Less than market? He did not have that much of a market. The guy is 31 years old and he is a bit player. He is hoping to use his newly earned Masters degree to go into an NFL front office. This is probably just trying to expand his rolodex as he is a long-shot to make the team.

I like the move and wish him luck.

He didn't seem to be in the best environment for his particular skillset before.

Look man, I'm just repeating what the article said.

he apparently had better offers with other teams.

How much truth there is to this I dont now. I just thought it was an interesting move.

It's interesting for sure. It isn't that I'm excited to get him on my team, neither in dynasty or redraft. However, his presence makes me less interested in guys like Edleman, Cooks, Hogan, and Amendola.

I think he'll make the team, but it's another mouth to feed.

The only viable FF starter from that dynamic offense is the QB. Otherwise, it's one giant crapshoot at WR/TE and the backfield to try to determine who will shine week in and week out.

Andrew Hawkins. Andrew Hawkins makes you nervous? The guy is an average receiver, and that may even be generous.

Oh my soul, there is no way that the Patriots picking up Hawkings should at all change anyones ranking of Cooks and Edelman.

I dont see him displacing either of these guys.

He will be the #3 WR on this team (and the #4 option in the passing game if you include Gronk and exclude the RB's who may or may not play a larger role). He wont move up unless there is an injury.

but I do think if they have injuries to Gronk or any of the WR, he could step in and take a bigger role in the offense and the team wont miss a beat.

It's also possible that they cut him before the season starts.

Tough to say with the pats, but without a doubt, I'd say he's a DND unless there are multiple injuries to the WR on this team.

Isn't that what everyone said about Hogan?

I'm not saying Hawkins will steal the starting role from the likes of Edelman and/or Cooks. Just that it's another guy they'll rotate in to save wear and tear on their stars. Those elite guys will see just a few less targets with a reliable guy coming in off the bench.

I'm not sold on him even passing Hogan or even Mitchell and or Amendola on the depth chart.

And if Gronk was to go down again I don't see where that would benefit Hawkins.

It would be more of a benefit for Allen, and players like White, Lewis, and Burkhead.

I'm not sold that his signing changes any think.

I never said that about Hogan. I thought he would get legit targets because of the lack of high end receiving talent. And I thought he was undervalued.

There has to be someone else on the roster to catch a pass. The average number of receivers to catch a pass during the season on each team is probably 10 or so? Just a complete guess.

Plus, there is a reason the Pats gave up their 1st round pick for Cooks, whom they have seen toy with Butler up close in scrimmage. I think, and Belichick probably agrees, it would be insane to take away meaningful targets from Cooks and Edelman for Andrew Hawkins. Not to mention Hogan and Mitchell whom are both better than Hawkins imo.

For what it's worth, Hogan and Mitchell both stand at 6' 1".

Welker was 5' 9", Edelman is 5' 10", and Hawkins is 5' 7".

He won't be asked to do what Hogan or Mitchell could, but the Patriots may feel that Hawkins offers them some usefulness by occasionally filling the Welker-Edelman role.

Hawkins was electric to watch at times during the good season he had with Cincinnati in 2012.

Maybe a Edleman type role.

Maybe for the future.

But I'm not going to adjust my rankings of either Cooks or Edelman because he sign with the Patriots.

Not a big name at all but he's been stuck in Cleveland.

It always raises eyebrows when New England signs a guy like this.

Never quite sure when Bill knows something we don't and they are in for a big season.

For some guys. They did lean on Brandon Labell for a while, which should show they are far from perfect in their evaluation

Polecatt excellent point when it comes to the Patriots and when they pick up someone.

I don't see much to this move right now.

But your right one can never tell what the Coach has going on.

Maybe he returns punts or doesn't make the team. How anyone could be worried about a 5'7 31 year old receiver is beyond me...

If the "last" receiver to make the team is Hawkins or Amendola or whoever, there will still be "X" mouths to feed.

That's Brandon Lafell. He was good at times. I don't think its the evaluation flaw (everyone swings and misses) but NE doesn't put an emphasis on the position. They make a priority of other positions and piece together the WRs.

As i remember, Cle paid big money for him coming from a good year in Cincy... Not his fault he languished in Cle. dumpster fire.

Its a good football move, but won't impact fantasy
