Jeremy Maclin

Recommended Posts

With the obvious news of Desean Jackson getting cut, I was wondering what everybody thought of Jeremy Maclin's upside for next year. Assuming he comes back 100%, is he the clear cut #1 guy or did Riley Cooper show enough to be worthy of an argument? What kind of numbers would you expect from him? And what round would you try to draft him?

My take, I feel like he should be the #1 guy there. He's always put up pretty solid stats and now with this Chip Kelly offense rolling the way it is, I feel like he could be in for a big year. Maybe something like 70 catches 1100 yards 9 tds seems reasonable to me. As far as what round, I don't do snake drafts anymore (auction here). But I was curious where people thought to take him at.

I dont think neither cooper nor maclin will be the true wr1 in the offense. Foles likes to spread the ball around. I think both will be wr1s fantasy wise this year, but as far as the official number 1 i dont think there will be much of a distinction. I like maclins athletic ability but cooper is a nice big target that you want your top wr to be.

70 catches sounds a little low if he plays all year. When was the last time that happened though?

Maclin is far superior talent wise to Riley Cooper. It just depends if Maclin can come back fully healthy or not. If he does, I think he will be the #1 target in the offense.

Agreed with Stew. Cooper isn't a #1 FBN, but he is a sizable RZ target and the team obviously likes him so he's going to be involved. I'm also thinking Ertz takes some RZ looks this year in an expanded role. If you add up the total team's TE production from last season it's good not elite.

The bulk of the TE looks and Ertz is a solid starter at about Martellus Bennett's level last season. That combined with more attention to the position in the Offense and he's a top 3-6.

Dude hasn't played a full season since 2010. Obviously he's in a good situation but is he at all reliable?

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking that Sproles will play more like a WR in that offense with some change-of-pace runs thrown in. Ertz and Cooper will be counted on to block for designed McCoy runs, but along with Maclin, that's a lot of weapons to account for in the passing game and may open up running lanes anyways. Any or all of them have the potential for 10+ TDs, but I don't see a slam dunk #1 there. McCoy (and Foles) are the Eagles to own and I'd almost rather have Sproles than Maclin.

if maclin of course can stay on the field . i think he can have 70 plus rec i thought that about him in this offense last season before he was hurt .

I agree he isnt a true number one as i never said he was. I said in the eagle offense neither will be the clear cut wr1 on the team. I also said he has the size you want from a wr1. He isnt quite athletic enough or fast enough to be that dominant wr who carries a team. I am excited to see the eagles offense this year and how chipper can integrate all of the talent he has.

That statement makes it seems like Maclin hasn't played much since 2010. Maclin played 15 games in 2012. He played 13 games in 2012. He tore his ACL in late July of last year. That gives him over 13 months recovery time. He expects to be a go from day 1 of training camp. Obviously anyone who is coming off an ACL injury is a risk, especially a guy with a history of knee problems. But as long as he is on the field, I think he will be pretty reliable.

I would say Maclin is in a pretty good situation to come back at close to full strength next year. Even 75-80% of Maclin is better than Riley Cooper regardless. Maclin is going to be very motivated on a one year deal.

If maclin is so good then why is his best stat line 70 Rec, 864 Yds, 13.4 Avg, 10 Td? He is a solid WR that is going to play in a high tempo offense, effin great. I just don't get why Cooper is down played so much but Maclin gets put onto a pedestal when he hasn't proven anything. And the statement that implies he hasn't played much is also taking into consideration the amount of games he has played hurt. Trying to portray Maclin in a more durable manner is like doing the same with Hakeem Nicks. Sure he was on the field a lot last year, but that didn't mean he was always playing at 100%.

Actually, it's 964 yards.

Physically, Maclin is more talented than Cooper. His QB didn't help him in the production department (Vick).

Cooper isn't very talented, but he's a great fit for the Chip Kelly offense, and Foles made good use of him.

More talented i will give you, but this sense that he is some super human wr compared to cooper is ridiculous.

Cooper is just not a very good WR in my opinion. I'm not really saying Maclin is some superstar WR. I'm saying Riley Cooper is not anything great. That's where the disparity lies in my opinion. I think the Eagles probably overpaid for Cooper's career year. He creates absolutely ZERO separation from defensive backs. All he has going for him is his size in my opinion (and he is also a good blocker which doesn't really help anyone fantasy wise).

I just think last year was the perfect storm for Cooper. Maclin goes down which afforded Cooper playing time. He was then a huge beneficiary of having Desean Jackson opposite him (and having Shady McCoy in the backfield among others). He drew man coverage (usually from the other team's 2nd or 3rd best CB) with no safety help over the top.

Without Jackson this season, he will not be afforded that luxury. Maclin will be back this season as the WR1 but he is not near the speed/deep threat that DJax was. I also think he will have to compete more for looks with guys like Ertz and Sproles who will be a big part of the passing game in my opinion. I also think the Eagles will likely draft a WR in the 1st or 2nd round this year.

I was really curious when Eagle signed both Cooper and Maclin. The consensus seemed to be that they would get Maclin contract locked first. But they actually get Cooper's contract done first. They probably just got ready to cut D Jackson.

I like both Cooper and Maclin, their skills compensate each other well. Both of them will be great WR2 for your fantasy team with WR1 potential. I doubt Eagle will be spending top picks in WRs, probably lower picks.

i think they'll go wr 2nd round due to Maclin's injury history. If he goes down and there's a decent shot of that having, they're kind of screwed.

This is supposed to be a deep WR draft, so they probably could get a good one in the 3rd or 4th.

Or, maybe trade and target Benjamin in the late 1st/early 2nd?

I agree. With Djack gone the Eagles dont have a true number 1 . and i do like Maclin more then Cooper he has more upside imo .
