Waiver Wire Lemmings

Recommended Posts

I love to watch how people scurry to their computers on Monday or Tuesday night in an attempt to pick up the guy who had a good game this weekend. Fueled by the talking heads who mystically all say the same thing (wonder why?) writing about how these "sleepers" will be the next hot waiver wire pick ups for this coming week. Thus, millions of Lemmings click on guys named Naanee, Jackson, or Lloyd in hopes of finding that diamond in rough in order to compensate for their lousy draft.

Then, after the next week's games, most of those same people dump the same Naanee, Jackson and Lloyd in order to pick up guys named Tolbert and D.Thomas.

And on and on.....

Final Thought to Ponder: All it takes is one good week to transform a relative unknown to a Fantasy Football god! "Gods" come cheap these days, don't they?

i don't think this thread is going quite the way he planned.

No, I knew I would get called out when someone saw my roster. I'm just passing some time, but you have to admit, I am right.

But let me partially explain - I handcuffed Ryan Matthews so that was logical. I have seen DThomas play a ton at Georgia Tech and I fell in love with him, so these two guys I have reason to own. I did add Walter this week because I think Owen Daniels is still not healthy, and he is taking his catches. VICK was a no-brainer. Flacco has let me down big time; I was desperate.

How exactly do you have time to watch others scurry to their computers on Monday and Tuesday mornings when you are trying to beat them to the punch? I guess next Monday you'll be dropping Tolbert and Thomas for Laurence Maroney and Golden Tate... :pointstosky:

I'll never pick up Maroney Baloney! He's hurt me too many times in the past.

Golden is on a horrible team; I'll pass, just like I don't pick up Raiders or Lions, except Best is making me eat my words.

How fast did you jump on the waiver wire to pick up Vick? God knows you didn't draft a back up QB.

To me, that's half of the fun in fantasy football. The new flavor of the week, or just trying to beat your buddies to the waiver wire. Then trying to pawn these guys off as the next coming of Miles Austin, or Jamaal Charles in last years waiver wire. Getting something for nothing....it's America boys!!!

Looking at the posts and your roster it looks like you have a first come first serve waiver system  WHICH should not be allowed or atleast should not be talked about :nono:

That's the thing though. You pick up a guy who had a good week in hopes that he becomes the next Miles Austin. I know I for one didn't even try to get Austin after his big game last year, thinking it was just one fluke game. Guess it wasn't...

I was very fortunate to have picked up Vick in all three of my leagues. I did it right after the GB game and surprisingly I was able to get him in all of them.

I wouldn't say it is all that surprising. When you play in leagues without a waiver process there is always one guy who just sits in his room to pick up the next "flavor of the week".

Anyone who pays to play in a league like that is a SUCKER

Those leagues should be banned from discussion

One is first come first served. The other two go through a waiver period. I was fortunate Brandon Jackson and a bunch of other WRs were the hot talk even as much as Vick. Oh, it also pays to lose your first game or two - you pick at the top. I'm 0-2 in the league I've posted my roster and I was able to get Tolbert this week and Vick last week. Oh, and lastly, I just picked up Walter after no one wanted him after Tuesday waivers. I cut Manningham to get him, so maybe not the best idea.

If there's not a low limit on the number of moves you can make or they aren't regulated by the bid system, why the hell wouldn't you pick up flavor of the week players? Those "Waiver Wire Lemmings" probably wound up with Miles Austin, Steve Smith (NYG), Jerome Harrison, Brent Celek, etc...last year. If you have 1-2 players that you'll never start, why wouldn't you try your best to get an upgrade?

Apparently my flavor for wit was unappreciated or misunderstood here. Of course you pick up these guys hoping they become stars. We are all waiver wire junkies, or as I called it here, Lemmings. Not saying this is WRONG.....just kind of funny to me. (I thought it was funny.)

Soooo...the post didn't really have a point? You were merely making an observation? Well, ok then.

Don't see how the logical evolution of rosters during the fantasy season is comical, so I guess your right - your "wit" is either unappreciated or misunderstood.

In my case, I just don't get it. Sorry. :dunno:

To be competitive in fantasy football anymore, you have to at least try to find those virtual unknowns that are going to be in the top 5, 10, whatever. You know they will be there. Someone is going to grab them. You've got to try. Part of being consistently good is being able to spot these guys a little earlier than anyone else. Of course you strike out on most of them, but I always try to have at least 2 spots on my roster that I can use for grabbing and storing a couple guys I think could do well this year (have three right now). Most of the time I'm wrong, but some times I come up big (Like Austin last year). There's someone like that every year. It's not being a lemming, it's trying to stay ahead of the curve.

In this league I've posted here in my signature, it only allows for 14 slots. I can't stash players here. No way can I stash guys like KWilliams or KHuggins or guys who might be the next Arain Foster.

yeah your team looks really crappy! i don't think i would listen to you.

Like crap!!!!!

Yeah, I'm 0-2 now, but with Michael Vick leading the way, I should pick up. I admit, I really hurt myself drafting Ryan Matthews in round 2 instead of picking up a stud WR or QB. Oh well, I believed the hype.

You don't find any humor in how people can pick up a guy one week based on one good week and then drop him the next week after a not so good performance.

Oy.... :dunno:
