http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160803006594/en/Nike-Focuses-Golf-Innovation-Footwear-Apparel

EAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--NIKE, Inc. (NYSE:NKE) announced today that it will accelerate innovation in its Golf footwear and apparel business and will partner with more of the world’s best golfers. With this new focus, Nike Golf will transition out of equipment - including clubs, balls and bags.

“We’re committed to being the undisputed leader in golf footwear and apparel,” said Trevor Edwards, President, Nike Brand. “We will achieve this by investing in performance innovation for athletes and delivering sustainable profitable growth for Nike Golf.”

“Athletes like Tiger, Rory and Michelle drive tremendous energy for the game and inspire consumers worldwide,” said Daric Ashford, President of Nike Golf. “Over the past year the MM Fly Blade Polo, the Flyknit Chukka and Air Zoom 90 have all connected strongly with golfers. We’ll continue to ignite excitement with our athletes and deliver the best of Nike for the game.”

Rory might have his Titleists back in his bag already.

Good, equipment is much different than apparel. They do the latter well but not the former

Never liked Nike equipment, wouldn't have played it for free... Rory is still owed a shiat load of $$$ from them - so now he's going to get paid from both them and his new company - crazy.

Garbage clubs. Liked the balls though. Them and Calliway were making a niche to Titlest and Bridgestone balls.

Never played the clubs, but the balls were ok I guess.

I have some of their golf shirts and pants. Nothing wrong with them. In fact, their golf apparel is generally more conservative than some of the other outlandish ghetto wear they have.

Meh, not really a fan of Nike clothes. For generic synthetic tee shirts there are better deals at costo, for Polo shirts I would rather wear Roundtree and York, they are cheaper, look better, and do not have the swoosh.

Yes you can definitely do cheaper but what I'm saying is their stuff isn't bad. Their equipment is just flat out terrible though

I'd never played their clubs before, but bought a Vapor driver a few months ago and I love it. Of course, I could have waited 3 months and saved $250. Ugh.

Maybe Tiger puts the Scott Cameron back in the bag and it fixes that part of his game? Putting more than anything else is mental.

2 things that most noticeably changed after he switched equipment, and it wasn't his irons.. TW was never the same after he went to graphite in his driver and after he ditched the Scotty Cameron in favor of the Nike Method putter.

The thing I hate about Nike golf balls:

When putting, I like to use the lettering on the ball as a line to "line up" the put... line the putt starting at the the hole, back to a spot on the green, back to the lettering on the ball, back through the straight line etched on the putter... and as long as I putt through that line (and with the right speed), the ball **should** goes exactly where I wanted it to.

Nike has a swoosh on the ball... it isn't a straight line the way Titleist, etc are and you can't really use the logo as a "line".

Never found a nike golf ball that i liked and have played callaway clubs forever and havent had the need to change. Maybe, after i quit playing softball and start getting serious about golf again, i would investigate different brands....but not nike now....LOL

Not a fan of Callaway or Bridgestone balls.. Will play Titleist if I have to, but I'm a total Srixon convert now - those are the schnitz.

I play Srixon as well. even though I've stopped losing golf balls, I still don't play the most expensive.

I play Srixon Marathons

Nike dri fit stuff is okay, but other than that, everything they make is garbage.

They're just a very good marketing company

Smart move, same with adidas, they both make awesome shoes and clothing isn't R&D intensive like golf clubs. They were never going to catch titleist on the high end of golf balls or Srixon/Bridgestone in the mid level.

I bought adidas boost sneakers and golf shoes and they are amazing. most comfortable shoes i've ever worn.

I just got some UA golf shirts and think they are up there with ping and the nicest golf shirts i have.

Think im going on 14 or 15 years with my Hogan Apex Edge Pros... amazing irons, wouldn't ever want to replace them. I did recently get Ping D/3W and have a nike hybrid 3 that i don't love but don't hate enough to replace as i tend to just hit long irons anyways.

Bridgestone B-330RX are awesome golf balls. I have them one notch below the Pro V1's... I also played the new Snell balls that are direct marketed and created by one of the ProV1 titleist designers... Very good balls as well and in that mid tier price of $30-35/dozen

I've never cared for the dimple pattern nor my fairway wedge spin on the B-330 balls. They also scuff with ease - same problem with Titleist balls. I wouldn't play Bridgestone for free - when I get them I give them away.

Got some free sleeves of the new Taylor made ball recently. Going to try them out tomorrow

Project A I think. Felt soft when putting in the house. I had emails from taylor I guess from previous promos and I just had to answer a quick survey about my game and then I could put email referrals for others and I just kept putting alternate emails of mine. That was a while ago and he balls came just last week.... Wonder if any of my relatives whose addresses I put down got my other sleeves :D

They are OK, my brother played the project A's for a bit... I got a case of Callaways Hex Chromes as a gift last season and they were OK as well. For the most part if the balls aren't rocks they are fine, but i like the bite on ProV's that just isn't there on the competition

Cruz (or wheover)....Give me a scouting report on the Srixons (or any other ball) when compared to the Pro-V1X (which is all I've played in recent years).

If I'm looking for an area to improve in that could be ball related, it's that 20 yard chip from the tight lie and the situation dictates 10 yards of flight and 10 yards of run out with the 56 degree wedge......my most consistent miss is getting too much check up and ending up 5 feet short...........But I don't want to sacrifice any spin with the ball, as I love my wedge control overall.

Yes, I know the answer is to work on that 20 yard shot....I'm just fishing for ball info.

