PGA is investigating Bryson Deshamblow for using a drawing compass during tournaments

Bryson DeChambeau has always done things a little differently, and a tool he used this week at the Travelers Championship has caught the eye of the PGA Tour.

DeChambeau was spotted by TV cameras using a compass with his yardage book this week, and according to DeChambeau it's being reviewed by PGA Tour officials.

"They said, 'We just want to let you know we're investigating this device and seeing if it's allowable or not,'" DeChambeau told reporters Sunday. "It wouldn't be the first time this has happened."

DeChambeau, 24, said him using the compass is nothing new. It started at the Shriners in October 2016. He said he uses it to figure out "true pin locations."

"The pin locations are a little bit off every once in a while," he said, "so I'm making sure they're in the exact right spot."

DeChambeau, who was also investigated for side-saddle putting two years ago, shot 68 on Sunday to finish T9. He won the Memorial earlier this month and has six top 10s on the season.

"People are saying it's an unusual device, that's at least what the Tour's saying," he said. "It's funny people take notice when you start playing well."

Depending on the findings, prior Edex results may need to be altered.

I can think of one certain tourney a certain someone won a whole lot of money for his win.

So if there is a rule that gets created to outlaw compasses, how many pages will that yield? Five? Ten?

Yeah, when they take that win away from deShamBlow, send that $90 to the rightful winner, me.

I'm not really in to golf but have in the past watched a little bit of it here and there. And then I remember that the PGA are a bunch of idiots much like the NCAA and stop watching again.

Hard to make a case either way for using one benefitting a player, it probably won't be allowed DURING a round.

I'm guessing they may outlaw it going forward, but will not penalize him for past rounds

he should be penalized for playing so focking slow

I'm sorry - WTF is a "true pin location"?

That's what I can't figure out. Hey look, it's over there.

They can't use rangefinders so my guess would be to use a known point of reference from the yardage book and use the compass/divider to calculate distances.

Same process in mapping distances.

A basic tool but prolly in violation of the rules

PGA Tour said it didn't violate any rules. USGA will opine on conformity... It would be hard to imagine the Tour stripping a title from a guy after saying he didn't break any rules. If it is outlawed my guess it would be outlawed moving forward.

The real question is what i will do with 9000 pennies

Personally I don't care if somebody uses a compass, I'll stick to my range finder.

.

But anyone who does use a compass should be punched in the face - just for being a tool.
