Hit on Odell

Recommended Posts

Was it dirty?

It really looked like defender had head up and measured a direct hit to knee.

It looked to me like the defender was losing his balance, and still was able to hit above the knee. Of course, you can't hit high either! Either way, it didn't look good, they are saying an ankle sprain, but looked like his knee.

Son of a B I just had my big money draft and was surprised OBJ fell to me at 8 in a full PPR. I knew I should have drafted around Labor Day.

This is what happens when you fine guys for shots at the shoulders and above.

Sweep the leg.

Sounds like he escaped major injury. He just tweeted out "Thank you" with prayer hands. X-ray results were negative. He came back out for the second half in street clothes with no noticeable limp.

I've lost so much respect for OBJ over the last year. I didn't realize he was such a drama queen, head case. He's one of the most talented WRs I've ever seen but he is his own worst enemy.

So many on here complaining about his diva attitude but I welcome it.

Some of the greatest WRs I've ever seen were total divas and I don't think OBJ is any worse. He hasn't thrown any teammates or coaches under the bus yet.

I think the way he was able to laugh at himself over the kicking net incident speaks volumes also.

I think you guys are overreacting to his "head case" label.

The kicking net was one of the big reasons I started losing respect for him. At first I thought it was funny but then he kept running with it. He just seems odd to me now. Hopefully it doesn't affect his career because he's amazing on the field.

Honestly since "The Catch" I've watched a young WR with astronomical expectations, for the most part, deliver.

The kid plays every week with a huge bullseye on his jersey and it's been that way since "The Catch". I don't recall ever a young player going through what he has gone through and still be as successful as he is.

I totally understand where you're coming from, he seems immature on the surface and I definitely agree but for reasons I stated above there's plenty of reasons to be impressed with him as well.

From reading post game comments, OBJ didn't have a problem with it. However, Giants S Landon Collins said it was the kind of hit you just don't do. Um, seriously????? I shake my head.

I disagree.

What I find the most fault with him specifically was the playoff game. Knowing full well that GB was going to be by far the coldest game he has ever played in, he should have gone straight there early and acclimated himself to the weather instead of taking that mini vaca down south.

Even a few days getting your body used to the cold, and getting your hands used to catching the ball in the cold, could have made such a difference. Instead it was so clear that he was in over his head with the weather.

I don't mind a guy being a diva or taking a mini vaca when they have the time afforded, but a true competitor should have realized that he wasn't ready for that playoff game and he should have taken it upon himself to realize that and do whatever he could to address it. Not going down and hanging on a boat trip in the sun.

Once again I think you're over analyzing with the microscope. They had the day off and he wasn't the only Giant that went on that trip, veteran Victor Cruz was there too so why does OBJ get all of the blame.

It was their day off after a big win. These guys are well connected they can be in Miami one day and in Green Bay the next. Who cares?

Weird how Gronk can act almost the same way and everyone loves him. It's just Gronk being Gronk. OBJ does 1 thing and it's magnified and criticized constantly.

Difference is Gronk does it on a random day in April. OBJ and Cruz did it before a big playoff game. Gronk isn't just being Gronk the week of a playoff game. He's doing everything possible to prepare for an important game.

Gronk has played in cold weather games; it's not the same. That's a stupid comparison.

Are you actually aware that OBJ has never once in his life played in a cold weather game even remotely close to that? This was not just any normal game day, it was something that he has never seen before. So you're wrong to say that they're well connected enough that they can get to GB, because it's not about just getting to GB. He had an opportunity to spend 3 days in GB and acclimate his body and prepare for what he was about to experience. That added prep time could have made a huge difference.

This isn't an issue of "a day off" either, because the term "day off" is only in regards to minimum obligations. If I was his employer, I would have no basis to criticize the trip because it was his day off. However, that's not what this is about. This is about whether he has the will to be a great player. If a player has a will to be a great player, then they don't care if they have a day off if they identify the need for extra prep time. But instead he decided to take advantage of his "day off" and went into this game willfully unprepared, and it showed.

OBJ seems a bit whiny and I certainly don't get that from Gronk. Gronk seems like a tough guy. OBJ seems more emotional.

This is kinda my point about over analyzing...

You're talking about a playoff game which is meaningless for us fantasy players...

OBJ gets A LOT of slack but just look at the production. His 1st three year totals have to be up there with the GOATs.

I was only responding to your statement about welcoming his diva attitude and about how some of the best at the position have been divas. That wasn't related exclusively to fantasy.

From a fantasy standpoint, I agree with you though. Although I've never owned him, I'm fully able to rate him fairly irrespective of my personal feelings about him as a player. I would have no problem selecting him at his current ADP, but I just don't like lumping him together with some of the previous "diva" WRs that I have more respect for at the moment.

I've owned Moss, TO, and Ocho all in their primes and those were some of the most fun seasons I ever had playing fantasy football :)

NFL has literally become the No Fun League.

Again, not talking about fantasy on the OBJ assessment. And I've only never owned him because I haven't had an opportunity to, not because I've been avoiding him.

But don't label me a "No Fun League" guy when I'm criticizing a guy for taking a vacation (whether it's a day off or not) instead of devoting extra prep time to what I feel is a valid concern going into this next week's game, and then playing horribly exactly like a lot of people thought he would. You don't get to make excuses after the fact if people brought up the specific issue before hand and you chose to take the personal time anyway.

I'm not referring to this, I agree with you but for the most part OBJ receives a fair amount of criticism because of his behavior on/off the field. Aside from that 1 game with Norman I don't think he's any worse than the aforementioned divas that's all.

It's a separate observation.

where are defenders supposed to hit anyone anymore? hip only is acceptable? offensive players lean down and forward so cant hit at chest level. cause the head is there. Cant hit at knee or below cause the players get mad. Only hips or thighs it seems.

they need to get past this.

solution:tell people to quit whining about hits or have them play with no helmets. human instinct will take over in the end .

That whole dropping to his knees before getting to the locker room thing was 100% "look at me". He did it for the cameras.

Drama Queen.

Love the talent and skill.

Hate the diva distractions.

If you get under his skin you can take him out of his game.

Thought proposing to the net was hilarious.

Don't think he's going to change - what you see is what you get: A mercurial head case top 5 talented wr.

Mara better pay him next year or things will go south in a big way. I would sell him for top dollar right now if I had any copies in dynasty.
