++ UPDATE: 4-Game Suspension Upheld - 11 of 12 footballs NE used were deflated 2psi!

Recommended Posts

No just a little confused at your post. Got a source? Cause I wanna read it

Edit: had to dig a little to find it. Looks like 11 of 12 were under inflated. To me doesn't seem like a big deal cause apparently a lot of teams push the limit on the air in the balls. Aaron Rodgers over inflates his so that's illegal yet people don't seem to care. The slight under inflation of the ball would have no matter in any game. It would be the same as a player having a slightly different cleat than the others. Should the patriots be fined? Yea they should. Should it be blown up as big as it has been? Definitely not.

NE fans are ok with it. Got it.

Pffft.

I'm pretty sure that rational fans of any team don't care about it, one way or another.

It's whatever-is-smaller than a molehill.

That may be true, but a rule is a rule (thinking of the Billy Martin pine tar incident :bandana: )

Why have the rule if you're not going to enforce it? If NE can use some obscure rule to their advantage, why can't BAL and IND use a common one to theirs?

Not disagreeing here but the amount it has been blown up to is ridiculous. It's slightly deflated and they act like the patriots went paid off someone. A fine is the most that should come out of this. Not "oh they shouldn't be playing in the Super Bowl"

Every year, something like this happens. 2 Weeks feels like an eternity, and there's always a dig for the "controversial" story to debate prior to the big game. A large fine/loss of draft pick is in order for the Pats. Nothing more, nothing less. They were clearly the best team in the AFC and should play Seattle. We, the fans, must now suffer thru what will be an over exaggeration of a story for about the next 10 days.

I said that , "A large fine/loss of draft pick is in order for the Pats". So that means that I do not think cheating is okay.

What likely, irrational outcome do you suggest?

Don't worry, the NFL won't do a thing. Maybe a small fine to BB but that will be all.

I'm not worried, I am not even a Pats fan and could care less what happens to the team. But I'll ask you again, what do YOU really think SHOULD happen?

Well if this was MLB, Brady would be suspended and forced to miss the super bowl. No different than a pitcher getting caught doing illegal things to a baseball.

Of course not. He's not stupid enough to do it himself.

This is funny ! After the Patriots turned in their game balls to the referees they removed 2lbs per square inch of the required amount. Lol I bet the Patriots are laughing their a$$es off at the rest of the league. So they will lose a draft pick or two. Big Deal ! Oh no they will get fined a few 100k that will sting !

The balls were discovered deflated at halftime. The article I read doesn't say, but I hope the refs would've re-inflated them to spec before using them in the second half, and warned the Pats they'd be looking closely at them.

Typical Patriots BS, they just can't help themselves.

It's an obvious advantage if Brady has trouble gripping the fully inflated balls in the cold.

Thing everybody is complaining about is 2 psi. That is literally NOTHING when comparing psi. Now people who hate the patriots panties are in a twist over it. True it's against the rules and yes if the patriots are found guilty of tampering with it they should be fine. That said everyone is acting like this a major deal. It's not. Seattle has 6 players that were discovered using PEDs yet no one is calling them cheater. If a pitcher is caught tampering with the ball, which most do I've experienced that in both college and the minor leagues, they are either ejected from the game which is the worst or had whatever they were using to rub on the ball confiscated and they were fined. 2 psi under inflated on a football yes gives a SLIGHT advantage but that's it. Did not stop Blount from running all over Indy

The genius of it all to have 11 of 12 deflated to leave one for kicking.

GENIUS!

There is a big question that has to be answered here - when were the balls deflated?

If the balls were given to the refs 2:15 before the start of the game already 2 psi light and the refs used them, then that is not the Pats fault.

If the balls were checked by the refs as being fine and one of the Patriots staff took out 2 psi after certification then you have an issue.

Big difference between the two scenarios. Of course, it won't matter what the truth is. There are still a bunch of people, including morons in the media who think that the Pats got caught taping a walk-thru of the Rams.

BTW - has anyone every felt a ball at 13.5 psi vs. 11.5 psi?

Kicking balls are different, you moron. The refs hang onto those. Not sure why they don't keep all of the balls under their supervision. It could be easy to just take 24 balls (12 from each team) and mix them up after they are certified. Then swap the ball bags at half from one sideline to the next.

Haven't felt the difference between them but it isn't a big difference. And yes the real issue is when were they deflated. If it was found they were like that before the game cause the officials didn't test the actual psi instead just half assed the inspection then no fault should be brought to the patriots. Now if they tampered with it during the game yea I believe they should be fined for it

How come noone is saying this is the cheating bowl seeing as how a ton of Seattle players got caught using PEDs after their Super Bowl win last year

I'm about as shocked at that as the Patriots fanboys spinning it away and attacking anyone that would dare think cheating is wrong. Spin spin spin. Attack attack attack.

A full 2 lbs below regulation.

That's a lot.

Do you own a NFL football? Go inflate it to 13.5 lbs and then deflate it to 11.5. The difference is huge on the grip.

Have you done it? Cause last night me and a couple friends tried it. Yea there is a difference on the grip like I said there was. A slight advantage and as I've stated before which people who hate the patriots seem to keep over looking is that I do believe they should be fined. No one have I stated that it was ok. That being said there's a lot of other teams that have cheated more than the patriots yet don't seem to catch this much crap about it.

Now, take that ball and go out and play in the rain.

You'll see why it makes a big difference. The NFL is a gain of inches.

-.-'

I know there is a difference. Didn't I just saw that if they tampered with the ball during the game they should be fined? Not defending them at all here. They broke the rules and should be fined. However were these balls tampered with during the game or did the refs not check the psi in the balls before the game? To me that's the big question I want answered. Seems like everyone here suggests they shouldn't be playing in the Super Bowl because of it. I'm sure the patriots aren't the only ones who have done something like adjust the psi in the balls it it's windy and rainy
