Why do I see the Jags picking a WR in the 1st round everywhere ?

Recommended Posts

I know they may lose Lee, and not sure what going on with Robinson... Why would they give up both ? and even if they both left, look who they still have ? They have to be the deepest at WR than any other team. Westbrook will become the # 1. Can you imagine him with Robinson ? The other younsters are pretty good. Why do they project a WR ????????????????? Anyone, anyone, Brueler, Bueler ?

Because it's a projection

Because it's a projection

of course it is, i just question the projection. Hopefully the projections reflect a teams needs... 1st rounder ? Starter ?. They are good everywhere, especially WR, maybe get a stud TE. The way they are set up, I would drop down and get picks.

And that might be what they do.

Just imagine how dangerous that team would be if they added a stud WR?

I can see them getting a WR but they could take something else too.

Would agree,,I don't see a true wr1 on the Jags.

2016 A Robinson finshed as a wr2 in ppr.

He drops a lot of balls.

So the projection of them taking a wr1 is a good one.

Been super busy during the football season, but finally back to the message board!

But for this topic, the defense is stacked, Allen Robinson is a free agent, have the future at RB in Leonard Fournette, and if they decide to address QB - it's likely they'd do so in a trade or free agency rather than a first-round pick.

Still too early for mock drafts since we haven't even entered the beginning of free agency, but the reasons listed above may be why you're seeing a RD1 WR

They just drafted Dede Westbrook and Keelan Cole and both look legit, and they have Allen Hurns, bam that's 3 very good to maybe 1 great WRs there, and maybe they resign Robinson or Lee. I don't see a WR in the first round for the Jags, but who knows.

I don't see it either. It'd be dumb IMO....Only time you do that if you're the Jags after a season like this is when you have a top 10 pick and the WR is basically guaranteed to be a stud...

They should continue adding pieces to the best defense in the league, maybe OL...

A playmaking TE would help too, but that wouldn't be until later in the draft.

Te later in the draft is a good move.

But if a wr that could be a wr1 would make for a good addition.

I agree with this. I think they target OL or DL (because you can never have enough). They also might take a QB. I could see a scenario where one of the projected top 5 drop.

With Smith going to Washington, that opens up Cousins to fill a spot somewhere (I think Denver). I have a feeling Minnesota re-signs Keenum and the 49ers have Garoppolo. That pretty much leaves Cleveland, NYJ (I don't think the Giants are going to take a QB... I think they stick with Eli for a few more years), Arizona, and Buffalo. Could the Dolphins or Giants take a QB? Sure, I just don't think they will.

The Jags pick 29 in the first round so any projection is far reaching.

Hurns has a tricky contract that he signed in 2016. Jacksonville would not take on any dead money against the cap if they cut him before he is due a $4 million roster bonus in 2018 and also has a $6.9 million salary.

Robinson and Lee will not be tagged and will be looking for more money than the Jags have to offer. The Jags are one of the teams with the least wiggle room on the cap this year. They need cap space.

I think they try and keep at least one of Lee or ARob, and likely cut Hurns unless he takes a reduced deal.

Agreed. I believe Hurns is cut, and Lee gets a big deal elsewhere. They resign Arob, and him, Westbrook and Cole are the top 3.

At 29, I can see them drafting Andrews.

I'd be surprised but as previously mentioned they are picking 29 so anything is really fair game at that point.

Keep adding to that offensive line, rb core, or qb. I thought Keelan Cole had a pretty good year for being an unknown before the season

I keep hearing that this is a down year for WR, so the value will probably be somewhere else at their pick.

I think given the performance of the Defense, it is difficult to imagine them drafting any position for the defense in the first 1-2 rounds.

They have a stud RB.

That does not leave many positions to fill

either you draft a WR, a QB, or a spot on the O line, or TE.

most of the time you dont need to use a first round pick on a TE.

If you think Bortles Job is secure, (yes, that's a big If) you now are looking at an O lineman or a WR in round 1.

Both are reasonable in terms of need.

Wr is the sexy pick and that's likely why you see so many projections with them taking a WR.

We recently previewed the offseason in the AFC South and discussed the Jaguars/their first-round pick in case anyone wants to take a listen!

But I'm leaning offensive line for the Jags in the first round, especially with the extension for Bortles

Receiver becomes a need if Robinson and Lee aren't re-signed, but I think they'll bring Robinson back & I'm not sure there will be a WR available at their current spot in the first round to garner that high of a selection
