Roger Goodell Clown Show.....

Recommended Posts

Why would they publish an article like that when it would devalue their potential advertising revenue? It would be a conflict of interest... they would have to be extremely stupid to willingly devalue their own product to potential buyers

They would say it when they choose not to renegotiate with the NFL... but they clearly don't because they keep giving the NFL mountains of money.

Read his entire post. He definitely took a side, which is fine by me. My brother served and my father in law is a retired colonel and neither cares what Kap does with his knee.

You need to read it again. I most definitely did NOT take a side. I pointed out two sides, that's all. A retired colonel with no care of what Kaep did? I call BS. I have a family of military veterans who will not only root for him to never work again, but also have went as far as to turn off any game where this occurs. You know what? Some are interracial marriages, so it's not a black/white issue as someone made it out to be. I am Irish and Indian by blood (feather, not dot). We are naturally opinionated people, but take things like Nation and Country very seriously. I get what Kaep was trying to do, I just believe he did it in the wrong forum. The more I read about him, the more I found to dislike. The guy hangs around with bangers, yet trashes the Police? WTF? I'm one that hopes he never plays another down in the NFL. If I owned a team, and you did this during the anthem, you would no longer be on my team. We've already seen many owners apparently believe this as well. The Jaguars, in my opinion, were/are a fit for Kaep. Nothing. They flatly don't want him. The Ravens desperately needed a backup, but even Ray Lewis has come out against Kaep's girlfriend being a racist.

This crap needs to stop. Football is an escape from our day to day lives. It becomes less so when outside "real" life crap gets brought into our fantasy games. If you have noticed, NONE of the players taking a knee now are free agents or people with only one year left on their deal. What does that tell you? The players that are protesting are secure. What is the protest if you have nothing to lose? No skin in the game? I'll at least give Krap credit for that much. He knew there could be consequences and he did it anyway. Good for him for sticking to his beliefs, no matter how much I disagree with him, I respect the fact he had the balls to do it with so much on the line.

Are you speaking in the past or future tense here because you seem to go back and forth

They are bound by multiple year contracts, they don't just hand out money whenever they feel like it

For someone who says they didn't take a side your wall of text suggests otherwise.

So, they are going back to the NYG kicker Brown and giving him a 2nd suspension for 6 games for the exact same issue that they already suspended him for 1 game. Lalalalala, let's make up our own rules as we go along because we have no idea what we're doing.....lalalalalalala.

Isn't that part of what got them in trouble with Ray Rice? Disciplining him twice?

Plus that guy isn't even on a team any more and nobody is going to pick him up, lol

Negative reactions towards Goodell for this is typical of people who don't like him. The case was reopened based on new information obtained. It's what you're supposed to do. When information changes, decisions should change. It's common sense. It's why Goodell is doing it and why his haters don't realize it.

Isn't it funny that the timing coincides with a legal battle that the league is facing for a similar suspension. Don't suppose the almighty powerful Commissioner who has the authority to do whatever he feels like, to include changing the rules of the league when he wants to for the heck of it, doesn't want the big mean court system to judge him as inconsistent do you?? Hmmmmm?

To you? Of course. To me? No... and I don't care. These guys screwed up all on their own. I couldn't care less what suspensions Goodell levy's and when he does it. They deserve what they get. If Goodell finds new info that warrants a heavier suspension, then I'm good by it. I think he's doing a great job and see no reason to not trust him. You don't trust him for whatever agenda you have, so I don't expect you to agree.

Maybe he should suspend Jamis Winston too. I hear he sexually assaulted a woman at college and the police messed up the investigation. So, according to you, guilty is guilty right?? Right??

I don't doubt for 1 second that the networks have "out clauses" in those contracts that they signed. If the networks were worried about the ratings and their return on investment, then they'd get out.

If he did it and they found a reason to suspend him, then yes! He [Winston], screwed up. Not me. Not Goodell. Not anyone else.

Now me... unlike you, would be mad at the person who screwed up, not the person who punished him.

What if he didn't do it? How would you know if he did or not? Maybe he didn't and was falsely accused. Suspend him anyway??

