Double spin: Things that aren't worth it

Recommended Posts

Oh I would too. I told her I would much rather spend three times that and take her to Paris (her dream destination, Ive been) and get married just the two of us.

But shes 32, and for some reason, had given up on getting married. The church thing is important to her, and family and whatnot is too. She has lived abroad for years, and I think she really wants to do it at home with everyone. And thats fine.

Frankly, since the long term plan is for us to retire there, it probably is a good idea for me to go ahead and get churched up and put on a bit of a show with the whole thing, so Im not just random americano anymore.

But yeah, I told her, the wedding is hers, Ill take care of the honeymoon. Since we will already be in the Philippines anyway, we will just do it there. There are many wonderful resorts on beautiful islands. Ill pick one. It will be cheap.

And she now makes the same that I do, so its not like its all my money here.

Im hoping that I can get her a US tourist visa, and after the honeymoon, take her home to meet my family. But Im not sure if that will be possible. My folks said if we get a visa, they will plan and pay for a trip for the whole family (brother and sister, spouses, and assorted kids) and we can meet them there. Maybe California or something.

It would be cruel to take her to America for the first time and only show her Memphis Tennessee. And Id rather get the introductions out of the way on neutral turf. I suspect the family estste will intimidate her a bit.

But it appears getting a visa is basically a 50-50 shot. So we shall see. If we cant, mom and dad have indicated that they might come to the wedding in the Philippines, which I kind of would love, and kind of dread.

My dream plan is to do the wedding in august, and just hang out in the phils for several months. Then go back to Memphis in December and do Christmas with my family. I havent been home for the holidays in seven years. Then we can go back to teaching somewhere in spring semester. But I am having a hard time selling her on moving again. And she finally has a good job, and is loathe to leave it.

She has 4 other guys shes stringing along the marriage boat. Thats why she is so indecisive.

Absolutely. Diamonds are the biggest scam going and anything related to a weddingbgets a huge markup. My wife picked out a moissonite lab diamond that looks better than a real one for a fraction of cost and we spent money on a dual wedding/honeymoon on a beach in Hawaii. Pennies compared to the drivel the sitcoms and rom coms convince women they HAVE to have to be happy.

I have a friend who has a diamond ring that cost 20 or 30k. She looked for a similar fake one online that she could wear when traveling. Side by side in good lighting, I can't tell them apart. The fake one cost $30. The fact that that isn't the end of the diamond industry is proof that people just want to throw money away.

Fancy pet foods

Veternarians

Truth. One time we were trying to find "good" dog food. Bought a bag of blue buffalo. High quality ingredients etc. And expensive. About 2x more than pedigree at the time.

Decided just to Google it. Found out the Costco brand is one of the best dog foods out there, according to the so called experts, and very reasonable.

Plus our dog loves it. We've never gone back.

Also bought their cat food. Also supposed to be good. Our cats w ouldnt eat it

We use Purina One True Instincts. Get it off Amazon for decent price. The people who buy the bags of dog food for $60-$80 a bag is ridiculous. Won't ever do that

Costco is $22 for 40 lbs. Course you gotta have the membership. And it's "good" food

My catahoula is somewhat picky about what he eats. We've bought him foods and he won't really eat it. This food we found with venison he loves so we have been buying that. Our lab will eat anything.

Well if you haven't tried the Costco brand I highly recommend it. Worth checking out.
