Chester Taylor

Recommended Posts

i've been doign a lot of thinking about sleep running backs to pick in the draft this year, and chester taylor has been on my mind. will he get 20+ carries and if so shouldn't he be worth a 2nd or early 3rd ? im thinking i could get a stud wr instead but everyone needs a 2nd back but do i sacrafice an early pick for him. if things go how i think they will and he gets 20+ carries a game im thinking 1200-1300 rushing with 10-12 tds. what is your take ?

I think that's the most you'll get out of him. It's a good total if it happens, though. He's a good mid-round back to select and take the risk he'll produce like a very good #2 RB for your squad. 20+ carries seems a little high for a guy that is going to play in an offense coached by the coordinator that ran Andy Reid's offense in Philly...

To me that's the concern, is Brad Childress going to install a pass-first offense that looks similar to Philly's? If so, Taylor is a 15-20 touch per game guy and not a 20+ carry per game player. I think the concern is valid because the former Raven was known as a good pass catching option and they made this move to get him after they brough Childress in, so he's a guy that likely matches their offensive system.

15-20 touches per game isn't bad at all, but it's more Brian Westbrook like than Shaun Alexander like if you know what I mean...

As long as Taylor stays healthy, I think he'll be the focus of the backfield as opposed to Mewelde Moore or Ciatrick Fason. Even if those guys eat into his opportunities by as much as 30-35% of the total looks to the backfield, I wouldn't be too concerned as that's not enough to say it's an RBBC in terms of avg. production for a top RB on a team's depth chart (65%-70%)...in fact if the top RB as 50-60% you'll likely be doing quite well statistically with that player on your roster.

If you get a stud #1 RB, a stud #1 WR, Taylor (if he performs well enough in preseason that his ADP almost requires you to look for him in round 3), a top TE like Gates or Gonzales (if picking early round 4 and still there depending on the savvy of your league) and follow up with one of those promising rookies in round 5 or 6, you might be looking pretty good. Then you can take a chance on some of those promising WR. I'm assuming of course your league scoring is standard and weight more towards yards and points per reception are not counted.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, it is going to be interesting to see the type of O Childress runs. I'm going to have to do a little bit of research on that. I think he's going to be available in the 4th, so I'm gonna wait until then, if I don't change my mind. I've had Gonzo on my team the past 3 years, and he's really good, but inconsistent wekk-by-week. I'd rather go with Gates, or even Crunpler this year. I'm gonna start a post on that to get some advice. Thanks once again

MINNESOTA has really, really improved on the offensive line this year, I think that is a huge factor when evaluating C.TAYLORS potential this season.

Childress is REALLY high on Taylor. This is his hand picked guy to carry the pig. I am targetting him for late second round, and would be thrilled to get him at 2.8-2.12

two trains of thought

one Childress like Chester and he will be a stud

two Chester is an experienced back brought in to hold place until Ciatric Fason is ready to be the man

the fact that number two is even in the wind is enough reason for me to let Taylor fall to mid third. Add to that a poor WR core and a questionable Viking decision to roll out with Brad Johnson at QB and I see a very stagnant FG and punt happy offense despite some up grades along their Oline.
