New to Keeper League

Recommended Posts

None of our league has been in a keeper league and I have a quick question. We just decided to do this for this upcoming season and all I really know is that we only get to keep 1 player and we lose the draft pick the round they were selected in. I believe a free agent pickup cost us a 10th rd pick.

Now my question is this: Someone drafted Peterson last year and dropped him. I picked him up and kept him all season. Do I get to keep Peterson as a free agent pickup (10th rd) or the original round he was drafted in (1st)?

Where he was drafted. Exact same format we use except we can't keep anyone drafted in the first 5 rounds. I like that small but dramatic change. You should keep it in mind for the future because we added that rule after about 3 seasons in the same format yall are starting in.

Edit...this is assuming that's the way yall want to play it. You could make the rule however yall want to vote it.

With that being the case I assume Peterson is still my best option to hang onto?

Other options being

-Julio-2nd rd

-Andrew Luck-5th rd

-Russel Wilson- 10th rd

We would need much more info to determine your best option. I would argue that Peterson should be a 10th if it were me.

What do the other owners in your league say should be done ?

Commish just told me it's where he was originally drafted. 12 team ppr, rest of rules/lineups pretty standard.

I could see the argument but if he was simply added because of a waiver priority claim it's not really a great way to conduct the rule.

Purchased with a blind bid....yeah maybe I could see that.

I think he should be a ten round pick up also .

My thought is because you were willing to pick up a guy with the hopes that he would play and then hold him through the rest of the season even though he didn't play then a 10th rounder is the reward. If you traded him etc then 1st rounder applies. Rules are rules and I follow the intent without pissing people off as good as the rest of them so #1 is follow the rules in your league, #2 at least make the case for a 10th if the rule isn't clear.

The way I've always done keeper leagues is a drafted player will always keep his draft position. This is regardless of trade or a release, and then getting picked back up. So your gonna have to find out from your comish exactly what the rule is. Because if I was in your situation. If Peterson was a 10th, I'd keep him all day, every day. However I would pass on him if he costs me a first.

To me the better value would then be either Luck for a 5th or Wilson for a tenth.

The qb for me would be depending on what size your league is and points for touchdown passes.

So yer getting hosed if you keep AP because he was dropped. But oh well. Plenty of people would still say keeping him for a 1st is good value, myself included. Julio for a 2nd is also good - might be the direction I'd lean depending on what other RBs were being kept. Luck for a 5th is excellent value, as is Wilson as a 10th. A lot of that depends on your scoring. 4 pt QB tds?

I think QBs are being undervalued this year; you can get plenty top 12 QB options even into the 7th/8th/9th rounds. Really I'd just advise you to wait till you see who all is being kept and then make your choice. If a lot of WRs are being kept you'll keep Julio, etc.

Thanks for the advice and yes it is a 4 pt qb td. As of now, I am leaning towards keeping Luck but I really do see Peterson as the no.1 player on my board. So is it better to take the no.1 player and rb on my board or keep Luck and grab most likely another rb in rd 1? DeAndre Hopkins as a 9th rounder is also a possibility but don't like qb situation or the fact AJ is not there to take away coverage.

Where are you picking in the 1st and any idea what others are thinking?

Well, if you go by vbd. Look at it like, keeping Peterson and then drafting in the second, you would have a first and a second round player after 2 rounds of drafting.

Now keeping Luck, making your 1 & 2 picks. Now after 2 rounds, you would have a first and 2 second rounders after you complete 2 rounds of drafting.

That is a good point.

All I know is that I'll be picking in the 6-8 range and the only keepers I know for sure people are hanging onto are: Lynch (1), Bell (3), A.Brown (3), Beckham (10). I will most likely keep Luck and look for best available rb in rd1 (atleast I know Peterson & Murray will go back into the pool since they were both on my team last year).

Peterson won't make it back to you. If your drafting at 8 I think you'd be ecstatic to have Peterson there in a standard format. RBs will fly off the board. I'd have a hard time putting Peterson back in knowing I'd be getting a weaker RB. If you throw Luck back in you can still find a top 5 QB...I'm not sure you can say that about a RB if your at #8 overall.
