Keeper Advice, 2 to 4 keepers

Recommended Posts

14 team non ppr league. Minimum 2 keepers, max of 4. QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, W/T, TE

I already know I will have the 13th & 16th pick for rnd 1 and 2. I think I am going to keep CJ Anderson, Alshon, and Hopkins.

(I would keep Maclin, but not in KC).

That will take my 6th rnd pick, 12th rnd pick and 8th rnd pick, and my plan is to take a rb & wr with rnd 1 & 2 picks.

My need for advice is, would it be a good idea to keep Matt Ryan from last year, which would take this years 2nd rnd pick, (passing tds 6 pts. 25 yrds / 1 pt.) or would i have a better option available in the 4th, 5th or 6th round with picks 44, 69, 72?

Thanks in advance. I will help with your questions.

You've got a great foundation for the future in those 3 keepers that are all on the rise in their careers. I would definitely not keep Matt Ryan in the 2nd round. I think he's never finished above QB7 or 8 in his entire career so a 2nd round pick would be wasteful imo. I know QBs go quickly in 14 team leagues once the run on them starts, but there are so many options that you can find a serviceable one in rds 4-6. They may not be "better" but should be about "equal" to matt ryan and you can use that 2nd rounder to target BPA. Do you have any other keeper options?

also, mind checking out my question? thanks man. http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=446732

Well the only other optoins for keepers I would even consider, but not really consider, is Maclin, Witten, Stills, and Ellington. We cannot keep our 1st or 2nd round picks from last year.

what round would you have ellington? I know the RB/Oline situation is murky in AZ, but he will have some great weeks. In my experience, decent RBs in keeper leagues are hard to come by after the first few rounds since so many are off the board before the draft begins. If he's anywhere after the 4th i'd consider it.

Either way, I would not keep Matt Ryan in the 2nd just because you can. If for some reason you want him that badly then i'm positive he would be available for you to draft 16th.

If you saw my question you know I'm similarly debating whether to keep Luck in the 2nd round (14th overall), so this decision on Ryan to me seems a no-brainer 'do not keep'.

I agree, it is pretty much a no-brainer on Ryan, thanks for the help on that.

Ellington would be a 5th rounder for me if i were to keep. If this were PPR then it would be more of a possibility in my mind.

If everyone is keeping 4 players, you gotta figure that at a fairly early point in your draft, you are actually drafting in what amounts to 2-4 rounds later (e.g. players with redraft ADPs of round 5 will by necessity be taken in rd 3). The fall off is precipitous, so I wouldn't balk at keeping Ellington in the 5th. Your options in the actual 5th won't likely be better than a potential top end RB2 like Ellington.

Thanks for your input on my ?? as well.
