****Official 60s Music Draft**** (Complete)

Recommended Posts

I just checked my email. My sister hasn't gotten back to me with word from my mom. I think maybe we can drop her.

We will just kinda skip her from now. Then she can make catch up picks.

ATTENTION: For now. Mrs. Voltaire will be used for Disco Duck type picks.

Rules.

No songs from the 60s.

You have to talk like Mrs. Voltaire when making the nomination.

I will judge the best ones for that round. Nominations are accepted through out the draft.

Gutterboy's Mrs. Voltaire was supposed to be my Chinese wife. My mother is Sicilian-American.

Deep deep draft. Youll be picking all time classics well into rounds 4-5.

Unlike Joe Pesci's character in Goodfellas, Sicilians can take a joke.

I watched those Dean Martin celebrity roasts as a kid in the 70s. Frank Sinatra and Deano taught me how to how to take a Sicilian joke, just like Sammy Davis Jr and Wilt Chamberlain took black jokes or Don Rickles Jewish ones.

You laugh along with the guy if they're funny jokes and most were. Then you insult the guy back. Then you all go and have drinks together. They were all in on it, slamming each other but it was with love and it was a good fun time. No PC sh*tbags around to cry or complain.

Those were great. Don Rickles is one of my all time favorites.

It's quarter to nine in China. TBBOM should wake up any time.

Wasn't he traveling back home from Laos today? I say we skip him sooner or later. :dunno:

Well hell, your today is my yesterday. Or my today is your tomorrow. Or something...

So your saying that he hasn't checked in because he's still in yesterday.

What do you think? He's pretty good about being here by now. It makes sense that he is traveling

I'm gonna make the call. If he could be here, he would be. He has shown that he does not want to hold up the draft. Let's keep this rolling and turn the corner into Round 2. Volti. It's your pick.

This was another I considered at my spot. Just a great song.

Damn. You guys gutted my list...

1.14 - Stand By Me - Ben E. King

King never intended to record this song. He originally wrote it for the Drifters, who passed. While in the studio recording, he had extra studio time, and he threw this out there.

It ended up becoming the 6th highest earning song of all time.

No worries. I'm back in China btw. You can text me if my turn is up.

I don't want to do this with lists if possible. The 90's draft was no fun that way.

1.16 Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Fogerty put out a project a few years ago where he rerecorded a bunch of CCR classics with other artists,if you're interested here's the version of Fortunate Son with him and Dave Grohl.

I'm going to share this story, please be kind. My older daughter always wanted to be a singer, specifically in musical theater. She honestly just didn't have what it took to make a career out of it. However, she always liked this song, and her school had a classic rock talent show, she practiced this a lot more than anything else I remember, and it came out... pretty good, in the opinion of a proud dad. Some iffy notes here and there, but this was the best musical performance she had in HS.

Good stuff!

Sound of Silence, Sympathy for the Devil, House of the Rising Sun, and Change Is Gonna Come are four songs that were on my list for this pick. I'm surprised none of them made it to me.

The fiancee and I are trying to pick a wedding first dance song. I'm trying to sell her on this one, rather than some new pop ed sheerhan type thing.

Ed has some serious chops, but this is a better way to go.

She was listening to a cover version by some chick. I suggested we use it (planning on swapping the original in later of course). She said she needs to look at the lyrics first. I'm sure they'll pass muster.

No. But thanks for the reminder. Ive got an hour on the road to take my sons to a baseball camp tomorrow. We can listen to it on the way there, then the Fogerty project on the way back.
