sirensong 111 Posted April 27, 2012 good article, but a minor engrish point: 'reticent' means 'not communicative'. the proper word there is 'reluctant'.
UNCDave 0 Posted April 27, 2012 good article, but a minor engrish point: 'reticent' means 'not communicative'. the proper word there is 'reluctant'. It also means reserved in manner or reluctant, so grammatically it would be fine.
sirensong 111 Posted April 28, 2012 It also means reserved in manner or reluctant, so grammatically it would be fine. well, it's one of those words that has been used incorrectly so many times that its meaning has shifted. but when writing for publication (and posterity), it's best to go with the etymological derivation. it would get redlined in a submission, somewhat like using "myself" when the proper word is "me", or using "anxious" as a synonym for "eager". but it's no big deal in a forum post.
