MDC 5,890 Posted December 16, 2016 run along, you're missing America's Got Talent Well if I have to prove my boner fires, some of my favorite directors are Hitchcock, Kubrik, Kurosawa, Bergman and Weir. New(er) directors I like are Lynch, Michael Haneke, the Coen Bros, Ang Lee etc. I have never watched Americas Got Talent in my life. I don't like Nolan because his movies look good but his stories are terrible, and the tone of all of them is po-faced grim self seriousness. He is the definition of pretentious. And I say that as a guy who likes a lot of movies you could call "pretentious." You like him, that's fine. You should be secure enough in your own tastes to not need my validation. MDC 5,890 Posted December 16, 2016 Not everyone can achieve the storytelling greatness of Human Centipede I wouldn't call HC great or even good but it was more entertaining than most Nolan movies I've seen and only half as long.

wiffleball 4,639 Posted June 28, 2017 From what I understand, Nolan certainly has his detractors. I was actually more impressed with Interstellar than I normally would be with that kind of film. I mean, it's no "I spit on your grave", but still...

And hey, since we're playing fast and loose with gender, race and sexuality, why couldn't Tupac be cast with Ken Jeung?
Djgb13 2,338 Posted June 28, 2017 Always thought 'Roots' didn't have enough white representation too. And hey, since we're playing fast and loose with gender, race and sexuality, why couldn't Tupac be cast with Ken Jeung? Because Tupac was "a real person" while these others were fictional so they can be any race/gender they want. Same goes for Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming being played by Zendaya who is a black girl with no red hair. Makes no sense since Mary Jane is iconic for her red hair and white skin but their argument is "it's a fictional character so she can be whatever race they want". But God forbid we make the guy who is the black panther white. They would have a focking stroke and shoot up the neighborhoods (though they would probably miss cause they can't shoot for sh1t)
wiffleball 4,639 Posted June 28, 2017 Point being, Dunkirk didn't have many blechs. That's just a historical fact. That's as much a fact as Tupac wasn't a Chink.

Filthy Fernadez 2,696 Posted August 10, 2017 Saw Dunkirk Tuesday. Really good movie with great acting.
wiffleball 4,639 Posted August 10, 2017 I'll admit, I'm one of those Americans who really didn't know the story of Dunkirk - nor how iconic and as much a part of the collective national pride of the English. The story in and of itself is (without movie) is pretty damn amazing.
IGotWorms 3,311 Posted September 24, 2017 Finally saw this the other day. Good focking movie. Very good. Wish they would've discussed the French sacrifice a little more but I get that wouldn't have necessarily fit the movie.
