I love how the Raiders let the young players in their prime go and rebuild with older guys past the peak of their careers.

MJD has been pronounced dead in the fantasy world with this move. Oakland is a wasteland, but considering he played for the Jags he's probably used to it. But seriously what is Oakland doing???

They can't sign anybody at positions of need so they just sign anybody at random.

not so fast on MJD being dead because he went to OAK..... who ever the starting RB is in OAK they produce. Jennings played well and sucked in JAX and M.Bush played well and sucked in CHI... Look what Reese did a few years back. Just sayin

Not real sure what to think about MJD's fantasy value if the Raiders sign him. I will probably steer clear of any Raiders rb. I do give the Raiders credit they are trying to improve. To bad they couldn't have kept Jennings.

MJD was alright last year, just not the dominating force of his earlier years. Guy held out two seasons ago, lost big time, then got hurt and never will cash in now.

You give the raiders credit for this turd sandwich they are slapping together? Good teams dont build their team with multuple multi year contracts going to past their prime players. Its so focked up.

Oakland is going to be a high powered offense! Schaub, MJD, DMC, Murry, Moore, Jones, Holmes and possibility of D. Jax!

Yes I think they are trying ! I think they are signing decent players not great but there's not to many great players available. The Raiders are not 1or 2 years away from being a playoff team. I think it's 3 to 5 years from having a successful playoff run. Of course finding a franchise qb should be high on their wish list and having the #5 pick this year might be just what they need to find him. Wait a second I hate the Raiders ! Yeah they suck !

I don't get why so many people think that the Raiders signing all these free agents is a bad thing, for every other team it would be a terrible thing to do. But the Raiders have the cap room to sign free agents (even if they are old and past their prime) AND build threw the draft, and these star veterans give the rookies someone to learn from and some much needed leadership. Anyone that doesn't think the Raiders have greatly improved this offseason are crazy, and we still have the draft.

A lot of pressure on all teams in the draft but some teams more then others. The Raiders are one of those teams with the most pressure. It seems they have to hit on all their picks but especially at 5 & 36.

If their focus stays on best available player and not team needs I think they will do just fine. Not a fan of the Raiders but I always like seeing them do well, its good for the league too.

what?

if anything, MJD might be pronounced dead because of his declining skillset but it has nothing to do with playing in Oakland. Fantasy production comes from anywhere... doesn't matter how great an NFL team is. Jacksonville largely sucked and MJD had some very good years there. That WR in cleveland did pretty well too last year.

You don't think Oakland has been a fantasy wasteland the past few years? Have you even owned any Raiders? If so they probably got hurt or warmed your bench. That's all I'm saying.

Not true. If there is any position that oakland does produce fantasy relevant players its rb. Look no further than michael bush pre bears, rashad jennings, and the full back who i cant remember right now.

The last thing they needed was an old over used rb. Leadership is one thing, but how do you know mjd is a good leader? Ge may give terrible advise to young players.

They have mcfadden who is a veteran, along with a few other vet rbs. Why arent they good enough for leadership roles?

They should be resigning guys like their best defensive lineman who just left to the bears, not old beat the fock up rbs.

You really think MJD is an old beat the 'fock up' RB just 2 years after a 1,600 yard season?

Always been a big fan of MJD. He's about the only thing worth watching with the Jags, but he hit the wall hard after sitting out for his big money. Maybe he'll be rejuvenated back home. I don't know, but the Raiders sure seem to have reverted to their old ways of signing older vets over developing for the future. The Redskins used to do it too. It doesn't really work long term. I'm not a Raider fan, but I'd like to see them be better than they have been. MJD is ok as a #2. Maybe he and DMC can combine to produce. The bigger issues are the crazy moves they make at every other position. They let good young talent leave and bring in old guys with limited future. Dicey.

LOL. Remember when Zack Crockett did that thing with his hands/arms after ALL of those touchdowns he scored?

don't see why they let jennings go he avg 4.4 per carry and can catch the ball out of the back field . now they have two rbs and neither one of them avg better then 3.4 per carry . im not going to get all excited about nothing and i don't see a ff rb worth much on this raiders team ..they are going to zero each other out imo

true to the mantra of Al Davis this is a black hole signing. I wonder what they are thinking sometimes.

Understand your humor, but you can't laugh at his 2002 stats. Zach Crockett, the man who created the 'vulture' label.

2002- 40 rushing attempts 118 yds 8 touchdowns

They wanted Jennings, but not at the price the Giants paid him. By the way, keep an eye on him in Coughlin's offense. Haven't seen any details of MJD's contract anywhere, but the Raiders have signed all their vets to basically one year deals. McKenzie's been taking some heat, probably deserved, but he's in an impossible situation. They wanted Verner, but the big name vets are stoning the Raiders. Not related to fantasy, but that Verner deal was a steal for Tampa.

Not sure what happened with Veldheer and Houston. There was some bad blood there, Veldheer's price tag was a little high, but the Raiders did offer up $8 mill per year. His agent demanded $10 mill from the get-go, the team countered with $6 mill, and the talks broke down from there. There was talk they wanted to play Houston out of position, according to him, so he took his six sacks to Chicago. I agree, you've got to sign your own talented young players to build a foundation. But in these cases it wasn't possible. McKenzie went out and signed who he could, bringing in vets to lead by example and fill holes. I'm anxious to see what they do in the draft, especially at #5. I don't see them going QB.

The RB to watch in that system is Murray. He's 6-3 220 with a 4.33 40 time and is a physical beast. They wanted Jennings to set the plate for him this year, not wishing to put pressure on the kid out of the gate. Jennings left so they re-signed DMAC to a low risk high reward deal. I see MJD as insurance, nothing more. It'll be a committee, until Murray seizes the job or busts out. They will put up fantasy points at RB, but it will come from two or three players in 2014.

I mean, what the f*ck are we even talking about here? For a team that was on death row after the JaCarcass Russell pick it'd be a miracle for them to even be relevant. Seems a little strange to be talking about my own team in any context of importance on this board lol...

agreed. and he was coming back from what appeared to be a rather serious injury.

Honestly, I was surprised he was as productive last year as he was.

if he can improve his health, he could be productive. the scary thing is the nature of that injury (lis franc)

anyhow, if he returns to form, in theory, a good coordinator can work two pass catching RB's into the mix (much in the way the pats used two TE's) to create mismatches in coverage.

I dont know if the raiders have that type of coordinator in there, but if I were in charge there, I'd be looking at showing a lot of 2 back sets for the Offense there.

just food for thought.

3 back sets once they acquire chris johnson :ninja:

honestly, Desean would be the better signing. a true #1 WR who can stretch a Defense. then the D couldnt key on the run or short passing game. Teams could double cover him, but then DMC and MJD would be open all day long.

Might not be a bad way to go.

Just out of curiosity, how are MJD's blitz pickup skills? any Jax Homers have any insight?

Just about perfect. Saw this tweeted the other day, he's played 30 straight games with 190 blocks without allowing a QB pressure.

Or just go watch the youtube video of him destroying Shawn Merriman. Can't link it from work........

Among the best in the game.

DMac can't stay on the field and they've never fully trusted him in short yardage or GL situations. That's MJD's bread & butter, though some would argue he might cut back on the bread & butter a bit.

I think he can have solid ff potential and help the team. Whether he helps enough to warrant the signing remains to be seen.
