Ron DeSantis- “monkey this up” story (shocking twist!)

Recommended Posts

You may have seen the news talking about Ron DeSantis, the Republican candidate for Governor in FL who is running against a black democrat, using the phrase monkey this up and attributing it to him referring to his black opponent. Ive now seen CNN and NBC show the edited clip, with just the monkey comment and claiming its a direct, racist statement about his opponents race.

Actual quote: "Let's build off the success we've had on Gov. Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state. That is not going to work."

And people still wonder why nobody takes these networks seriously.

Hi there. First-time caller, longtime racist. I don't believe I've ever used or even heard or certainly never thought of using the expression 'monkey this up'. Is that a thing? Are there multiple instances or any instances in the past of this particular Governor or whatever the fuuck he is using such an expression?

At a minimum, perhaps this is a regional thing? Are there multiple instances that of course would be caught on video or audio in the past of people using such an expression? It seems like something that one could pretty easily research.

Thanks. Love your show. I'll hang up and listen.

Wow. Flipping around, Fox News of all people issued a rebuke of this statement.

Meanwhile, in related news, the same guy called the black guy articulate. Which of course we know is roughly akin to gutting someone's mother's uterus with a rusty spoon.

Just once, I'd like to see a white guy Call Shannon Sharpe or somebody else Mushmouth and see how well that's received.

Here we go with Fox News creating terms.

"Was it perhaps a figment of speech?"

That's not a thing. Perhaps it's a figure of your imagination.

Same as saying "no monkey business"

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/monkey%20business

This is why I have rarely can take you guys seriously. Santos absolutely butchered whatever point he was trying to make with his off the cuff "monkey things up". "Let's build off the success we've had on Gov. Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state. That is not going to work." ---most likely he was trying to use 'throw a monkey wrench into the works", maybe "monkey business", either way he screwed it up and the response to compare it to President Obama, who didn't screw up the phrase, is a complete false equivalence. What are you telling me? That it's not racist to say 'monkey' with that comparison, because their are plenty of cases showing otherwise.

Just state(like I think), Santos isn't a racist and he was speaking extemporaneously, his mouth got ahead of his brain and spoke poorly.

Why do these leftist racist scumbag hacks always immediately associate monkeys with blacks ?

In related news, Adam Pacman Jones joined the Broncos the other day...

Cool take. Now explain why the media is only showing a snip of the video instead of showing it in full context.

I think the stronger point if you want to make it is two fold:

One, why isn't the media showing Obama using the exact same expression?

Two, why does the media making an issue of this conflate this with him saying that the candidate is articulate?

The left media is accusing this guy of using dog whistles. But the left media is blowing those whistles pretty hard themselves.

On both sides, this is the kind of shiit that pisses me off. Trump Co and Libloons provide plenty of legitimate screw-ups on a near-constant basis. Neither side needs to reach so god damn hard to find things to be offended about.

And you saying he 'butchered it' i.e. defending the media even bringing it up as a race issue is why we NEVER take you seriously.

Hello caller, yes it is a figure of speech. Muck it up, monkeying it up, focking it up, screw it up, mess it up....you get the picture now?

I briefly heard about this. My gut tells me he was trying to say something along the lines of monkey business / throw a monkey wrench into the works and botched it. If this guy has a long history of saying vaguely bigoted dog whistle type stuff I could buy that its deliberate. Otherwise I conclude it means nothing.

The Left is blowing this way out of proportion - using it for a talking point.

I use the term 'monkey it up' all the time - they need to get a grip.

With black approval ratings of Trump on the rise, they've got to do something to turn it around.

Not even racist. DeSantis has my vote in November. Good guy, going to miss Rick Scott as governor though.

Dude probably meant nothing by it. BUT, you cant be taken seriously as a FL gubinatorual candidate if you and your advisors cant identify it as possibly being divisive and keeping you from saying it. Cant fix stupid. Outrage over this word has gotten people in trouble since Howard Cosell. You gotta know that.

I guess lefties believe blacks resemble monkeys so if you use the word monkey, they (already racist themselves for thinking it) will call you a racist.

As I said, I believe DeSantis did not mean anything racist with his statement, but am I 100% sure, no I can't read his mind, let's say 1% doubt. Of course the media is going to play up whatever gray area there is to generate eyeballs and clicks. Surely, this isn't news to you.

I ignored this before because when someone says people were calling John McCain racist in 2008 and you bring up something that happened in 1983, that he apologized about and said he was wrong on numerous occasions, it's too dumb for me to bother with a response. But since you feel the need to follow me around, there you go and play "look at me, look at me" there you go. Answered.

Gillum killed Desantis in last night's debate. He was already holding a 12 point lead going into last night's victory. Dems are also winning in Florida in the Senate Race. Nelson is up 6 points on Scott so leads are only growing. We will win in Florida.

Gillum's 54% to 42% lead rests on advantages among women (60% back him vs. 34% who say they favor DeSantis), non-white voters (74% back Gillum, 23% DeSantis), younger voters (60% for Gillum, 33% for DeSantis) and political independents (51% back Gillum, 42% DeSantis). Gillum has also consolidated Democratic support (97% favor him) in a way that DeSantis has not matched on the Republican side (88% back him).

Why does the liberal media equate black people to monkeys, apes, etc? Every time some says monkey, they claim it's racist. :dunno:

Why did the Dems start the KKK and oppose Civil Rights? Because they are the racists.

Same with Baltimore Prosecutor (despite being black) stating Weed charges affect too many people of color. They've done stereotyping for so long it's ingrained.

If a phrase or word can be applied to a person of any color then its not racist. But specific words like the N word for blacks, chink for chinese, or kike or Jews are taboo. White people can be referred to as monkeys too
