I posted here a few months ago about how I had a FB account for about 15 mins and deleted it. They immediately recommended friends from my place of employment that they should have had no knowledge of. Pretty scary.

If you want to see what Google is tracking check out this link:

https://myactivity.google.com/myactivity (must be logged in to Google on your phone or computer)

Web searches (even if you deleted history on chrome), location history, apps used, phone calls and texts, voice recordings, YouTube history, etc.

Kind of crazy how much data they have stored.

Given the topic of the thread, what, if any, measures do you guys take to maintain some anonymity while online?

-Duckduckgo or some other browser

-Ad/tracker blockers

-Separate browsers for certain activities (financial, regular web browsing, porn, etc)

-VPN

-other

They have to come up with a simple way that you can clear everything. This is where government regulation is necessary. All this yelling about our first and second amendments and meanwhile our fourth is being trashed by everyone. At least when the government does it its to protect us from the savage islamists that wish is harm. Google does it just for more and more money. They can make plenty w/o this much intrusiveness.

Skynet was Terminator. Supermike quoted it with a Starship Troopers line. Why? :dunno:

Fourth amendment does not apply to private corporations

True. It's the spirit of it though. These tech companies have become de-facto governments.

Does FB gather data when users aren't logged in?

I can see how Google is able to amass everything because it's at least synced with and in some ways is itself the overarching platform for everything.

The thread we had on here a while back about people merely talking about things in person-person conversation and then having advertisements directed at them...I'm not sure how many people questioned it, but what's shared in the OP article completely backs that up.

I was able to notice it in a 'without a doubt' manner. Talking about getting my cat a cat bed one morning. Never searched for cat beds before. My phone was merely in my hand at the time, it was 'off' though not powered off. 45 mins later I'm seeing cat bed ads while using Chrome. Don't even have an Amazon Echo, etc.

Not saying you are wrong but the devil's advocate argument is that we choose to use these products

That's my theory of where this world is headed

I was half kidding half serious when I made that comment. A Terminator situation is looking more and more like a possibility each year.

I downloaded my fb data and maybe I did something wrong. It did NOT have all my stuff there. For instance. My messenger conversations. I generally delete those once in a while. And all FB has is those conversations you have yet to delete. Same with everything on FB. Yes, it had every picture I ever posted...BFD..I could see that already. I did ee the advertisers or whatever that have my info and I don't care too much about that. I don't use FB all that much so I don't have a lot of info there. It did and does have almost every phone contact I ever had. People I haven't spoken to in ages.

Now the google stuff I am VERY interested in and I am downloading my archives now. Will be interested to see what that holds.

Trust me Facebook has much more on you than what is showing up on your data report.

Out of curiosity because I've never downloaded a FB report, does it include all the third party websites you have linked to your Facebook account and how you interact with them?

We all work for Google - if Google no longer listed you company, products, or services in search results, youre out of business.

Think about that... Google delistd a company and *poof* its gone. No website visitors No phones or emails coming in.

That alone is power.
