What's the nicest/coolest/most famous golf course you've played?

Recommended Posts

No carts. We walked all the holes but had Caddys. You weren't allowed to take a golf cart though they were willing to make an exception for my BIL cause of his cancer but he didn't want them to or else we might not get invited back. I felt bad for him cause I could tell he was in a lot of pain but it couldn't been a once in a lifetime opportunity so he played through the pain.

And Ricky drove. My nephew was in passenger seat. Apparently it wasn't at the masters. It was when they went to play golf with him. Sis posted it during the masters and I mistook it as him riding with him.

Uh huh.

Never played a real famous course, but the MA guys may have heard of Eastward Ho. Its a private course in Chatham on the Cape right on Pleasant Bay and its amazingly beautiful and difficult. Crazy elevation changes and undulation and the wind is always blowing hard. Got invited to play that last summer and was a real treat.

Someday I will do some trips to Myrtle or go west to Bandon Dunes... Once my kids get a little older.

Black Bear? In Louisiana? Where? Are you thinking of Grand Bear in Mississippi? One of the casinos courses?

Yeah it's in Louisiana. Delhi is the name of the town that it's in I believe. Pretty sure I've talked to you about it before. It's one of the courses on the Louisiana Golf Trail I think it's called.

My brother enjoys it and is pretty good (member of the Olympic Club).

No kidding? Wow - that would be awesome.. I wish he USGA would hurry up and return there, been way too long... Have you gotten to play it quite a bit with him?

I still wanna add Pebble Beach, St Andrews and Augusta. Of course, the last one is nearly impossible for a guy like me.

How did you get onto Bethpage? I mean, did somebody have to get there early and wait in the car or something like that?

I've never played at it but I hear the golf courses at Hilton head are really nice too

Harbour Town in the early 90's. Absolutely beautiful course. I was in the Navy at the time, stationed in Beaufort/Parris Island. The round of golf was a going away gift from our ER doctor and radiologist. I was getting ready to be stationed over seas in Italy. Was a great gift, and a stunning course.

Eta: after the round, we ate in the historic lighthouse you see on the 18th hole.

Extremely nice thing they did. I shot terribly. The course was tight for me, and long. I shot around 110  . Awful and great all in one.

Yeah. One of my friends went there at about 7 the night before and hung out in his van until the rest of us got there. We all had to be there before the crack of dawn when the starter came out to give tickets for a tee time.

It's sorta crazy how hard that course is compared to The Plantation course for example.

The PGA has held events at both, but the skills required to play well at Bethpage are in another stratosphere. It's way more frustrating than fun.

You actually don't have to do the sleep in your car, ass crack of dawn thing. You can buts it's more urban legend that you have to do that. You can go out in the afternoon pretty easily.

No but I did get to play Augusta National with my BIL, his friend (who set it up) that is a manager for music singers and got a round thrown in on a deal he made, his friends dad, and a club member (who apparently I can't name or else we won't get another invite there). I can tell you now I didn't appreciate it as much as I should since I'm not an avid golfer. My nephew who is an avid golfer was dying to go but couldn't so my BIL took me. He has also played golf with Tiger Woods, another golfer on the PGA tour that I can't remember the name of, and Rickie Fowler. During the masters my nephew apparently got to ride with Rickie Fowler on his golf cart during it somehow. He's my nephews favorite golfer so he was pretty stoked

Augusta is a sh!thole, always hot and humid. Nice landscaping doesn't make it any more bearable.
