    One Disappointed Commish

Funny you should say that. Originally that is how it was setup. It changed about 5 years ago b/c some owners made the point that depending on the rule changes, it might change the way they drafted and therefore needed time to prepare before teh draft according to the changes.

    One Disappointed Commish

I commish a 12-team league that's been in existence for 7 years now. Most of the owners are all long-time friends who have known each other for a number of years, with the exception of a few. As usual, it was time for rule changes. We had lots of discussion and owners seemed very enthusiastic this year with some really good rule changes being proposed, including converting to a dynasty league and introducing IDPs. 15 proposed changes in total. With the proposed changes ready to go the deadline for voting was set...2 weeks for review and thought was given. The day before the dealine I sent out a reminder to everyone. The deadline came and went and 3 out of 12 owners (including me) submitted their votes. I sent a frustrated email to the league for not getting their votes in. I extended the deadline another 2 days. The new deadline came and only 1 additional owner submitted votes...for a grand total of 4 out of 12 owners. In order for rule changes to pass we need 2/3 of the majority to vote in favour....obviously no rule changes passed this year. This is disappointing to say the least. Any thoughts on why this might have happened? Has anyone experienced a similar situation in their league? I'm wondering if the league is becoming too complacent.

    League Conversion

I commish a league that's going into it's 6th year now and many of the owners have played together for much longer. Current setup is 12-team 3 player keeper. We'll be voting on rule changes in the next week and one is a proposal to convert to a dynasty league and possibly expand to 14-teams. Does anybody have any experiencing converting a keeper league to a dynasty league? I'm almost positive this will pass and will need to start laying the ground work to get things in order. I'm curious to know what worked and what didn't work b/c I anticipate lots of potential stumbling blocks.

    What to do....

PLaying in a 12 team 3 player (QB, RB, WR) keeper league. Standard scoring. I have the first overall pick. Many of the top RBs will be back in the draft pool this year b/c their contracts have all expired. I've been offered the following trade: Maroney or McGahee and Stallworth or Gates and # 9 overall and #117 overall for #1 overall If you take the deal, your RB and WR/TE keeper are set - but would I be giving up too much? My concern is really that McGahee may not produce top fantasy numbers this year in BAL.

    Green Bay to use "Cut-Block"

Nope - cut blocks are perfectly legal in the NFL. A defensive player can barely breathe on a quarterback without getting a 15-yard penalty ... a wide receiver can't be hit when he goes across the middle (until he has the ball) ... a defensive back can't bump a receiver after five yards....but it's still ok to take out DL and LBs at the knees.

    Green Bay to use "Cut-Block"

I've never been a fan of the cut-block - it is too dangerous. Personally I think it is totally dirty. I played DE in University and had my knee blown out because of a cut block. I missed an entire season and had to learn to walk again. The league does everything possible to "protect" QBs, so much so that you can barely hit them now without getting a penalty. Why not outlaw the cut block which is equally - if not more - dangerous and serves no real purpose other than to injure.

  11. I'm curious to know how people are projecting for JLewis and M Anderson. I'm thinking this is going to be a RBBC. Using the method I came up with in my previous post I get the following: LEWIS 706-2 Anderson 712-8 Thoughts? I like this example for a Wildman session because it has 2 bona fide starters, one with a new team and a new system and the other with stiff competition.

    A Rookie at Doing Projections

This is going to be my 7th season playing FF. I've done quite well over the years winning the league title twice and finishing in the top 3 two other years. Generally I depend on various sources to pull together my projections and then build my draft plan and tiers from there. This year I decided that I was going to start doing my own projections. I've always shyed away because I was never sure how people came up with the numbers they did. I've asked people before how to project and the answer I generally get is "What do you think X player is going to do this season?" Well, that doesn't help. Projecting JLewis to rush for say 850 yards and 4 TDs is not just pulled out of the air. There is obviously a 'method' to projecting. This 'method' is what I would like to learn so that I am in complete control (for the most part) and whatever happens is a result of what I did and not the result of someone else's good or bad projections. So here's where I began.... For every team I recorded the 2005 stats for QBS, RBs, WRs & TEs. For QBs I also determined completion %, TD% and INT% For RBs I calculated the percentage of the time they were used for rushes (# rushes for player X / # team rushes) and their TD% For RBs, WRs & TEs I calculated TD% and the % of total receptions. I then used a 3-year weighted moving average to project the number of rushes and passing attempts for 2006. Based on these numbers I then calculated number of passes, rushes and receptions for each player and then determined yards & TDs. This was my first attempt at projections. Overall I am quite pleased but I've already found a number of holes in this system. How do you account for players on new teams or for new coaches with different systems? What about age? What about players who had an extraordinary year in 2005 or a really bad one that is completely out of character? What about if a player was injured last year? And how do you project for rookies? Any feedback on the system I put together or tips for improving are greatly appreciated. I'd really like to be able to put together a solid method to use moving forward.

Game Day Ritual Next Generation of Fantasy Footbal

Bump... Doesn't anybody else out there think this is an amazing league to join. You'll be part of history - the first to play the new age ff. There's gotta be more owners out there who want to play GDR who didn't make league #1. League #2 has 3 teams - can't we fill it? Come on guys!

Bump - for updates. Chemboy - how is League #2 doing. Last I heard there were only 3 teams. Surely there are more owners who want in on the action for a second league...
