NBC Cutting Ties to Donald Trump Over ‘Derogatory’ Remarks About Immigration

Recommended Posts

NBC - showing their true liberal colors now that he is running for president?

NBC is ending its long relationship with Donald Trump in the wake of the presidential hopeful’s recent comments about Mexican immigrants.

NBC said it will no longer carry the Trump-produced Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. Nor will he return to host “Celebrity Apprentice.”

“Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump,” NBC said in a statement. “’Celebrity Apprentice’ is licensed from Mark Burnett’s United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue.”

It is refreshing that Trump speaks his mind, even if his mind is sometimes a scary thing. I may disagree with him, but I think he should have the right to speak as he sees fit.

And nobody is stopping him from speaking his mind. Heck, with his money & SCOTUS, seems like he has MORE of right to speak his mind than most.

I agree. And NBC has the right to hire and fire as they see fit for their business. They knew there'd be a sponsor backlash and got ahead of it.

What about his first amendment right to employment at NBC? :dunno:

Al Sharpton still drawing a check from NBC? Howard Stern? Al Roker? Yep. Somebody should check to see if they are still paying Bill Cosby.

But Trump needs to go.

This is sort of like when an NFL guy does something wrong.

Does he suck? Cut him.

Is he good? Keep him and deal with the backlash

Anybody watch Telemundo? I can understand a little bit of Spanish and every once in a while I'll turn on their soaps at night because I have a thing for Latin women and it's a good way to keep my Spanish somewhat in tact. There's a lot of abuse toward women on those shows. I know soap opera story lines are not reflective of real life, but damn.

Stern is a comedian. If you take what he says seriously, knowing his job is to shock you, then you deserve to get your tailfeathers ruffled. Al Roker? lol

Stern offends people, even though he is mostly a toothless lion now. Still, for all the N-words he would say on a daily basis for decades over the air, and wrote a book about how being ghey is a mental disorder, he is teflon. Unlike, say, Paula Dean.

Al Roker outright mocked epileptics during a broadcast for the Olympics. This was mere months after Imus was fired by the NBC corporation. Imus gone, Al Roker, no big deal, no suspension, nothing. Oh, and Roker made a big stink about Imus at the time and said a broadcaster should never be allowed to get away with comedy at the expense of others.

FYI, I didn't think Imus should have been fired, either. He was a shock jock trying to be funny. Stern TRIES to offend people. That's his job. People don't have to listen. Like I said, anyone getting offended by Stern just doesn't get it

Stern was never fired because he was a ratings giant at the time and now he's a puss. Imus sucked at the time.

Like Trump now.

On a certain spectrum, Donald Trump is trying to shock too. He's been saying controversial stuff for years. Didn't he get into it with Fatso Rosie a few years ago? He's a shock job of hosting reality shows. "You're fired!!" is his shtick.

Imus pretty good ratings and continues to have good ratings. TV and radio.

But I will agree, Trump's ratings on his Apprentice show have been sliding downwards. Last season, he was nearly not renewed. He might have run for President as an excuse so his show didn't get cancelled. Preventive measure, as crazy as it sounds.

Then again, America's Got Talent ratings have been way down since Stern joined, so it didn't make sense why they kept him for years despite plummeting numbers.

When he stepped into the Presidential ring, his words immediately carried more weight.

Realistically no candidate from either side should be getting airtime on such shows while running for office.

read it ....... sorry still stuck on what he said to get the ban hammer?

So NBC takes what he said totally out of context of what he meant ... only a 12 year old idiot (ie. Newbie) would take that to mean he thought all Messicans were killers and Rapists. This coming from a person that likely votes for Hilary in 16' unless Rand Paul gets the nom..

The analysis is pretty simple with this one, and it's purely economic: NBC needs its Hispanic viewers more than it needs Donald Trump.

No libtard conspiracy here

One huge diff, we'll either deal with him or ignore him, but no one on our side will report him. That's loser stuff. We believe in freedom of expression.

Why is that so hard to figure out? I worked at Pepsicos world headquarters for a little while. You should have seen the uproar when Madonna had that video with the crucifixion depicted. They canned her, because they would sell more cans of soda without her than with her. The execs at Pepsi weren't exactly liberals.

I'm asking a direct question. When you read the quotes from Trump did you really, actually think he was saying all Mexicans are rapists? Like for real, that's what you took from it?

It's two seperate discussions.

1. Yes, it is understandable WHY a company like NBC would cut ties. They go with the winds of the people. They are in business to sell products and want zero negative publicity. It is understandable from a business perspective.

The other tangent discussion is

2. Why do we as the people and media, take things out of their context, twist words around and try to make somethings out of nothings? We love a good "gotcha" moment over actually trying to understand one another. And those out of context "gotcha moments" create this fake outrage negative publicity that forces the hand of a company like NBC.

I did not think he meant every single Mexican in the world is a rapist. No. But I do think he was being very vicious and stereotypical. and implying that many many Mexicans rape.

I don't think Trump is a good champion on this one. We can argue about the precise meaning of his comments all we want but bottom line is they were completely stupid and wildly offensive to Hispanics.

And Trump isn't a fool. He likely knew this would happen. So he loses his show at NBC- wasn't it struggling anyway? Conversely he now gets all this press and becomes a hero and martyr for the right. He'll get a new show or a book deal or speaking fees or whatever the fock out of it.

So I don't disagree with your second premise but I do think it's misapplied here.

You guys certainly like binging it up. I worked there in between the Marines and the NYPD. About 9 months, doing maintenance. We had to set up a huge room for all the execs and shareholders who were coming in to decide about Madonna. Helicopters all over the place.

Close. He led a team of former seals that helicoptered into Coke headquarters and stole the secret recipe. They actually lost one of the choppers in the raid but fortunately MB's team still made it out safe and sound

Yeah, but it was the New Coke recipe, so we were robbed of our place in history. We did smuggle a scientist out of occupied territory with the recipe for Pepsi clear though.

So let's get this straight. Newbie agrees it's refreshing for someone to speak their mind yet reports people for having opinions he doesn't agree with.

Ugh.
