***Official Seattle Seahawks Thread 2012***

Recommended Posts

Hey I was one of the first people to question Flynn's most recent big game in this thread. Long screen pass to Ryan Grant and Jordy Nelson putting on a clinic for Detroit DB's made up a HUGE portion of Flynn's stats. I'm under no delusions that Seattle's offense is anywhere close to Green Bays, no matter how much our young guys improve.

But compared to Hasselbeck, Whitehurst and TJax, Flynn and Wilson are upside. If that's sad then so be it, but it's just how it is. Don't think for one minute that I don't wish we had a 6'5" prototypical QB with a canon arm. I wish those kinds of players grew on trees. :(

Anyone looking at Doug Baldwin as a last pick flier? Carlson is gone, Flynn is in. He showed flashes last year and Rice will get most of the attention.

haven't looked at ADP's lately but I would be surprised if you could get Baldwin with a last pick. Love this kid. Sounds like his work ethic is really high, would expect him to get better this year, and have to figure that Flynn throwing to him is better than TJax throwing to him.

I know that TBBOM is pointing it out as well, but anybody can drive fast when put behind the wheel of a Ferrari. I'd throw for quite a few yards in that offense. Seattle's offense isn't anywhere near that. Flynn will be good, but he won't get anywhere near his average from those couple of games in GB in ANY single game this year, even if he plays all 16 of them. He'll likely end up around the middle of the pack but the Seahawks will show improvement on the whole. He's more Billy Volek than he he is Aaron Rodgers.

You might be right. But going from TJ and Whitehurst. Or Hasselbeck and no backup. To Flynn and 2 kids that the front office and coaching staff love their upside. Is a big improvement.

Even if Flynn doesn't end up really good. I think it'll be really easy to cut bait on him in a year or 2, or even let him just go away in 3 years. Knowing that they've been able to develope Wilson and Portis for a couple of years. This team is sooooo young at this point, that it doesn't really bother me if Flynn can't take them to the next level right away, because they have a backup plan that looks really good. And if Flynn does work out. It seems like a really good bonus to me.

I agree here. I think if your in ppr leagues, your gonna have to pull the trigger at least mid draft for this kid. He should be the first guy drafted at reciever from us, even over Rice at this point.

We all better get down on our knees and pray to Flynn. When I see Russell Wilson, I see a slightly less talented Seneca Wallace. He's not a sure thing like Andrew Luck. He is a mid round QB with major flaws. I can't believe I'm saying this, but our draft would have been vastly improved if we grabbed Ryan Tannehill in the first round. Russell Freaking Wilson. When so many better QBs with UPSIDE were available. Wilson is not getting better. And we are going short QB, take Kellen Moore, for crying out loud.

Even worse is having that dope Jon Gruden singing his praises. I've never seen such an overrated coach, talent evaluator, and color commentator in the same package; the Zero Threat. Gruden is an embarrassment. Have y'all seen those QB Camps things he does. The most cringe worthy TV since To Catch A Predator or Toddler & Tiaras. I stopped watching ESPN's draft coverage for many reasons, among them how Gruden loved every pick by every team in every round. You would think by round 7, there might be a player with a flaw or a bad pick. Nope. He loves everybody. Gruden is mentally retarded.

Tarvaris Jackson is not getting cut. I'm rooting for Portis to make the team over Wilson.

Oh, yeah. I'm frustrated. Shocking.

So close, so friggin close to taking the next step up to a truly contending teams. Just another injection of talent. Instead, we take a bunch of specialists and projects that may not be ready to make any meaningful contributions anytime in the near future, or ever. A wasted opportunity. I really hope some of the UDFA really pan out. I like Rishawn Johnson quite a bit at OG, and Jermaine Kearse is decent gamble at WR.

He is a mid round QB with major flaws.

What are Wilson's "major flaws" besides being one inch shorter than that suckass midget Drew Brees?

I watched every minute of every game he played in last year (4 of them live) and I'd like you to enlighten me what his major flaws are.... He has minor flaws that many youngsters have... but he has incredible work ethic and smarts...

I will admit that I don't know much about SEA, but I do know that they always have good talent on both sides of the ball but are always hampered by a craptastic to mediocre quarterback play...

You had a chance to take a unique talent when all you have at QB right now is suckass Tavaris Jackson and some guy who's played all of two games in his career...

The rest of the Seahawks draft may have indeed sucked like you say... but I can't trust your judgment based upon your irrational misevaluation of Russell Wilson's talent....

Yeah, and I watched just about every start of Russell Wilson's career for both college teams.

You are a guy that has watched both Flynn and Wilson up there in the north. Because I know deep down Wilson is not the answer. If Flynn can't be the guy, then we are doomed as a franchise. At least for the rest of my life.

Let me ask you this simple question. Undeserving QBs are going early first round now, year after year. 2nd round too. Reach after reach. Considering all this, why would Russell Wilson go mid 3rd round, and still be universally questioned as being taken too early? Why? Why didn't Wisconsin go undefeated and win the national championship? I mean, the Big Ten wasn't that great this year. Why is everybody proclaiming a 4th round project QB as anything but a 3rd string QB for the next few years? I have questions. :dunno:

I think I need to take a week off from football, and relax by mailing a couple thousand hand written threatening letters to Schneider and Carroll and Allen.

You know what, I think I'll avoid this thread for a little while, a hiatus. I'm in a really dark place when it comes to the current state of the team.

Have fun everybody, with posting and stuff.

