Woman complaining about not getting hired on Linkedin

Recommended Posts

She has an 8 year gap on her resume. In a field where the focking tech she was working on is long dead and gone. She did not keep up with the new trends. Has went on multiple interviews and gets pissed when they don't call her back. The things they expect from her she has no focking clue how to do. She isjJust a basic rudimentary level that literally anyone with a home computer could be at given a little bit of time. HOWEVER......she DESERVES a chance to do it because.........she took time off to raise her kids. Yea..just slide right back in there. After 8 years. Could any of you do that at your job? Could you be like....ohh,,,yea,,you should hire me because I had kids. I know...I know...setting up fireworks displays, being a racecar driving astronaut cowboy looks hard. But really. I can do. it. I stayed at a holiday inn express last night.

Learning skills is easy, 8 year gap on the resume should not be a deal breaker even in the tech field when you do not keep up.

For example a good programmer who last used visual studio 2010 and asp.net would still be a good programmer if hired to work in visual studio 2017 and .net core 2.0.

She might have a right to complain and that is completely dependent on how good she was prior to her 8 year gap.

My wife went back after 12 years. She didn't think she could do it, but it is like riding a bike in some fields.

Why would you ride a bike in a field? :dunno:

Bullshitt. Literally the tools she would be using now. Did not exist then. Hell the concepts of dashboards was not even around then. Also if I am going to hire someone to do things long term I and teach i am going to teach them to someone who is just entering the workforce. They can A. be had for less and B. have a longer lifespan in the industry. Sorry. But an 8 year gap is freaking massive. MASSIVE and not something that can be picked up by just taking some quick classes. If it could ANYONE could do it.....like interns...foooorrrr freeeeeee

My wife took maybe 11 years off to raise our kids. She had been a materials engineer in a semiconductor fab; the technology changed drastically in that time, as had the availability of jobs (there are far fewer fabs in the US/Phoenix now, most are in Asia). Her last job before "retiring" involved programming and she was able to leverage that into an applications engineer type job with a small SW firm; she currently is a business analyst in sales ops at that original semiconductor company. She makes good money but not Geek Club money like she would if she had stayed in that engineering role, but we made the decision as a couple to have her stay home. She does not regret a thing and actually likes what she does now more than what she used to do (most days...). She does not expect to get paid what she would had she stayed an engineer. She would call this woman an unrealistic biotch.

Dashboards have been around longer than 8 years, hell, tableau itself is close to 20 years old and it is not the first dashboard software.

An 8 year gap is nothing for someone that was a good employee.

If you are going to take an 8 year baby vacation, you damn well do things to show youve kept up. Take classes. Attend seminars. Be active in professional organizations. Freelance part time.

Instead she chose to watch sponge bob. Fock her.

Double true. Plus, it's not like the stuff is complicated.

I'd be more worried about her whining when she's trying to get a job and you're getting her best behavior.

That is the tough part, if she was a poor employee and using this an excuse why she could not get a job that is concerning. But an 8 year gap is not concerning even if they did not keep up on current technologies.

The reason why I have this belief is because in the oil industry we bring in field personnel that have no experience in software and teach them tableau.

How good they are in their new role has nothing to do with previous skills, but is more related to how hard they are willing to work.

Oh Id rather work In a focking coal mine than stay home with a kid.

Im just saying. If youre going to vacate the field for the better part of a decade, stay current somehow.
