People that hunt and fish tend to be republican.....

Recommended Posts

Measure Title: A bill to protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, and shooting, and for other purposes.

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=113&session=2&vote=00220

Not a single republican voted for the bill. The bill was beneficial for hunters and fisherman across the board. It would have opened up more land, and it would have also reduced the power of the federal government to regulate some species(mainly red snapper).

Democrats, protecting the rights of hunters and fishermen :dunno:

I like fishing. Catch and release only, tho.

I don't think I could kill Bambi unless survival dictated it.

What my above statement has to do with your link, I have no idea. Just wanted people to look at me, I guess.

I like fishing...mostly catch and release.

But don't mind catching for food either. Just a pain to deal with them while wading in a river for a few hours.

I've never been hunting, and I'm not much into fishing, but I have no problem with people who enjoy either.

The only thing I can think of that conservatives would oppose in the bill would be spending money.

Is there a rider on there somewhere that the Republicans appose? Politicians do play games...

Yea...Totally understand that.

Mainly why I like Bass fishing so much. Fockers put up a great fight and don't kill themselves in the process of being caught like some trout do.

I miss my boat

A wise one you are.

Actually, no but that's not the full story for why the GOP voted against it.

What Republicans did object to was that none of their amendments to the bill (which were mostly related to guns' rights) were allowed to be voted on. They accuse Sen Reid of abusing his authority as majority leader to protect vulnerable red-state Dems from taking highly politically charged votes on these amendments. Reid's position was the GOP were trying to pack the bill with a slew of amendments designed to kill the bill.

Reid used a procedural tactic that ran the bill straight through as-is and stripped of any GOP input.

Blame who you want. Both sides point fingers at the other one and even popular bills can't pass. This is how our Congress operates in 2014.

Truth

Nobody's right if everybody's wrong should be on a banner hanging in the Capital building.

Smart move by Reid. He effectively killed the bill while voting for it. Win-win.

Somebody has trouble following along :(

West coasters and their grasp of politics.

I think most grasp it fine...the GOP tried to attach a bunch of crap to the bill. Seems most would agree it was the GOP who killed the bill.

Not that the other side is innocent in doing the same types of things...but on the surface, blaming Reid on this one seems quite funny.

Where did I blame Reid? He pulled a savvy move. Do you seriously think Reid was going to allow a hunting/fishing bill sponsored by a Republican to pass? Instead he gets to take credit for backing it while essentially destroying it. That my friends is politics.

republicans like killing things after they are born.

That is why they are against abortion. More children to kill and send to fight their wars

liberals are hysterical. they are too limp wristed to hunt or fish. they rather tack up save the rainbow forest posters and drink lattes.

the best are the loons that are like "save the animals" "fishing hurts the fish" ...then go out for sushi in their hipster leather shoes

How did Reid destroy the bill? The bill would have been great for sportsmen, especially gulf coast fishermen.

Neither texas senator voted for the bill. They would rather make a point than support their constituents.

Interesting...one of my best friends is quite liberal. Hunts all sorts of things and loves to fish as well.

I don't hunt much (not out of any real philosophical reasoning...just don't have a need to) but love to fish. Lean left socially on most things...right on fiscal issues.

One of the biggest problems with a two party system is that many people don't fit into one of them.

or the idiots that blindly follow the party line.

we all know it's impossible to agree 100% with everything one party stands for.

Yet so many morons tow the party line

If you put social issues, especially the fake outrage ones like war on women and gays before fiscal when voting, you just might be a complete idiot.

No not might, you are a complete idiot.

This fact of the day brought to you by me.

You're welcome.

Why are most of your crying complaints on this board about social issues?

Very few times are their threads that are actually fiscal issues here.

Seems those social issues are quite important to you.

BTW...did anyone actually say they just social issues ahead of anything when voting?

That'd be less funny if the Repubtards didn't dive head first into 'social issues' as soon as they're elected, instead of anything fiscal.

U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 113th Congress - 2nd Session

as compiled through Senate LIS by the Senate Bill Clerk under the direction of the Secretary of the Senate

Vote Summary Question: On the Cloture Motion (Motion to Invoke Cloture on S. 2363 ) Vote Number: 220 Vote Date: July 10, 2014, 11:47 AM Required For Majority: 3/5
Vote Result: Cloture Motion Rejected Measure Number: S. 2363 (Bipartisan Sportsmen's Act of 2014 ) Measure Title: A bill to protect and enhance opportunities for recreational hunting, fishing, and shooting, and for other purposes. Vote Counts: YEAs 41 NAYs 56 Not Voting 3

Cloture or closure is a concept in parliamentary procedure, which is the backbone of government in many nations of the world. If a motion for cloture passes, debate on the topic at hand must end, and a vote is taken immediately. The concept can be used to defeat filibusters, and it is also used to move voting along, or to avoid the introduction of amendments which are not relevant to the bill at hand. The process of cloture in most parliamentary bodies is closely outlined in their rules of conduct.

this vote seems to say that a cloture motion was suggested by the democrats and did not pass. that simply means that an immediate vote cannot be taken. am i reading all that correctly? it doesn't appear that republicans rejected the sportsman act of 2014, it appears they voted to reject the cloture motion on the sportsman act of 2014. yes?
