    NFL Flag Football

So I volunteered to be an ASSISTANT coach for my step-son's flag football team. We had the coaches meeting the other night and the other coach for our team no-showed...turns out he's a first-year guy too, so chances are I'm going to be the head coach. Coaching a 7-player flag football team of 9 year old boys, we have 4 basic formations to build plays off of. I figure we'll run 1 rushing play and 1 passing play off each formation for 8 total plays, maybe mix in a reverse on the Trips set. So my question is...is this too much to ask from 9 year olds? I have no idea what to expect. This is a fundamental league, learn to catch the ball correctly, pass, carry...beyond that it's all fun. One of those "we don't keep score" leagues. I keep reading from online flag football leagues where they're designing plays and naming them "trips left 999 replace" complete with passing and rushing trees and all the rest. This just seems too advanced to me. Am I wrong? I can see building a large playbook for me and then trying to install the plays on the fly, street ball style..."Jimmy pass it to Tommy...Tommy, you go deep" but I don't see that as being all that much fun. Either way, games start on September 20, so we basically will have time for 2 or 3 practices before games start. Probalby shouldn't expect much either way.

    Calvin Johnson & Jeremy Shockey

Rest of my team: QB: KWarner / DGarrard RB: MTurner / PThomas / LJohnson / LMcClain / FTaylor / JNorwood WR: CJohnson / CChambers / DeseanJackson / DMason / CHenry TE: DKeller / JShockey Any player drafted in the first 3 rounds can't be kept next year, regardless of team. I can't keep PThomas, CJohnson or MTurner next year. I could keep Colston and the fantasy numbers for Colston and Johnson are pretty similar. That's the temptation for me.

Need Help with Trade - Harvin / Carlson for Avery / Clark

I wouldn't make the trade either, but I always talk myself out of trades. Carlson is expected to put up good numbers this year and is high on a lot of boards. I wouldn't even think of trading away Anthony Gonzales at this point. I'm really high on him and missed him in both my drafts by a total of 3 picks. He's a number 2 in an offense that puts up numbers year after year. And to the point of "helping him out". I know leagues are always set up with friends, but no way do I make a "nice" trade to help a guy out. If he wants something, make him come to you. You have the upper hand and can dictate the terms of the trade. Don't cut yourself down just to build another guys team up a little.

OK here's a trade in another league.... I get: Marques Colston and Antonio Gates for Calvin Johnson and Jeremy Shockey. Yahoo scoring, 1 pt every 20, 6 for TDs....Rules state I can't keep Johnson next year, so getting Colston isn't a bad move, major upgrade to Gates over Shockey. Would give me Dustin Keller and Gates as my TEs

    Calvin Johnson & Jeremy Shockey

Would you make this trade? Typical yahoo league scoring, 10 teams. Johnson and Colston are pretty similar projected, Gates is a huge upgrade for me.....input? Oh yeah....league rules say I can't keep Calvin Johnson next year. Colston could be kept. I'll answer yours.

When did announcers become so pro-Favre?

If you watch the play, before the camera even follows the ball to the receiver you can tell he just chucked it up in his ol' "gunslinger" style...back foot, eyes not even on the target...just heave-ho. My first thought before the play even ended was "if that was a rookie, they'd be all over him for making bad decisions"...then came the slob-knobbing....I almost couldn't believe it. It's kind of like when Prince or someone comes out with an album that absolutely sucks and all the critics can say is how "he's a genius". Maybe he'll retire next year.

