    Raiders at Chargers: MNF Discussion

I would pump the brakes on the chargers a bit, Herbert is looking great but that charger O-line is bad. They are making the raiders front four look great. Herbert is making all his hay with the RB and TE and almost no WR action, and he has pretty good WR's. That pass rush is just getting home fast. Herbert is still getting it done and I really think he has a bright future but that O-line needs some work.

    Trey Lance

Woof the accuracy on anything downfield was bad. He can make some moves running the ball and with short passes and great WR's. Dare I hope Aiyuk and his YAC might be needed with the rookie QB accuracy issues? Lots of short dump offs and easy timing/pick routes for Deebo, Kittle and Aiyuk to use their athleticism? Am I just trying to find a bright side and salvage my single team Aiyuk stock...maybe!

    Carson and A.Collins question

I'm a homer so take it for what its worth but Carson wasn't getting anything done in the early part of the game, and Collins started making things happen in the running game in the second half. It was partly game flow in that the first half the 49ers defense DOMINATED the Seahawks. The Seahawks didn't get their first, first down till late in the second quarter it was brutal to watch. So for now I would chock it up to a weird game flow and Collins got some reps after Wilson started making some plays. If it was me in charge I would be using Collins and Carson alternating series. Collins has looked like the best back on our roster all through preseason, but still preseason scrubs ya know? But before you go adding Collins you have to remember we have a completely lame and incompetent first round pick in Penny. And he came into the season the defacto back up because our GM lacks the balls to cut a busted 1st round pick. So not a clear situation at all but if I had a deep bench I might add Collins since Carson usually gets dinged up around this time anyways. I am pretty sure Carrol has given up on Penny and we only see him out there a couple plays a game but none in the last couple weeks, but in my opinion he should have been cut in preseason instead of making the roster. Another factor and I am not much of a scheme guy but Carson is a power back which Carrol loves but our new offensive coordinator is from the Rams and to my novice eyes it looks like a one cut and go is more effective. Carson doesn't make people miss, Collins does. If somebody is knows much about blocking techniques and can weigh in on this? I suspect we are working in more zone blocking on the runs and the offensive line is playing much better this year. Or it could be we are using the stretch run play that requires a faster back? I just don't get the X's and O's of blocking but again Collins is making wickedly fast cuts, its impressive.

    2018 Auction Draft Strategy

Sigh...the initial question was unfocused and vague. The entire purpose of going with an auction draft is so everyone has an equal chance at every player in the draft. So when you post about auction strategy and ask for advice we are naturally going to assume you mean tips and tricks for how to draft within that style and get the players you want. So if your asking what players to draft then you can go with either a ranking site (I recommend this one) or pick the players you want to root for. Personally I am always a sucker for the physical freaks of the NFL, when I hear people start talking about size/speed ratio and freaks of nature those are the guys I want on my team.

    [ ** OFFICIAL 2018 SOILOST RANKINGS ** ]

Love it but I believe I am detecting a Funchess fanatic here. I think he was on this list last year too. Are you related? The built in FF team names is a nice hidden gem that takes the Soilost rankings to the next level! Bravo!
  6. I'm a Keenan Allen fan the guy is amazing to watch play. Still I love RB's that catch passes in ppr so: McCaffery, Allen, Adams
  7. What about Royce Freeman for the Broncos? I kind of am intrigued by the size and dancing feet. Hogan is a good pick but he is going to scream up the adp in the next week and lose a lot of value. I think their might be some value in San Francisco, no one is talking about them and Garopplo looked kind of amazing last year. No idea who that would be but their a rising team not many people are talking about. We need some homer insight.

    Derrick Henry vs. Jay Ajayi

Ugh tougher than I thought. I am a fan of Henry's and think its a make or break year for him. Also Philadelphia lost their offensive coordinator that designed and called a lot of very good run plays. Between that and the superbowl hangover I can see Ajayi having a down year. Ajayi's floor is better and Henry's ceiling is better but I am a bit blinded at the moment with my desire to see Henry do well. Shoot I talked myself into Ajayi and I feel dirty about it.

    Let's play "Which first two?"

