Man, I definitely want to drink with Parrot before I die. More often than not, we are vibing on the same groove.

Came into here to say:

"It may just be my 'era' and my recollection, but to me, the one Soundtrack (if there could be only one) that really made soundtracks relevant was "VisionQuest". I mean, just a great selection of artists - and not just old stuff or scored for that movie kind of stuff - som of the hottest artists of the time mixed in with a combination of original score, old school, etc.

Again, for me, what stands out is: You can't count movies like "Grease", "Dirty Dancing" "Purple Rain" "Staying Alive" - Because they are basically (if not literally)-musicals. VisionQuest wasn't. The songs were, however, an integral part of advancing the storyline and setting the mood/vibe.

Again, you can argue which one stands out - created the genre, but even Top Gun came out a year later - and a lot of that music was specially scored just for the movie.

Whatever you choose - The mid-80's seemed to definitely set the bar for soundtracks in movies - and then, move to Television. Remember when Miami Vice was SO cutting edge because it was 'part MTV?'. There's a lot of popular TV out now that try (to varying degrees of success or failure) to integrate popular music into their storylines. - You didn't see that prior to then.

It was mentioned. Not by me, but I have it in the CD player in my truck right now, and it's been there for months. Any Cameron Crowe flick will have a great ST. Same with Tarantino. Same with Scorsese. Same with John Hughes.

Jerry McGuire, Say Anything, Vanilla Sky, Singles, Elizabethtown. All tremendous.
