Nagy all the way.

Seriously. And after being up 18 and losing Kelce, he only gave Hunt 11 carries all game. Just wow.

Hunt was underutilized as a fantasy asset this year but otoh he lead the league in rushing. Perhaps Reid & co did not want to burn him out, perhaps his pass pro was lacking.

As a bears fan I'm excited to see them hire Nagy and look forward to seeing what he does w the offense. I'm not worried about Howard, I'm worried about the oline and keeping Fangio as DC.

He confirmed it after the fact. wee paws is just working his hardest to convince everyone that he knows what he is talking about after his take on things were exposed as incorrect. No big deal.

Now they signed Mark Helfrich as the OC.

His input will be good for the development of the Bears young QB.

I like these moves that the Bears are making.

Reid is the next Schottenheimer - great in the regular season. But crashes-and-burns in the playoffs, when ALL the teams are good.

Nagy took over play calling at some point during the season. I think the last 7 games, when they got their groove back. Therefore: Nagy called the ENTIRE game vs. TEN. So, yes - he was criminal in not giving Hunt more carries. Especially with a three-score lead!!
