Hardcore troubadour 12,588 Posted September 15, 2017 Brees has an out in his contract after the season. Could see Houston ponying up if Watson doesn't work out. Brees is a Texas boy.

It would be wild to see a team pursue a 40yr old free agent, even if it's Brees. As for Tom, I am pretty sure Bill has no hesitation cutting him if he feels he has lost it. NorthernVike 2,079 Posted September 15, 2017 As I said in the prediction thread. Brady's career ends before week 10. Ouch!
Strike 3,949 Posted September 15, 2017 Brees isn't even under contract for next year. If the Saints suck this year could they decide it's time to start rebuilding and let him go?
IGotWorms 3,302 Posted September 15, 2017 Oooh I like it. Now that's a good topic I'm going to say Brady because Garropolo is in the wings and we know the Pats can be ruthless even with treasured veterans. The wildcard: how much longer does Brees want to play? Brady's on record as wanting a few more years... how about Brees? Slight chance he retires before Brady gets axed. New Orleans has no one else at QB, right? Sure Brees is a free agent but they sure aren't acting like they'll let him walk.

Sure Brees is a free agent but they sure aren't acting like they'll let him walk. I have a feeling Brees and Payton will be gone next year. And wherever one goes, so will the other. Payton and Loomis fawked this team. Top three offense the last five years but top three worst defense the last five years. Add in the fact that the owner can't remember what he had for breakfast five seconds after he ate it, things are going to be shaken up. As far as back ups, we have none. They were really bad in the pre season games. Three and outs all game long. When Drew leaves, we'll be the next Browns for years to come.

ETA He was 40 when he signed with the Vikings

Brad GLuckman 518 Posted September 15, 2017 Just surprises me the Saints havent been drafting Brees' successor considering hes 40 and a free agent. These GMs are just awful. All in, every year, screw the future. Why teams with franchise guys dont try to copy what GB did with Favre/Rodgers is beyond me.

It's a pretty low odds play that you draft a replacement that works out. I would just as soon go all in on another ring. I mean the have one in what, 40 years? That was luck, not design.
Brad GLuckman 518 Posted September 16, 2017 Rodgers fell down to the Pack to everyone's surprise. That was luck, not design. There were plenty of people who said GB screwed up by not acquiring more talent for Favre to make a Super Bowl run. Im not saying every team can get a Favre/Rodgers situation. Just that they should try to at least plan for a transition instead of years of mediocrity. Bier Meister 1,512 Posted September 16, 2017 It's pretty hard to find one franchise QB, yet alone two yes, but this is the rare situation where you have the time to actually groom one instead of throwing them to the wolves
Brad GLuckman 518 Posted September 16, 2017 It's pretty hard to find one franchise QB, yet alone two Again, not saying the guy has to be Rodgers. But plan on grooming someone, instead of just going all in on a 40 year old with a team that is always 7-9 without any plans for his replacement.

All in, every year, screw the future. Why teams with franchise guys dont try to copy what GB did with Favre/Rodgers is beyond me. They try. But it's a crap shoot. The Saints got lucky once. It's a passing game. Imagine being in the wings of Bree's? In a complex offense. There may be three that can handle that pressure. I don't see the next decade of QB's handling it the way Brady, Bree's, and Rodgers did.

BunnysBastatrds 1,909 Posted September 16, 2017 Whats the plan, though? Just be the Browns when Brees retires? Pretty much. We got lucky. Really lucky when Bree's got picked up by us. The owner is dying. Bree's contract is up. So is Payton's. We've been 7-9 for three years. The wrighting is on the Dome. I can't see anyone coming in and rebuilding any time soon. Hope I'm wrong, but small market teams suffer under the way things are run. More Super Bowls have been played in New Orleans than any other city. No why???Money. And fun. And more money. iam90sbaby 2,120 Posted September 16, 2017 I think Bree's will significantly started to tapper off at the end of this season or beginning of next calling it quits after next year. Brady goes down in a blaze of glory in the 2019 season.