* For reference, let's agree: Titleist Pro-V1 is a Srixon Z-Star & Titleist Pro V1x is a Srixon XV

* I would ask, why do you play the Pro-V1x? It's what the pros play, everybody else is doing it, you really just do like them?

* I play in the same conditions and on the same types of grasses you do down here, so I know how balls react differently here... If your problem target area is the 20 yard chip, I'd suggest you change balls and get away from the V1x.

The V1x is a low spinning ball. It's designed with higher compression and it's designed for higher swing speeds... You can clip is as perfectly as a shot can be clipped, it simply isn't going to bite like a regular Pro V or a Z-Star is going to. I personally play the Z-Star, which is Srixon's version of the Pro V. These are 3 piece balls designed for swing speeds under 108 mph and with thinner covers. The are noticeably much brighter and whiter than their Pro V counterparts... These balls have phenomenal teeth from 100 yards and in and they in fact putt too soft some say. The Z-Star also tend not to balloon as the Pro V does in our windy conditions... If you're worried about distance - the Z-Star is as long, if not longer, than the Pro V...... But what's most noticeably different about this ball is it's durability. This ball can go 18 holes and look like it just came out of the sleeve - and you can play it for 3 rounds with ease... Trying doing that with a Pro V - those things often look like they came out of a river just after 5 holes........ Now I know you may not like the idea of getting away from the VX1 and going to a higher spinning ball - but trust me, you will be glad you did. The 4 yards or so you give up in tee distance is not even going to matter when you factor into what you're going to get out of performance around the greens.... I will say this though - if you spray it, these balls will go farther off line, simply bcoz they spin more - but that comes with it.

But, if you're insistent on playing a low spinning XV1 type ball - check out the Srixon XV. It has all the great aesthetic and durable qualities of the Z-Star, but it is the premium, low spinning version for Srixon. I have personally found I hit these higher than the VX1 and I also noticed that these are just as long, if not longer, than the same VX1.

Probably the best feeling driver ever played was the TM R5 Dual... Man that was a sweet feeling driver, maybe too sweet really.... But that is a nice looking driver Srixon has - I've not hit it yet, let me know how it goes.

The honest answer on the V1X and why I play it is pretty straight forward.

I graduated into being able to afford a premium ball right around the same time I started being good enough to control the ball around the greens.....So while it wasn't literally overnight, imagine how drastic the performance difference would be if you sucked at chipping and pitching and used Warbirds on Monday, then learned how to chip and pitch and used ProV1Xs on Tuesday.....Needless to say, I was convinced Pro-V1X's were the greatest ball ever invented...And at that time, I still sprayed it a bit, so the X made more sense in my mind than the Pro-V1....And truth be told I just haven't looked anywhere else.

I don't care too much about playing what the pros play. My clubs demonstrate that. While I do have brand name clubs, I go with what I feel good using....That means my last 3 drivers have went Callaway, Ping, Nike. My hybrid is Adams. My irons are Callaway. I have a Titleist vokey wedge. In short, if I feel like I'm performing with it, I go with it.....within reason. I wouldn't feel like myself if I used a mallet putter for instance.

The ball though...I did have a 2-3 month dalliance with TM Penta's (got some for free). I loved the action around the greens. Then someone gave me a case of Pro-V1X's and I forgot about them.....I've kind of stayed away from investigating it because I get a bit obsessive about that stuff. It's why i was afraid to get an adjustable driver until recently.....But everything you write makes sense. My swing speed with the driver is in the 90-95 mph range. I'm not one to sweat 5 yards in length. I don't spray it much off the tee, and I don't spray it at all with my irons.

Sounds like I should be going ZStar or ProV1.

Nowhere in that post did I tell you how good I am at golf.

But to answer your question.....not really. And I am pretty damn good at golf. I haven't been keeping up with my handicap, but I'm starting back up now and I am willing to bet I hit single digits by the end of the year.

I haven't actually bought a sleeve of balls in years.

My dad plays golf daily and finds a dozen or more balls every week. He only keeps the the Srixons and gives me everything else

I also have a friend who's a superintendent at a local club who gives me a full box of used Pro V's every time we play together.

Personally, I'm not a ball hunter at all. I don't like to waste time searching.

I prefer the Pro V's over everything else.

Not just you, but anyone who doesn't swing it at least 105 mph is actually hurting themselves playing Pro Vx1's. The effect is somewhat like removing dimples form the ball bcoz you don't generate enough speed to compensate for the lift you are giving up - result is a ducking ball flight..... The regular Pro V or Z-Star will spin more, stay in the air longer, compress more and spin more from 100 and in... I have an average swing speed of 102 and I notice I play my best golf with the Z-Star/Pro V over the lower spinning Vx1's or XV's.

But I'm telling you - try the Z-Star. You will be shocked with how durable and aesthetically pleasing they are.. Once you play a couple rounds with them you will see a Pro V and think it looks dingy.

It's funny: all the 15's lie about being 6's, and all the 3's lie about being 10's.

You've sold me. I've read most of this before in passing, but it was probably a secondary point to whatever my mission was at the given time. I'll grab a dozen this week.

I'm playing Sugar Tree on Saturday. My last time out there, I was ridiculously hungover. Somehow in a fog, I was even through 8. Then I think I made quad on 9. Then my hungover kicked in outside in 100 degree heat, and I shot something like a 50 on the back.

Do they still have x-outs?

Ha, they do... Well sort of. Now days you see what they call "logo overruns" - which is basically the same thing. Pretty much the exact same ball performance wise, but they have ink imperfections or promotional stamps on them.
