Dont have to cook anything this year. My BIL, the one who owns the restaurant chain, said hes cooking everything so dont bring anything. Only thing my dad does need to bring is collards (dad learned how to cut and cook them from my buddys old black grandma). Excited to see what he makes. Last year he brought pork belly burnt ends. Year before was lamb chops.

Same BIL with terminal canacer or the other one?

Change of plans. My BIL is hosting Thanksgiving at Augusta. Thats a lot further from Fishtown but its worth it.

Havent planned actual TGiving day meal yet.

Looking to do something different this year. Not sure what yet.

But I will buy a turkey the day after for 1/2 the price and smoke it on Sunday.

Just asked the wife, nothing exotic:

Turkey

Stuffing

Mashed taters

Green bean casserole

Will open a good bottle of wine or two from our Napa trip. Also my vegan daughter will probably make some dessert. Anyone know a good vegan dessert recipe?

I don't cook, but there are a lot of good pre-made vegan desserts at Whole Foods. There's a flourless dark chocolate cake and pudding-like desserts made from tofu or avocado. And cashew milk ice cream is delicious

Other one. BIL with cancer is going to NY during thanksgiving. Every other year they do that so they can watch the Macys day parade

We are smoking pork belly and baking strawberry rhubarb pie.

Not traditional, but damn good.

Thanks but she wants to make it. She found a recipe for a salted caramel apple pie. I like all of those words so hopefully it goes well. :)

Yeah, its pretty easy to make fruity vegan desserts. I bet you won't even miss the suffering.

I'll work that day and the next. Nobody here celebrates Thanksgiving, including my foreign coworkers for the most part, as they are mostly brits. The wife doesn't either obviously.

We Wil go buy our Christmas tree and decorate this weekend I guess.

Pretty much all the usual, the only thing that's a little off traditional is a chocolate pie with chocolate graham cracker crust, cool whip and chocolate sprinkles.

Pretty excited. This year, we've decided to forgo the traditional turkey.

We're actually going to try Swan. The other, other white meat.

I already got dibs on the neck!

Swan is dark meat. Taste much like liver. I can tell you that putting it in a slow cooker is NOT the way you want to prepare it.

I got this stuffed turkey thing thing from Trader Joe's, because it's only a few of us, and we're heading out to Palm Springs the next morning. Don't want a crap-load of leftovers sitting in the fridge for a week.

https://www.traderjoes.com/digin/post/turkey-stuffing-en-croute

Will make some taters and green beans to go with it.

Wow, looks yummy.

We aren't going anywhere but my shamed wife got a 20 lb turkey this year because I'm all about the leftovers, and last year she got some teeny 12 pounder.

I was slow to respond to the group text of the ladies in the family coordinating things. I usually cover dessert but that's covered now. There is room to contribute an appetizer. It has to be fast but hopefully...you know, good :D I'm considering herbed goat cheese polenta bites. Something even quicker but magically good (calling bier) would be even better though.

well, I am magically good and as fast as how enthusiastic my partner is.

seriously- what are you looking for?

are you making it and taking it you with you..reheat there?

cooking it there?

want a cold app?

how many people?

i would tie in "thanksgiving themed" items, but make them less traditional

j/k..

Taking it there (so reheating if best)

No real preference between hot/cold

7 adults, 3 kids (+baby)

The other appetizer is meat heavy so something with little or no meat would be good.

Kinda attracted to using polenta.

go with the polenta bites you mentioned. make a sheet of firm polenta, get yourself some molds or cut small shapes, reheat when you get there then top them with a little pesto, tapenade, or tomato relish.

This is the recipe I was eyeing https://www.thekitchn.com/appetizer-recipe-herbed-goat-cheese-polenta-bites-187012... pan fry after refrigerating them for a little while. There's more steps than I'm crazy about but maybe it'll be worth it.
