3D-printed gun

Recommended Posts

3D-printed gun blueprints can be downloaded starting next month, ending lengthy legal battle

Blueprints for 3D-printed guns can be downloaded next month following a landmark Department of Justice settlement with Second Amendment advocates.

Defense Distributed, a non-profit defense firm, will offer the blueprints for download starting Aug. 1 following a multi-year legal battle with the federal government.

So, is there anybody that can honestly say this is a good thing?

Its fine if they dont have ammunition. The problem is they can easily get the ammunition

Lol what Im saying is its a bad idea.

On another note, apparently its hella expensive to get a printer with the capabilities of making one of these guns. Still, bad idea

Bad people do bad things. This will change nothing.

ETA - it's already super easy to make a gun at home, but you probably didn't even know that

I do know.. but the same can't be said of a gun with no metal parts that can not be detected with a metal detector

Won’t a gun made of whatever that stuff is just melt when it’s fired off a few times? Stuff gets really hot.

The ammunition would set it off. Also, dogs are trained to sniff gun powder and explosives. They could pick it up

Still, its a bad idea. Reason being not only the ease of getting one but they wont have serial numbers on them so they are untraceable

Amunition would set it off in a walk through but it would be very easy to disguise in a carry on/ checked bag. And I don't fly a lot but I have never had my canny on sniffed by a dog

No the ammunition in carry ons are easy to detect. Scanner picks those up easily. I had to get trained on one when in the military during my deployment. At least the one we had could easily detect it.

Since you have experience and I have none... In a packed carry on bag how can u see the difference between let's say a rifle cartridge and a metal lip stick dispenser..

I'm curious how they show differently

You can actually see stuff in the scanner. It penetrates all kinds of stuff. For ammunition you can actually see the shape of it on the screen. Naturally, if you suspect something youll pull the bag out and inspect it. So if a metal lipstick dispenser pops up but you dont know thats what it is you just take the bag out and inspect it. But most of the time you can see through containers. Google airport bag scanner images and youll see what Im talking about.

Edit: nvm here you go. Page wouldnt pull up to where I could look at the images but its working now

They are different... i fly armed monthly.. at times they've asked if they could run my bag through to test the guys.

Lol...this is a perfect example of omg...the end is near....we are doomed...

I can make a zip gun that shoots shotgun shells for under 10 bucks.

I dont need no 3d printer to put a hole in someone if I am so inclined.

Who gives a sheeit they can print a 3d gun?

Too impractical

I imagine that criminal organizations that do a good bit of killing would be highly interested in an untraceable gun that can easily be destroyed.

I imagine that the idea of a gun that doesnt set of metal detectors would interest terrorists and such.

Its a horrible idea. There is no good reason for it. But it doesnt matter, Im sure the blueprints are easily available on the dark web anyway.
