NFL: 11 of 12 Pat's balls under inflated.

Recommended Posts

If what Belichick said is plausible in any way (and he welcomed anyone to recreate this themselves) then Goddell should be fired. Why the hell hasn't the NFL investigation talked to Brady? why hasn't the NFL conducted these tests? They could have done this themselves and made this a non-story five days ago.

Fantastic rebuttal fock you!! :overhead: suck it haters ...

You believed it!!!!

Amazing that the other 12 balls the Pats had all managed to comply with NFL standards at halftime and after the game. It's a miracle!

I'd like to see someone else do the tests but the balls at halftime would not have been just been rubbed down like the ones the Pat's gave the refs before the game. The ones at half time would already have been cooled down and then inflated so, they would not have lost the pressure during the game.

As for the Colt's footballs, they may not rub the footballs down right before the refs get them.

I would find it dumb for Belichick to lie about this as the NFL will surely want to see the same procedure carried out to see if they are telling the truth.

No need for any further investigation by the NFL.

Belicheat rubbed the balls and they warmed up enough that when you take them out into the atmosphere they find their equilibrium, and that's when they become illegal.

Case closed.

Nice how he set them straight on spygate too. 85000 people watched him video tape signals ....same thing many teams were doing. He had the evidence and he finally got to address it. The reason the NFL destroyed it. You haters can go pound sand.

They didn't cheat, he knows it, on to Seattle fockers :middlefinger:

We show up, they win. Pretty easy. ;)

'04 was a long time ago.

Brady and Wilfork are the only current Patriots with rings. That first run ended during the '04 season, this new bunch are quickly turning into the 90's Buffalo Bills but, not quite as good.

I didn't see Billy's pressure today. Isn't this his second one on the topic? Why would he all the sudden personally know more today about it than yesterday? Why didn't he bring these new facts up the first go round? Me thinks he and his PR team got their heads together and came up with a plan.

watch it then talk...he spent his last three days figuring their routine out instead of prepping his great hard working best the AFC has to offer team for the Superbowl. Just to shut up a bunch sore losing clueless whine bags.

The NFL has nothing because there is nothing.

What an embarrassment the league and the media has been.

They beat these teams with toughness and superiority from coaching to grit and determination.

Like every year.

I will listen to it eventually, having to much fun right now listening to music, drinking beer, watching golf, and...browsing the internet.

Which leads me to this. I read this thread first and thought, damn, Bill must have set the record straight. Then I went to Twitter, profootballtalk, espn, etc. and everybody is making fun of it, laughing at Bills attempt. There are memes of Belichick as Bill Nye the Science Guy and My Cousin Vinny in the background. And then everybody is questioning...ummm Bill....you do realize The Colts balls were fine after all that pressure change right? :dunno:

yup watch it and get back to me. Bottom line is, if the NFL has anything well find out. Bills pretty confident they won't.

Hammers back on spygate too, every one was doing and bill knows. The real reason the evidence was destroyed.

That team worked their balls off and doesn't deserve the schit their going through.

Well, if Bill said so...

nope, it will be what the NFL says. They are the final decider. My money is on them finding the pats clean.

Belichick and Patriots went through the process the Pats normally go through when they prepare the footballs. They rub them down before handing them over to the refs. He said they tested the pressure during the test they did. the rubbing up of the footballs actually made the pressure inside the football rise 1 psi. SO when they gave the footballs to the ref, he may have measured the pressure and then the pressure would have gone down. then when it hit the rain and colder weather outside it could have gone down further. As for the colts, no one knows how they prepared their footballs. They may have rubbed them down the day before. No one is sure if the pressure of the Colts footballs dropped a little or too. But maybe they were inflated higher and still stayed within the allowable pressure. But Belichick encouraged reporters to see for themselves by doing their own testing. He also said they had different players handling the footballs and no one could tell the difference between the footballs with a 1 psi drop. He said that some could feel a little difference in the 2 psi drops but even then players were making mistakes when trying to tell the difference.