B even though I am not in love with Julio. I am somewhat leary of Odell that was a pretty nasty injury and he is making noise about his contract too? Add in I think McCaffery is one of the RB's that will dissapoint his draft position. My logic of him disappointing is flimsy at best but here goes: he loses the goal line touches, he's smaller than I would like, I am not sure he gets over 220 touches. For my final unassailable bit of logic...I just don't trust him or see a special NFL player. He's a very good player but not on the level of Odell, Julio or even Kareem Hunt. I like Kareem Hunt and the boom/bust of Julio with him.

    2018 Auction Draft Strategy

I would spend the money to get one or two guys you really believe in. My preferred strategy is as follows: I like to blow 2/3 to 3/4 of my budget for an elite RB/RB/WR or RB/WR/WR combo and then value shop. If you do this you will be twiddling your thumbs and bidding up other players for the next 30 players or so. It can get boring but you have to stay focused since a nice value target can drop into your lap at anytime. It sounds crazy to fill out the remaining 10-15 spots with only 3/4 of your budget but I have been able to fairly consistently do this over several years of auction drafts. The real value time is late in the draft and having like 20-30 bucks is often enough to get a fairly talented roster once everyone else exhausts their funds. Some Tips: 1. The first guy in the draft and in most tiers is often a slight steal. Everyone is usually seeing what the price will be set at for #1WR or #1RB. 2. Tiers are massively important. You need to have a list and no how much you will spend for each tier of elite players. The last guys at a particular tier can often go for more than a higher ranked player simply due to supply and demand. 3. I tend not to nominate guys I want but wait for them to pop up. This can be a bit nerve wracking. 4. If you have team managers not present the autodraft can drive you bonkers but you can load these teams up with overpriced injury prone players. It feels a bit dirty but they are screwing up a real fun way to draft by not being there. Good luck and embrace the auction its hellafun!

    G-Men: P-L-E-A-S-E don't pull a "Browns"-type move ..

I thought they should have traded down if the option was available myself as I believe this team is multiple players away from a superbowl. Having said that, Dave Gettleman did an amazing job in Carolina and I trust him more than most GM's. I'm still a little unclear on why he was fired to begin with. The story I heard was he angered the players by not giving Norman or Olsen big money contracts. Isnt that kind of a big part of being the GM so the players have a target that isn't the coach or owner? I'm kind of suspicious after recent reports that maybe he walked in to find the Owner banging an intern?

Instant Fantasy Analysis - QB Baker Mayfield, Browns

I don't know about this draft. I actually like Mayfield but to come away without Barkley or Chubb? I mean its ballsy of Dorsey since he basically called his shot and flipped off the world but wow this is the kind of decisions that get you fired in one year instead of two or three like most GM's get.

Instant Fantasy Analysis - RB Rashaad Penny, Seahawks

Ugh I am not going to pretend this pick makes any sense what a waste of draft capital. Anyone could take one look at the team and see the offensive line is the worst unit in the entire NFL. Carson and Davis are actually pretty good running backs but when they are hit full speed in the backfield and have to spin and juke just to get to the line of scrimmage of course there going to end up with concussions and destroyed knees. What really hurts is the O-line should take a step forward with Brown and Fant around for a full season, and a plug and play guard or versatile linemen would go along way to stabilizing it and giving it a chance of becoming a strength for the team. Add in the holes that have sprung up all over the defense and I would have preferred they traded back and got another pick. IN FACT I STRONGLY SUSPECT THEY WANTED TO AND RAN OUT OF TIME AND SAID WHILE SHOOT HERES WHO WE WANTED IN THE THIRD.

Wow what the hell happened in that London game? The Jaguars lit them up? The Jaguars?

    What to do w/ Russell

If you can get Wentz then I would do that in a heartbeat. It's not that Wentz is better than Wilson but any QB with modest talent that throws it 40+ times a game is going to be a fantasy stud. Seattle homer here and I love Wilson but our offensive coordinator is a moron and Carroll is obsessed with power running ball control offense even when we don't have the personnel to implement it. Through two games there is a situation that comes up continously and the Seattle offense looks much better in, the 2min drill. Until the light goes on and they add some up tempo packages or the O-line improves the offense is a fantasy wasteland. Carson and Baldwin are the only two Seahawks I would want on my roster.