He caused the situation by being there. That's HIS fault. HE did it. No one else.

Besides, Goodell and the NFL office DID investigate and they found nothing. When you do NOTHING, NOTHING is the result.

Elliott apparently DID do SOMETHING. Just because you don't know what it is, that's not the leagues fault. In fact, the league should be applauded for taking the high road and not throwing him under the bus and saying what they found. If the owners and NFLPA were really against Goodell's decisions, he wouldn't have that latitude.

Seems the only person who interviewed both parities during the investigation didn't see it that way. I don't care if players get suspended. I am very against domestic abuse. I would be ok with the league making it a year long ban for any court convictions of such an offense.

However, I just think this mamby pamby farce of an investigation that took over a year and looks like a 3rd grader could have done a better job is a joke. The league changing it's story on the J Brown case (especially the timing of it) makes them look really, really bad. It's a sham. It's a complete clown show.

So what about this whole Michael Bennett thing?

He comes out adamantly saying he was targeted because of his race, but the police come out asking for an investigation because he apparently ran once he saw the cops, hurdled multiple objects at the casino before being chased down at gun point outside?

A very bizarre scenario... I'm not taking sides til more info comes out, but not even an inquiry from the NFL? Seems pandering inconsistency in an effort to keep up with their narrative.

Either that or it's a violation of NFL rules, to discipline a player twice for the same offense, which is why Ray won his court case to be reinstated

You don't doubt, which means you don't really know, an out clause doesn't come without costs either most of the time

if you think ratings can continue to drop 12% a season for a few more seasons and the networks won't care, you're fooling yourself

No, I don't... that's why I used the words I did. Based on contracts I've seen with substantial numbers, I'm making an educated guess. You are correct in what you say, as it would come with a cost... but don't kid yourself on how bad those are. If the networks wanted out, they'd have made sure that it was attainable. My guess is that the money they're paying annually is the "cost" of an out clause.

Again, like I said, the ratings only take into account the people who are the "sample" that Neilson uses. If you remember, last year was the first and/or second year that there were multiple other outlets available to people to watch games aside from cable... such as PlayStation, Twitter, and Facebook. Neilson ratings do not take those into account. Also, last year the NFL made it possible for people to buy subscriptions on Android and Apple products, such as phones and tablets. The reason why the networks won't care about the ratings is because it doesn't matter how people view the games... just that they are. We know they are because the subscriptions for the Sunday Ticket (through DirectTV and PlayStation), as well as mobile subscriptions and internet are going up. No matter what platform people watch the games, they have to watch the network feeds. So, if someone is watching a Packers/Seahawks game on their phone, they're still watching a Fox feed and not some arbitrary one.

To make sure that we're focused on my initial point, Maulers was saying that the drop in ratings was due to Goodell... and there's simply no way to prove that. That's an opinion he has based on bias and nothing else. With the whole CTE argument going on, football as a whole, has lost popularity for the sport at younger levels... this is a fact. What is also a fact is that Goodell had nothing to do with the CTE situation, he inherited that. There is much more evidence supporting lower ratings due to that, than there is due to dislike of Goodell. To prove my point on this... look at all the people on these boards who complain about Goodell, yet, they're still here. Why? If they hate Goodell that much and they think he's ruining the game to no ends, why are they still here? Because they're still watching. They're not going to leave because they enjoy the game. Goodell won't change that.

It's all a factor. CTE, Ray Rice botch job, deflate gate nonsense, player protests, drug use suspensions, and yes indeed the complete botch job of the Josh Brown Suspension and now the Zeke suspension. In the court of public opinion Roger Goodell is getting roasted. Not just here. I've heard national sports media members discussing it. When you continue to look like a bumbling idiot, and you're the face of the sport, you're going to catch some heat. He can't control everything, but his PR on nearly everything has been disastrous.

Well, if you say the ratings are up with Goodell in office, it means he's doing a good job, isn't it only fair to say the opposite as well?

That and when you are the head honcho and things happen on your watch, it's ultimately your fault.