Joe Theisman is the only guy I know who also tried to compare the difference in footballs with different pressures and he said he had trouble telling the difference. And you have to realize that Brady was in a game and not trying to feel the difference in the pressure while everyone doing a test now, is trying to tell the difference in pressure KNOWING that the balls they are holding are different pressures.

When this story first broke, I was thinking the Patriots had deflated the footballs but Belichick played out a scenario that they tested and now its the NFL's job to disprove it by running the same tests and also producing any evidence that the balls were deflated by a Patriot employee. If the NFL refs tested the footballs and had the footballs in their possession until they were handed over to the ball boys, I can't really see a scenario where the Patriots could deflate 11 balls. There has to be cameras that would have seen the ball boys on the sidelines deflating the footballs. And my gut tells me that Brady would want to feel the footballs after any air was taken out just to be sure they felt OK. You really wanted to trust a ball boy with taking the air out and the next time you feel the football is when the center hikes it to you? I thought they could have switched out the footballs completely somehow but the ref initials all the footballs.

I don't see how the NFL could punish the Pats if their is no evidence at all that they did it. But Goddell is so conscious about what the public thinks that he could do something drastic like suspend Belichick or Brady for a year.

Perhaps the real motivation behind Ballghazi.

The New England Patriots’ prevention of fumbles is nearly impossible.

Yesterday I investigated whether or not the New England Patriots outperform expectations in bad weather. I had several recommendations to look at home and road data, as opposed to just home data. Mulling whether or not to undertake that further (time consuming) analysis, I watched this video:

On Wednesday, I investigated whether the New England Patriots outperform expectations in bad weather and found that, yes, they do. Then I remembered this remarkable fact: The 2014 Patriots were just the third team in the last 25 years to never have lost a fumble at home! The biggest difference between the Patriots and the other two teams that did it was that New England ran between 150 and 200 more plays this year than those teams, making the Patriots stand alone in this unique statistic. Based on the desire to incorporate full-season data (not just home games, as a team theoretically would bring “doctored footballs” with it on the road) I performed the following analysis:

The 2014 Patriots were just the 3rd team in the last 25 years to never have lost a fumble at home! The biggest difference between the Patriots and the other 2 teams who did it was that New England ran between 150 and 200 MORE plays this year than those teams did in the years they had zero home fumbles, making the Patriots stand alone in this unique statistic.

Based on the desire to incorporate full season data (not just home games, as a team theoretically bring “doctored footballs” with them on the road) I performed the following analysis:

I looked at the last 5 years of data (since 2010) and examined TOTAL FUMBLES in all games (as well as fumbles/game) but more importantly, TOTAL OFFENSIVE PLAYS RUN. Thus, we can to determine average PLAYS per FUMBLE, a much more valuable statistic. The results are displayed in the chart below. Keep in mind, this is for all games since 2010, regardless of indoors, outdoors, weather, site, etc. EVERYTHING.

One can CLEARLY SEE the Patriots, visually, are off the chart. There is no other team even close to being near to their rate of 187 offensive plays (passes+rushes+sacks) per fumble. The league average is 105 plays/fumble. Most teams are within 21 plays of that number.

I spoke with a data scientist who I know from work on the NFLproject.com website, and sent him the data. He said:

Based on the assumption that fumbles per play follow a normal distribution, you’d expect to see, according to random fluctuation, the results that the Patriots have gotten over this period, once in 16,233.77 instances”.

Which in layman’s terms means that this result only being a coincidence, is like winning a raffle where you have a 0.0000616 probability to win. Which in other words, it’s very unlikely that it’s a coincidence.

Lot more statistical analysis on his site.

The great thing about this...if this was the Cowboys and RP made that post instead of drobs...you would be ripping it to shreds and you know it.

If it was the Eagles...drobs would be doing the same going after guys like MDC.
