NFL Draft Prospect comes out of the closet

Recommended Posts

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/10429030/michael-sam-missouri-tigers-says-gay

Michael Sam, an All-American defensive lineman from Missouri and the Associated Press' SEC Defensive Player of the Year, said that he is gay in an interview with ESPN's "Outside the Lines" on Sunday.

Sam stated publicly what his teammates and coaches at Mizzou have known since August: "I am an openly, proud gay man."

Sam is eligible for the NFL draft in May. Assuming that he is drafted, Sam could become the first openly gay player in the history of the NFL.

Well, he has balls announcing it BEFORE the draft. Honestly, it is really simple: I hope he is drafted, and I hope he makes the team and has a decent career, because maybe, just maybe, we (as in society, because personally it is rats ass to me) can finally stop wondering about whether there are any gay pro athletes, or which one is gay, how would a gay athlete be treated by other players, etc.

I figured there are gay players on a lot of teams, it's just not public. Props to this guy for coming out before the draft though. A few years down the line and this won't even be news.

So sick of this kind of garbage being shoved down our throat. No pun intended. Espn is now going to give this player as much coverage as the Olympics. Believe it or not, there is an enormous section of our society who do not agree with this "lifestyle" yet are considered intolerant. Hypocrisy at its finest.

"The First" anything has generally always been considered news worthy of the front page. And if the reason you refer to this news as "garbage" is simply because you disagree with the "lifestyle", then I suppose, yes, that does make you intolerant.

Being attracted to a person of the same sex is either genetic or a choice. Maybe both. Either way it doesn't matter. This "garbage" is only news because an enormous ever-shrinking section of our society seems to believe that they have the right to discriminate based on someone's genetics or choice. All while whining about infringement of their rights because their not allowed to discriminate. Now that's hypocrisy at its finest!

I'll jump out ahead of the responses. This kids draft stock is going to fall because he is gay. That's discrimination.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled Duck Dynasty programming!

If his draft stock falls, it will because teams dont want to deal with the pathetic media circus sure to come along with his heroism and bravery, not discrimination. But that wont stop the attention starved cry babies from playing the victim card.

Well, Tim Tebow can't find a job in the NFL due to media attention. If this clown doesn't get drafted, is he going to sue the league? Yep. Because he was treated equally, so he will find a way to spin it that he wasn't.

It's horsesh!t.

I know you've got a schtick to uphold, but you can't possibly be that daft, can you? Is your sarcasm lost on me?

Uncomfortableness he is forcing on this teammates? You can't honestly believe that, if drafted, Michael Sam will be the only homosexual in the NFL. What about their uncomfortableness? It's insulting to even refer to it as discomfort as I'm sure it's far beyond that in today's locker room. How is he being selfish by coming out before the draft? Teams are not required to draft him - if anything, by coming out now, he is being utterly selfless.

This kid is an inspiration.

ETA

Tebow can't find a job in the NFL because he is a sh1t Quarterback and refuses to attempt any other position. HTH.

If he goes undrafted, I hope the 49ers pick him up in the off chance that he makes headlines by literally focking a Seahawk on the field. Aldon Smith and Justin Smith are both Mizzou Alums. I'm sure the bored would have their chuckles at an "appropriate landing". Not a position of need, but why the hell not.

Why don't men and women share locker rooms and changing areas and showers? Oh, sexual modesty, perhaps. Until there are unisex locker rooms, this mutt has no business changing or showering in the same room as straights. A person has the right to privacy. Let's argue that he is watching one of his teammates undressing and gets a raging rod. Maybe it's not on purpose. But it happens. i know I'd go stiff watching female tennis players change. How do you handle that situation? How does the NFL allow that? How does that player feel, knowing his gay teammate has the hots for him, and he is an innocent victim being ogled in the locker room, Lawsuit, perhaps?

Any reason this wasn't an issue at the Collegiate level? Michael Sam is a Senior.

Donovan Bonner played alongside Michael Sam for five years at Missouri. Sunday, after Sam announced he is gay, Bonner took to Twitter to offer his support. “Proud of My bro Mike for finally coming out man takes a tremendous amount of courage!” tweeted Bonner, a linebacker for Missouri who, like Sam, is eligible for the upcoming NFL Draft. “We knew of his status for 5 years and not one team member, coach, or staff member said anything says a lot about our family atmosphere.”

Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel released a statement shortly after Bonner’s tweet, also offering Sam words of encouragement. “We’re really happy for Michael that he’s made the decision to announce this,” Pinkel said, according to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, “and we’re proud of him and how he represents Mizzou.”

Multiple sources told Sports Illustrated he came out to his Missouri teammates just prior to the 2013 season.

Huh. Guess it didn't really cause any problems. :dunno:

In college, the players have no say over anything that goes on. They are forced to obey whatever the admin tells them to do. Including getting butt focked by Sandusky. Did that cause any problems. Maybe twelve years from now, we will get fall out from this Missouri kid in the locker room. Oh, the college world is a dirty, dirty world.

In the NFL....well, look at what happened in Miami. An offensive lineman cried about being bullied and league suspended Incognito for no cause and turns out he was innocent. The NFL jumps through hoops to avoid litigation nowadays. That's how the Rooney Rule started. Al Sharpton threatened them. I guarantee that a player will file a lawsuit against a gay player in the locker room. And then it gets interesting.

On the other hand, if the guy can play, sure, give him a chance to play. Free market and all that jazz. I just don't think he should be able to force his sexuality onto others to make them uncomfortable to be around him and I don't like that he will be garnering so much individual attention at the expense of the team when it was completely unnecessary and uncalled for.

Nope.

Sex is a choice. Whether to have sex. What kind of sex. It's all about choice. Race, not so much.

Why should one's free will and choice be a catalyst for evil and chaos and destruction to those around you? Maybe you are an anarchist? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Race and Sexual Orientation may not be comparable (to some), but they are equally as ridiculous reasons for which to discriminate.

Let's not draft a guy because he is gay today is no different than let's not draft a guy because he is black back then.

You wouldn't want him to be a Seahawk because he is gay. There is something wrong with that.

Why is it that every time you spout off about a topic, it seems like you're about 80 years behind the times?

So, when we hear a guy like Stephen Hawking comes out and say that what he has been been preaching about black holes has been wrong and that he "blundered", it just means science is stupid. These so called geniuses are always wrong. Yet, science is still unable to show people are born gay. How sad. Boo hoo.

I can't help but think of Idiocracy, and how after a few more years of reality TV and consuming additives in food, everybody will be a drooling retard like yourself.

Start to think critically and stop being a sheep.

If you think it's a choice, then you are a certifiable retard.

Assuming you like women, I'm guessing you do. Would you say that if not for 'choice' you would not be attracted to a 25-year old hot piece of ass running around in a skirt? You actually have to chose to let your junk go crazy over it instead of natural animal instinct controlling it?

Most execs saw him as a late round selection anyway, so they'll probably pass due to the media frenzy that's bound to happen.

After the draft the special interest groups will get involved and some team will have to sign him.

He is a slightly more gay Vince papale

He's been projected as a 4-5 from what I've read. :dunno:

He'll go in the second.

How so? He only weighs 260, too small for defensive end, out of his 11 sacks, nine came from games with Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Florida?

The article I read said that GMs saw him at best a third rounder, and that was stretching it.
