Ryan Fitzpatrick named starter for Week 9

Recommended Posts

This becomes like "Name that Tune" in reverse.

Jameis: "I can throw 6 INT in one game"

Fitzmagic: "I can throw 5 INT in one game"

Jameis: "I can throw 4 INT in one game"

Fitzmagic: "I can throw 3 INT in one game"

Koetter: "Fitz, it's all yours"

Which pretty much officially ends Winston's career in TB.

His 20 million salary next year is guaranteed for injury only.

They'll probably dangle him to see if anyone's willing to trade for him, and shut him down for the year if/when no one wants him.

I think Godwin owners have to be happy too.....don’t you think? I used to be one until Jameis ruined the party.

Probably helps everyone in that offense save Brate.

Brate and Godwin owners are the unhappy ones. While Fitzpatrick spreads the ball around more, using all his targets (except for Brate for some reason), he specifically Evans, Jackson, and Howard. Godwin, Brate, and Humphries are much less a commodity with Fitz, but Godwin does have the potential to put up big numbers pending coverage. Brate is a non-entity, and while Humphries always was, he'll no longer be a thorn in the side for Evans and Jackson owners.

Wait a minute....Godwin was scoring tds every game and wasn’t FM the qb when he almost had that monster game against Pitt?

I thought Godwin was having a good year with Fitz. Brate doesn't get as much love because Howard is so damn good. Why throw to Brate when they have one of the freakiest athletes in the game

On Godwin. He doesn't get targeted a lot by Fitz. He did in the Pittsburgh game because the Steelers focused on stopping Jackson, but in the prior two games, he wasn't a focal point, just one of many. In the game against the Bears, he didn't get targeted at all by Fitz, only Winston. Like I said, Fitz spreads the ball around more than Winston. Because of that, the only way Godwin will have been a viable start for you is if he scored a TD. Otherwise, you're looking at 3 or 4 for 45 or 50 kind of day. With Winston, he was targeted more... the only problem was that Winston couldn't get him the ball.

On Brate. Brate is a very good TE, that's why you throw to Brate. Just because someone else is better, it doesn't mean you completely alienate the other guy. Winston threw to Brate in the end zone a lot. Fitzpatrick did that with Howard. Like I said, Fitz spreads the ball around more so the target share will depend on the coverage/game plan. Outside of Evans getting the ball more than everyone else, the rest of the group is dependent on the defensive game plan.

Winston also threw very often to Humpries. That was a killer in a sense to fantasy numbers for others as well. Now, Humphries is a great WR for what he does, but he's the 4th WR on a team that has 6 viable receiving options. When he's targeted as much as he is with Winston, others suffer. Generally, that means Howard and Jackson. With Winston, the top 3 targets are generally Evans, Godwin, and Humphries. Outside of the Cleveland game where Howard had 8 targets, Winston didn't target him that much because he has a better rapport with Brate.

Another reason to target Brate over Howard? The Bucs OLine is "ok", so any help that the TE's can give them is a plus. Howard is a phenomenal blocking TE... Brate, not so much. When having two TE's on the field, Brate is more likely to be the one going out for the pass. The reason why Fitz throws to Howard more is because Fitz gets the ball out faster than Winston and doesn't need the line to hold the block as long.

Good stuff TB. Thanks

How do you see FMagic going forward? Do you think he will go back to monster games like the first two weeks and Bengals last week, or do you see more games like the Bears game in store?

Basically, in a 4 point td league, what do you see his floor and ceiling and what do you think he will probably be averaging per game? Thanks

Fitzpatrick has the ability to BLOW up because he can get the ball to Evans and DJax better. I think DJax supported him earlier in the year.

He can also implode as we know.

I am playing an 8-0 team this week with an allstar lineup and am considering playing Fitzmagic over Russell Wilson just on the account of the blowup.

I have mike evans so the combo is in play.

I just peaked at Tampa's schedule ROW and while not imposing few cushy matchups left. Panthers twice, Redskins, Cowboys, and an improved Saints secondary on tab. Best matchups are SF and the Gmen. Unfortunately Atlanta is week 17

Tampa's offense is designed to do what it's done all year, throw - throw again - then again - when you can't throw - throw again. Fitz+Winston is the #1 fantasy QB. That shouldn't change. Is he going to have a game like he did against Chicago? It's possible, but I think unlikely. The Bucs don't play that many good defenses the rest of the season. In terms of passing defense, Baltimore ranks 2nd, but other than that, there isn't a team that is on Tampa's schedule that ranks in the top third (top 12), in the NFL.

Tampa doesn't, and can't, run the ball. I see no reason why the norm for Fitzpatrick can't be 300 yards and 3 TD's. Heck, even 250 and 2 is a viable starting day in fantasy... plus he might sprinkle in 15-20 rushing yards.

Thanks. This has been my thinking which makes me think......I may need him at times to replace my Matt Ryan who sometimes sucks on the road outdoors and my Dak who has been inconsistent all year.,

As a luck owner who just needs a one week fill in, I'm not sure fitz@car is much better than say flacco at home vs pitt? I don't really want to waste FAAB if I don't have to.

For his career, Flacco averages about 14 fpg against the Steelers. I don't think it's outrageous to think that Fitz could double that. Still, for 1 week, I wouldn't spend significant FAAB on a bye week filler.

Well, unfortunately I can't start FitzWinston, I can only pick one. I was all in on Winston before the season even with the suspension and was looking/feeling like a genius until approximate 8 INT's ago and now that well has dried up. I was able to grab Fitz in a couple of leagues and will light cigars and leave rum for Jobu in the hopes he will take INT from my QB's.

I'm thinking about picking up Fitz as well, as riding with only Wilson just scares me since they're hardly throwing the ball anymore. Figure it's worth it for Fitz's ceiling.

I'm doing the same, Fitz over R Wilson. Hopefully with better results than last week when I put Winston over Wilson.

Ive got Cousins, who frankly may be a good nfl QB, but short of 2 games has just been a decent fantasy qb. Im starting Cousins this week only bc my opponent is weak due to byes and I think Ill ill need is a 20 pt game from my QB and dont want to risk a 6 pt game from fitz if he throws 3 picks and gets benched. BUT, if fitz lights it up this week he may be my starter rest of the way.
