Anyone use a probiotic?

Recommended Posts

I have been having some pretty bad side pains. Doc did a ct and said i have colitus. Have to do a follow-up with a gastrointestinal doc. But i cant get in for a month. Now. This has been bad enough to alter my life. Seriously. I dont sleep well. Im in pain every single day.

I started taking a non dairy pro biotic called goodbelly. I cant even explain how much better i feel. Like normal. Its been fantastic. If you are having any gut problems check this out. Its a wonder.

CT overdiagnoses colitis, but assuming you actually had it, probiotics may help. They're better as a preventative measure than treatment though. And the purity/quality is highly variable. Culturelle is a decent brand: https://www.culturelle.com

The real question is, why do you have colitis?

If the CT findings are legit, prepare for a camera up the a$$. Unless your symptoms have completely resolved.

Agreed. But dont use an eggplant for preparation. Start with a finger, work your way up to a carrot, and then the last week you should be using a pringles can. Good luck!

Why?

I think I've told this story before. Got food poisoning a few years ago. Like shitting black, horrible sulfure burps for a few days food poisoning...

Since then I couldn't drink beer... 2-3 beers my stomach would swell up.. horrible gas.. horrible bloating... felt like my stomach was going to burst.

Went to a doc.. told me food poisoning kilt all the good gut bacteria.. take culturelle 2x a day for a awhile. Seemed to work.. but after awhile I quit taking it.. I'd get bloaty.

Now if I fon't take it for awhile I get bloaty again.. take it consistantly.. first few days I piss out my ass, but then its smoove sailing.

I try to take one a day.. but I will forget.. or be out of town.. so.. daily when I remember is a few times a week probably.

Anyway it also turned me off to beer.. I bet I have less than 12 beers a year now.

Hey pen. Could food poisoning cause colitus? I got really sick from eating at costco around the time this all started.

Colitis (technically, enterocolitis) can definitely be a food-borne illness. Usually symptoms begin about three days after a meal, but the disease typically runs its course within a week or so. If you've had colitis for much longer than that, it probably isn't due to infection or food poisoning. The one exception is colitis due to Clostridium difficile, which relapses about 20-25% of the time.

Colitis is a lazy diagnosis, it is what docs diagnose when patients present stomach/intestinal issues and they need a catch-all answer to make it seem like they know what the hell they are talking about.

I know I'm supposed to use a probiotic every time, but it just doesn't feel as good.

But definitely if it's some skank I don't know.

It's a real diagnosis, but only a general term. There are many specific causes which may need to be excluded - infection, inadequate blood flow to the intestines and inflammatory bowel disease are the main ones. And CT tends to over diagnose it.

The real lazy diagnoses are the ones doctors say are all in your head, due to stress, etc. ;)

Don't use the barbecue Pringles. You'll be wiping your ass for a week.

I hear.
