All Time Greatest Video Games ***The Draft***

Recommended Posts

Ive never even heard of it.

It was the first popular FPS and was also the first FPS with a mod scene.

How are you running a video game draft without knowing about doom.

Ok honestly, I think Ive heard of it.....maybe. Like it rings a bell, but I have zero idea what it looks like or what the point of the game is. Im assuming it was before my time.

I hate video games. My last console that I personally owned was a Sega Genesis.

Whats FPS? Loose the acronyms.

Why are you in a video game draft?

This is a contributing factor to the difficulty of getting serious participants to these drafts. FPS is not an obscure acronym and is an extremely popular genre of video games.

It took damn near a week to get 12 people to participate. If MTSkibum was accepting resumes wed never do anything round here.

I was never a PC gamer which I think Doom was. Wasn't Doom ran on Wolfenstein engine ?

I was trying to think back off the top of my head, but yes Wolfenstein predated Doom

and if we are talking PC Wizardry is the grandfather of RPG's

You guys sound like the Schmoes lauding Otto Graham as the best QB ever.

back then games were made on floppy disks, not streamed over the interwebs kid

we had to connect a phone to our computer to go on BBS (if your computer even had a sensor pad)

we hat things like the C64, the Tandy 5000, the Intellivision and the Colecovision, the IBM Peanut/jr and the Apple 2e

My first pick will be the only game on the list that I personally have never played, but I know how important it is in the history of gaming. Before there was World of Warcraft the original open world game was RuneScape. Without RuneScape there would be no Elder Scrolls or WOW. They were the original creators that showed us just how massive and in depth a game could be. Keep in mind this was released in 2001. It truly was groundbreaking.

Here are some RuneScape notables:

-The most played video game

-Most updated game

-Over 200 million users and still one of the most active games online since its creation in 2001

-Most popular F2P game in the world

-Basically number one in any category

wow you are just too young bro, pretty much everything you said was false

All 3 of the games below are considered where the MMO tree began and each sprang different directions of offspring. All 3 were Open World.

Ultima online (and Richard Garriot who is one of the founders of cRPG's) was the first mainstream MMO in 1997

Everquest and Asheron's Call followed in 1999

WOW followed the EQ model and had exactly zero in common with Runescape (I have played MMO's since 1994 fwiw)

Runescape followed the Ultima model a little more with the Freedoms of Asheron's Call

ESO followed a little bit of EQ mixed with its own game world, I'd say it is most similar to RIFT of any other title

as far as first and longest running MMO

Meridian 59, still going

Runescapes' numbers are artificially inflated as they have counted the same account by last check over 6 times each

still its a good pick

Someone needs an update.

Ultima and Meridian have both had numerous developers and stints of being offline. Doesnt count as longest running. Both are also a blip in the radar in comparison to RuneScape.

And are you really saying WOW wasnt influenced by RuneScape?

Wolfenstein 3D May 5, 1992

I knew that Wolfenstein was first which is why i included "popular" in my post. Maybe, popular is incorrect as well. But it is the first FPS that many people played.

yeah - yeah - I knew Wolfenstein was first too... but DOOM was an even bigger commercial success and went across more platforms... if you're gonna' take Wolfenstein over Doom, then you may as well go all the way back to Duck Hunt.
