Who here is off for the MILK Holiday?

Recommended Posts

My company gives holiday pay, overtime pay for hours worked, plus another day off to make up for the lost day off. As I don't "celebrate" MLK day I opted to work. I'll have "Striketakeswhateverfockingdayhewants" off instead.

I'm off until February 26, but I doubt my bosses even know who MLK is.

They likely do. When I taught at the super-expensive private school for rich kids in Chengdu, the English book the Chinese sixth graders used had a passage on him to read in English. So he is taught over here. They may not know his birthday is a holiday in the US though.

I is. First time ever. Our hospital was bought by a larger corporation recently and they have always have it off. We normally get a February floating holiday but now thats gone and we get this instead.

I would probably rather be working to be honest. I work in the purchasing department and all of our deliveries will still be running today as normal. Tomorrow will be the suck.

Plus its currently 4 degrees out, not a whole hell of a lot to do. Casino is about a half hour away, might be time for a trip

Not me. We get Good Friday instead. I like that because the weather is much better in March/April.

Stellar. Big fan of floating holidays. Cuts down on the PC whining.

Besides, as an employer I'd rather see the office 80% staffed all the time instead of 0% staffed on certain days. It just creates more work for everybody when they return and more of a disruption to customers and counterparts.

We get Good Friday and a floating holiday to take care of any blow back about MLK day.

My wife has today off.

She is still on maternity leave and has not started working yet, but she is taking the kids to daycare and spending the day at home alone. I would absolutely love one day at home with nobody else around.

Give her a honey do list.

That list should include BBQ ribs, stopping by the beer store and a beej later..

Working for a big city dem government, youre damn right Im off. Years ago, when Lee/Jackson/King day was a "thing" back in Virginia, we separated them. We got Friday off for Lee/Jackson, and Monday for King. Nowadays, obviously, noone observes Lee-Jackson Day.

Like a few others, we had the choice between MLK and Good Friday.... I opted for the later.

I say it every year and I'll say it again. MLK day should be the Monday after the Super Bowl.

I have to burn a personal day every Super Bowl Monday