Phillybear, I can understand some of the fustration for sure. I am upset myself somewhat.

Although, you are really on a cliff if you think Tannehill would have been better for us. You know this is wrong. :)

This Wilson pick does not set us back at all. IF Flynn does not work out, and this guy doesn't, we are STILL in a position to draft a 1st round prospect at QB next year or the year after.

We are taking gambles on QB that are not costing us much. I do think Flynn will be our QB we want anyway though.

I did have Wilson rated myself. I like the kid a lot. I really only question the size really. I agree though, that I would have been just as happy with K. Moore in the 7th though who I had rated over Wilson. But, K. Moore's arm strength must have really come into play to not have been drafted at all. That's his biggest issue.

Wilson is a smart QB with almost every tool I think. It will come down to IF he can over come his size at the NFL level. I think if he has the size of RG3, he would be just as good or better though. My views anyway. He also has a high release to help with his height issue.

I think he's way better then Seneca Wallace though. That's his floor.

You should take a step back like I did, and really review the first 5 guy's we picked. They are far better then I first thought.

Especially Turbin and Wagner.

Irvin to me is still the question mark. But, huge upside and you can't say he won't be exiting with all the speed.

wow. In a 12-team league that means he's being valued like a bench guy, nothing more. Maybe I'm not seeing this objectively but I think that's a steal. I would start him at WR3 with no hesitation. Maybe folks think he'll be shunted aside once Rice is playing again? What's Rice's ADP?

I'd rather have Baldwin then Rice. With a more accurate QB Mike Williams and Zach Miller could be roster worthy once again too.

I tuned out for a couple of days but heard the same thing on the radio that was pointed out earlier in this thread. There's even a story line up on NFL.com about how the Jets joking called the Hawks and chided them because the Hawks got Irvin 1 pick ahead of where the Jets were going to grab him. Who know's if it's true or not? :dunno: I also took a peek at him and would agree, good lord the guy gets off the line fast, reminds me of Javon Kearse when he was first hitting the league, just noticably quicker than the guys he's up against. I'm not sure you can waste a midlle 1st pick on a guy who is situational by nature, but if they can teach him to play the run and become a more all around defensive player, it might not be a bad pick afterall. I don't give a crap what Kiper says, he's the same guy who labled Jamarcus Russell a can't miss prospect...but I'm going to temper my criticism of the pick for a while until his game develops a bit more.

Turns out the Jets didn't even have him rated as a 2nd rounder.

I'm sure most the Hawks fans here check Fieldgulls regularly, but here are a couple interesting articles on Bruce Irvin:

This is an interesting perspective on Seattle "reaching" for him. http://www.fieldgulls.com/2012/5/2/2994239/seahawks-2012-draft-thoughts-bruce-irvin

Mostly just sounds like a homer trying to convince himself it was a good idea. Red Bryant's resigning and the Leo end position gives Irvin value that other teams wouldn't have. If the reports of other teams being poised to take him in the first were false or exaggerated, then it's irrelevant.

This was written by a West Virginia fan. He's kind of an idiot, but it touches on the unique defense the Mountaineers ran as well as offering reasons for some of Irvin's struggles early in 2011. http://www.fieldgulls.com/2012/5/1/2992488/bruce-irvin-a-wvu-fans-input

I'm still fairly shocked with the selection but I can't wait to see what the guy can do on the field.

Yeah because coming out and admitting the Seahawks took their player would do wonders for Quinton Coples. But if it makes you feel better...Oh and if you notice the Jets never deny actually calling the Seahawks after the Irvin pick as has been reported...

Well I think that's the fastest Seattle has ever gotten a 1st round pick signed. It's a good thing, Irvin needs to be in camp ASAP.

Seattle signed 8 guys today. The only ones left undone are the two 4th rounders.

This could be the fastest draft pick signings in history.

Kind of strange the 2 4th rounders are not signed. But kudos to Schneider for getting deals done this quickly and kudos to the owners and players for having a deal in place that looks like it will eliminate those long training camp holdouts.

I wish Mike Brown & the Bengals worked this quickly. Gets the youngsters in the facility on time & getting that important one on one time with coaches that is vital in getting some of these players immediate playing time.

Potential backup Robert Turbin is the only guy left unsigned. I expect that to get done early this week though.

It's nice to see the picks get signed and practicing this early, even if its just voluntary camp.

I havn't really heard any news coming out so far on the week.

But the 2 things I did get are 1: No injuries. A couple teams lost some players already. Baltimore really took a hit on D imo.

And the second thing I heard was that the top player that has shined so far was WR Ricardo Lockett.

The Titans rookies are all practicing, but only one has signed a contract, which I found weird.

You guys probably already heard (or just knew) but Caroll confirms Wilson will compete for a starting job.

It's just rookie camp, and it's not like the head coach would ever come out and say the guy sucks, but it's Hawk news.

At least our "reach" of a 1st round pick didn't report out of shape like San Fran's.

i hope wilson wins the job.

I'm hoping that Flynn proves he was more than just a clipboard holder for Aaron Rodgers. He's got a good running game & some nice options in the passing game up there in Seattle. Not to mention an up & coming defense that played exceptionally well last season for having a lot of young starters.

Good thing nobody had video of my dad beating my ass whenever Seattle turned the ball over. Back in the Dave Kreig era I was always a bright shade of black and blue during football season. :(

Let me bring a dose of reality.....you always suck always will suck and you are irrelevant in the NFL. But nice job reaching for players in the draft again.....enjoy another season with no Qb; no WRs and an average RB