Since you asked for a follow up....here's my draft results: KEEP: Drew Brees KEEP: Ladanian Tomlinson 01.10 : TJ Houshmandzadeh 03.03 : Tony Gonzalez 05.10 : Dominik Hixon 06.05 : Julius Jones 07.03 : Tim Hightower 07.10 : Tampa Bay Buccs 08.05 : Muhsin Muhammad 09.10 : Earnest Graham 10.05 : Joe Flacco 11.10 : Bo Scaife 12.05 : Davone Bess 12.10 : New Orleans Saints 13.10 : Lawrence Tynes 14.05 : Byron Leftwich 15.10 : Miles Austin 16.05 : Maurice Morris 17.10 : Demetrius Williams 18.05 : Jeff Reed 19.10 : Keenan Burton There were 5 players I wanted to draft...I got one of them..Devone Bess. Leaving the draft, in spite of not get anyone I had my eye on pre-draft, I felt pretty good. I spent quite a bit of time prepping for the draft getting different cheatsheets arranged, laying out where I felt the sleepers were, guys I didn't want to take at all...all the good stuff I guess. Then I get home from the draft. Rotoworld: Devone Bess upstaged by Hartline. Dominik Hixon overvalued in most drafts, Hakeem Nicks gets "prime consideration"... I didn't even want to draft Julius Jones, but at the time it was either him, Fred Jackson or Sammy Morris. Rotoworld: Julius Jones...unimpressive. Demetrius Williams...nagging injuries....WR3 at best. Maurice Morris....Jerome Felton will get 2nd quarter carries.... And on down the line. I'd say a combination of lack of sleep, wind blowing paperwork around, external noise and general chaos going on around me led to a less than stellar draft. Every player I had my "eye on" pre-draft went within 3 picks of me getting to them. Every_Single_Player. The draft was running about 1000 miles an hour and ironically, by the 4th round I thought it was the 5th round. I had two picks in the 7th round and didn't even realize I had made two picks in one round until the 8th round. Players were flying off the board so fast I didn't even have time to mark them off the list, which isn't a big deal when it's the 10th round or later when everyone struggles to find a name they recognize. To me, the later rounds are the rounds that should go faster...players left are spread out, you're filling RB4, RB5 and WR6 slots on your roster...everyone's got a few sleepers that are deep in a draft. But when it's early in the draft and one pick is a top 30 running back, then two seconds later a top 20 wide receiver goes, then 5 seconds later someone reaches two rounds early for another wide receiver....8 seconds later it's my pick and I'm still marking off names. It's easy to say who cares, take your time...but when everyone and everything is running 1000 miles an hour it's not that easy. At least not for me. Either that or like I said in my initial post...I don't know what the f0ck I'm doing. I'm pretty sure at this point I'm retiring from Fantasy Football after this year. I've got that Bret Favre syndrome...been feeling less and less into it the last few years but keep sticking it out despite disappointment after disappointment. I'm sure I'll be back again next year to throw away more money, but the end is near.

which tight end would you rather have?

As far as tight ends go, I'd take Alyssa Milano. I drafted Dustin Keller too early in one of my leagues and keep reading that he might be a top talent by the end of the year. Shockey and Miller are in great systems for tight ends and could easily go either way.

    Cuse9's Help Thread

This is honestly what I planned on doing the more I thought about draft strategies. The big problem I'm seeing with drafting WR/WR or WR/TE with my first 2 picks is when it comes around to my 56th overall pick I'm still sitting with LT2 as my only RB. It might be possible to get Donald Brown at 56...other possibles I see still being there would be Lendale White, Ahmaad Bradshaw, Jonathan Stewart, Hightower or even Darren Sproles....just not sure if any of those provide me with the punch I need at RB2. It's a deep league and last year I feel like I sold myself short by drafting a mediocre team with decent players at every position...ending up with not enough depth to make a beneficial trade. "I need a WR, trade a RB...now I need a RB" type thing. This is where I figure I'll either completely bone myself or find a steal. I've got two 7th round picks and two 12th round picks. I'd like to be in a position to be able to take a risk on someone by the 7th round and not be in a position of "need" at any specific starting position. WR/WR in the 1st and 3rd, RB in the 5th, Team/Defense in the 6th. My biggest worry in the draft is what seems to be a lack of depth at RB...not only available to my team, but the league as a whole. Everything is still up in the air at this point...still researching when I can. Thanks for the help.

14-team, 2 man keeper. I think you know the rules and scoring.... Top 5 QBs left (based on FFToday Projections): McNabb, Warner, Rivers, Romo, Schaub Top 5 RBs left : Barber, Jacobs, Thomas, Smith, Larry Johnson Top 5 WRs left : Calvin, Jennings, Colston, Roy Williams, TJHoush I'm keeping Brees and Tomlinson and have the 13th pick in the first round and no pick again until the 24th overall in the 3rd round. I have no 4th round pick and my 5th round pick is the 59th overall pick. I will assume that by my 1st pick the top 6 QBs, top 17 RBs and top 10 WRs will be gone (based again on FFT projections). Plan A: With the 13th pick I can either go for a #2 RB and target Larry Johnson, Darren McFadden or Derrick Ward, then come back with the 24th pick and get Desean Jackson, Bernard Berrian or Anthony Gonzalez. Plan B: Target Wes Welker or Houshmandzadeh with the 13th pick and possibly target Reggie Bush or Thomas Jones at 24. Plan C: Go for Welker/Housh at 13, Jackson/Berrian/Gonzalez at 24 and maybe get Jonathan Stewart.... Hell I don't know. I'm starting to think I really suck at fantasy football. Help me out. What would you do?

    What's the word in KC?

Most depth charts have Mark Bradley listed as the number 2 guy in Kansas City, but they brought in Amani Toomer recently. You gotta figure that Toomer is there to compete for the job....just wondering if any KC homers have any inside information on the battle.
